not to be a hater but i think the canucks are going to lose tmrw game, albeit a close one. 3-2 flames* lol

FLAMES' PHANEUF DENIES MAKING TRADE REQUEST

It appears the rumours of Dion Phaneuf's trade request have been greatly exaggerated.

When the Calgary Flames' blueliner was asked about the rumour by reporters after practice on Friday, Phaneuf made his feelings perfectly clear.

"I have never asked for a trade and I'm very happy here," Phaneuf told reporters. "That hasn't even crossed my mind so for you to be asking me these questions today, it's a huge surprise."

Phaneuf has struggled this season with just 18 points in 43 games and is now dealing with the disappointment of being left off Canada's Olympic team last week. Earlier in the season, Phaneuf and head coach Brent Sutter reportedly had a heated argument that was overheard by the media, leading to speculation the defenceman wanted out.

When Phaneuf was told the rumour was found on a blog with no quotes from him, the Edmonton native downplayed the credibility of the report.

''Those are people sitting behind a computer and writing what they'd like to see happen with our team,'' Phaneuf added. ''Each and everyone has their opinion and I respect that but with regards to any talk of (a trade request), this is the first I've heard of it.''

Flames' general manager Darryl Sutter admitted there is a lot of interest in his defence corps from other teams but he has no plans to move Phaneuf.

''We get calls about our defencemen,'' Sutter told ESPN.com on Thursday. ''Teams think that we have seven or eight guys that are playing good and they think you have one available. But there isn't one [available].''

As for the complaints Sutter hears about Phaneuf's play, his response is a compelling one.

"I say, 'Take him out of the lineup and see how much you like it,'" Sutter told ESPN.com.

The report also says that Fleury predicts that the Flames will lose in the first round of the playoffs for the second year in a row. Fleury also reportedly wrote that Calgary should "trade Robyn Regehr and finally get someone for Iggy to play with."

Francis suggested in his story that by ripping the team, Fleury may have damaged or delayed opportunities that he might have had of some day working for the club, and eventually of having his number retired by the team.

Francis was able to reach Fleury by phone to ask about his comments, to which Fleury replied, "My intention wasn't to hurt anybody -- I have an opinion like everybody else."

"Do I feel the same way today? Maybe not. Thing is, why should I get heat? I have nothing to do with hockey anymore," Fleury reportedly told Francis.

When reached by Francis, Conroy reportedly responded, "I don't want to rip Theo because I like him. I'm a little disappointed, but he has the right to say what he thinks. I just wish he made it so we could see how many goals he'd have scored on the third or fourth line."

Ouch. Theo did have a good preseason and I was shocked when they cut him. I think he deserved a shot at the reg. season but I guess team politics can get in the way sometimes.

^OUCH...Conroy with the last comment about being on the 3rd or 4th line basically was a stab in the back.

i think they've missed the last few games. it would be nice to see them taunt the flames.
