Actually it was a survey done by The Hockey News, not ESPN and I would guess its mostly Canadian players given its The Hockey News. I tried to do a quick Google search for it but can't find the specific survey anymore from 2007, but there where several blogs talking about the results of the survey how Edmonton and Buffalo where the cities players would least like being traded to because of the location considerations (eg..small city, no nightlife). LOL and the Sabres are actually my favorite team :(

Personally having spoken to NHLers, they all seem to like to play for the Panthers or Lighting (no income tax in the state of Florida, amazing nightlife, nice weather and hot girls) or the Kings or the Rangers (big cities, lots of entertainment and night life options). If you where making millions in your 20s, wouldn't you want to live in a warm city like Miami near the beach :D

I'm sure as some players get older and haven't won a cup, playing on a contender moves up the list as a priority. Family considerations come into play to as players get older as to where they would like to live and settle their family.

You'd think it'd be the other way around especially for guys in their 20's. Getting stuck in a stinker of a only serves to stagnate one's stock instead of upping it. (which a stronger team would probably hold more chance to up ones stock).

Yup, might be time to relocate them, but not to Hamilton. I'd like to see them back in Winnipeg but if not Winnipeg, maybe Vegas or Quebec City or Portland.

It would be awesome to see another team in the PNW - Portland, or Seattle/Everett... or both (Nashville? Atlanta?? Puh-leeeeeze!). Both are huge for their WHL teams; hockey is already solidly embedded in those communities. Be nice to have a rival for the 'nucks within easy driving distance!

I agree Seattle would be ideal, but the only problem is there is no NHL ready facility. The Key Arena can fit in an ice surface but one end of the arena would be missing a whole bunch of seats in the lower bowl and the Arena also needs a massive infrastructure upgrade, one of the reasons the Sonics left.

Portland already has a NHL ready arena in the Rose Garden, which is owned by Paul Allen (owner of the Trailblazers and Seahawks), who has expressed interest in an NHL team the last time the NHL expanded, but who knows now.

I think if you saw a team come into Portland, it would be successful enough that Seattle would be pretty quick to build a suitable arena to get a team there, too.

What the hell ? When Key Arena was re-built, the sonics demanded to have it built the way it is, so that it will only be a professional basketball type of facility - no nhl teams. They did not want to share. Funny how they claim that it's one of the reasons they left.
