FYI for those heading to Canuck's games.

If you guys buy 50/50 tickets, they will no longer be excepting $100 dollar bills. At tonight's game there were more than 6 fake $100 bills counted. The money goes to help sick children. I nod my head in shame.

AzNightmare 01-22-2010 12:00 AM

I wonder how did that happen...
Don't just about everywhere have UV money scanners, especially places that accept $100 bills??

Tapioca 01-22-2010 12:08 AM

The thought of trading Luongo is preposterous. It took the management over 10 years to re-aquire a legitimate number 1 goalie since Jeff Brown banged McLean's wife. Sure, it takes more than a goaltender to win, but you need a guy who's capable of making the big save and I think Luongo still has that capability in spite of last year's letdown. IMHO, Luongo has been playing merely average lately because he simply has had too much playing time.

So, when I was driving out to play my weekly game of shiny tonight, I heard all of this talk about the Canucks possibly acquiring Backes from the Blues. Any thoughts?

Grandmaster TSE 01-22-2010 12:18 AM

backes is a young player that will benefit many teams
but it all depends on what we have to give up for him

The 50/50 workers just take bills for tickets. It is done at gates in the seats in the concourse etc. No receipt or anything. The transactions are quick so the 50.50 people don't really look hard I guess.

Well Gillis and Gilman were in Montreal to check the Blues out when they were there last night and Davidson was in Manitoba checking out Cory Schneider. I also heard (purely rumour) but Backes who was listed as having an upper body injury was ready to go tonight was was told to sit out the game. Maybe a trade is in the works?

If Backes comes to the Canucks, willl Burrows and Kesler still think Kelly's a great gal??

Harvey Specter 01-22-2010 01:21 AM

What happen to the trade rumors with Atl?

I am as big a Canucks fan as anyone, I go to a lot of games and I do hope we get out of the 2nd round this year. I am just not convinced that Luongo is the missing piece or that he should be Captain.

I'm one of those that would rather have an elite scorer than an elite goaltender or defenseman, but trading for other than for OV, Crosby or maybe Malkin would be trading down IMO; not up. And those guys aren't going anywhere.

Trading for people of equal value the likes Gaborik, Thornton or Kovalchuk is a coin toss whether we're better with, or without.

*note: by value I mean, hockey value; not dollar value.

Luongo isnt going anywhere. Any SC champion has had a stud netminder...with Detroit maybe being the exception with Nicklas Lidstrom on the backend.

We have that legit #1 centerman in Henrik with his surprise season. Our second line is one of the fastest with a Selke nominee centering it.
Our bottom 6 is our bottom 6. Next season we can expect it to be manned by Hodgson Schroeder Shirokov etc if they are not playing in the top 6 otherwise.

Our team isn't missing too much in that we need to sell Lu. With an improved backend (say we sign Niedermayer), we are contenders.

I agree with the captaincy of Lu though:thumbsup:. Give it to Kesler!!

Judging from the pics, she looks like a nice girl. Didn't look like sloppy seconds.

SO just a question for the "trade Luongo" bandwagon: who do you replace him with... THAT'S AVAILABLE?

quasi 01-22-2010 07:13 AM

Luongo just signed his huge extension with a no trade and isn't getting traded unless he asks to be traded. [/end trade talks]

Hondaracer 01-22-2010 07:35 AM

Let's trade Luongo for horcoff, horcoff makes a tiny little bit less but he'll get us to a cup guaranteed.

We should trade lu, give it up already its not going to happen
yes he hasn't been playing the best this past bit but we are
Still winning and when he's hot he's hot. He will not be

Greenstoner 01-22-2010 08:19 AM

enough with the Lu trade comments, he is not going anywhere. We wont be sitting on 62pts right now. You should look back the last 2 weeks as example, how many times he made the timing save to kept us in the game, some of his saves leads us to win the game in OT.

He was kinda shaky in the SO against Calgary but how many penality shots were scored on him ???

Tim Budong 01-22-2010 09:14 AM

fuck ppl who say trade luu should really shut the fuck up. As i said day in and day out, there are ignorant FUCKTARDS in this thread who dont give a shit about anything BUT the canucks.

there are FUCKTARDS in here who think by trading away your captain/player/defensemen for a bag of pucks is the BEST FUCKING DEAL IN THE WORLD...

look around the league, theres no goalie available to trade for. KipperSOFT isnt going anywhere, neither is Tim Thomas, Ryan Miller, Broduer, All whom are just as CAPABLE to win the holy grail.

Do people not understand that by bringing in Ilya Kovalchuk means we trade away the already "decent" group of kids we have for merely a RENTAL player. Theres no confirmation to this, but I did read something from the DUMBEST HOCKEY WRITER who treats his webpage as a bathroom wall say something correct. Atlanta WILL NOT trade full player rights of Ilya Kovalchuk away, ie: RENTAL

Scoring goals doesnt mean shit if the star forward that comes in cannot accept his role on the Vancouver Canucks. I hope some of the people here have realized that almost all the forwards we carry, especially those in the top6 is VERY CAPABLE of playing a two way game thats RESPONSIBLE. PLEASE tell me that someone like Big Joe Thornton can be this man. HELL NO

This blueline we have is DEEP on paper, but it fails right now because even the reserves are injured.

If I were Mike Gillis, I would analyze the situation we have carefully and bring in someone that AV and the scouts agree that can play the style AV has set out for this team. A somewhat two way gritty offensive game that WORKS HARD to score goals.

to close, LUONGO is here to stay. Demitra isnt going anywhere. Gaborik signed a contract in NYR, hes not coming. Joe Thornton doesnt solve anything. Only hard work and effort is what makes the canucks so special as they are now. The team is ONE and it takes alot of time to really build a group of guys that click.

Soundy 01-22-2010 09:42 AM

^I wish I could click Thanks about a dozen times.

This is the thing that irks me the most about fans' "trade demands" - they either ignore, or are too thick to realize, that IT TAKES TWO TO MAKE A TRADE. You want to trade your deadweight for a bonafide sniper? Great, good idea... now you have to find a GM who's willing to give away his sniper for some bonafide deadweight. On top of that, you now have to do it all within the salary cap as well. So no, you're not going to just snap your fingers and get Crosby and Malkin in a package by sending back Jannick Hansen, unless Mike Keenan magically becomes the GM in Pittsburgh.

hotjoint 01-22-2010 09:47 AM

great game last night, Auld giving up the puck to burrows fo rthe open net was the shit :lol

rsx 01-22-2010 09:55 AM

Get rid of Demitra for D and call up Grabner (is that guy back?)

Failed because:

Dude relax. Your outrage is so disproportionate considering it was only ONE guy (RTS), and not some sort of minority anti-Luongo movement.

edit:

What I mean to say is, don't get so worked up over "one" guy that everyone has already disagreed with and whose opinions has no following whatsoever.

There is no question in my mind that the Atlanta Thrashers are going to trade Ilya Kovalchuk and I believe that the sweepstakes for the star sniper is unofficially on.

That being said, Thrashers' general manager Don Waddell is not in a position that he can go out and make a deal for future considerations such as the Toronto Maple Leafs pick that belongs to the Boston Bruins.

He will not be able to go back and sell that idea to his market right now. He won't be able to sell the idea of a bunch of kids from the Los Angeles Kings like Thomas Hickey and Colten Teubert as the return that he gets on Kovalchuk. If he is going to make a move, it is going to have to be for bigger name players.

The Calgary Flames are a team that may, and I stress MAY, be interested, however if they are they are going to have to talk about some of the “big boys” like Dion Phaneuf amongst others to be included.

If it's not Phaneuf then there is a good chance that the Chicago Blackhawks will be interested. I'm not saying that talks have been made, but I am saying that guys like Patrick Sharp or Cam Barker or David Bolland will be in the mix. Legitimate, bonafide NHL players are what Waddell is looking for in return and he is looking for a couple of them.

I think that at the end of the day, both Chicago and Calgary will be in that group to pursue Kovalchuk and pursue him hard.
Imagine the article was right - Sharp/Barker for Kovalchuk...

Kovalchuk, Toews, Kane
Ladd, Bolland, Hossa

Backend,

Keith, Seabrook
Campbell, Sopel
Barker, Hjalmarsson

Scary

although i don't agree with the fail lol, noir is right. i think at least 90% of canuck fans are retarded, if you get worked up over each stupid comment you will have a stroke soon. just remember that most canuck fans are just canuck fans, and not hockey fans. and stay away from cdc forums or you will smash your head through the monitor.
