Me too. I don't understand why some people rag on him. Like Ovechkin, Crosby has lived up to all the hype and he's a great role model. Gives of himself without question and is full of integrity.

Not too many modern day athletes are honourable. He's one of the best - both on and off the ice. It's just amazing he's come into the league at the same time as Ovechkin.

Ovechkin is the lone player with 40-plus goals in every season since the 2004-05 lockout. Ilya Kovalchuk of the New Jersey Devils (31 goals) is the only player with a chance to match that streak.

Crosby is just a -->

No he's not. The problem with Crosby though is every NHL panel touted Crosby as the 2nd coming of Gretzky. He's not. Still a great player though, just not a today's version of Gretzky.

What's working to Ovechkin's favour is his Russian clout; That they're all finesse and no physicality. All skill but no heart. That once he signs his big contract he'll play no better than your 2nd and 3rd liner.

Ovechkin has signed a huge contract... 124 million to be exact
and hes still playing like hes the best in the league.

Listen, I'm not trying to take anything away from Ovechkin, he's an electrifying player. So was Bure.

Overall, Crosby is superior. When Bure was the "It" player of the league, the likes of, let's say, Sakic etc. were "overlooked" by most due to the flashiness, or electrifying nature of Bure's game.

End result? Sakic is one of the most regarded players of all time. Bure? Still talked about, but certainly not in the same regard.

Not trying to take anything away from either Russian, simply saying for my money, I'd take a player of Crosby's ilk. ANY DAY.

And I've said before, people who think Crosby is a whiner... let's see any human's behaviour after having a target on their back since they were 12. In contact sports, bigger, stronger kids are trying to hurt you if you're an impact player from a very young age. You'll become naturally defensive.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Are you suggesting that Ovechkin is proving the traditional view of Russians wrong because he's plays with heart, hits hard and signed a big contract and still puts up the numbers?

HonestTea 02-07-2010 07:47 PM

As much as I like Ovechkin. If I was building a team around one of them, I'd choose Crosby over Ovechkin. I just see more leadership abilities with Crosby then with Ovechkin but I could be wrong with this one since I don't exactly have personal relationships with either of them. Crosby's a great role model as well, however some may portray that as "boring" since he doesn't live the flashy lifestyle.

As a entertainment factor, Ovechkin hands down. Hes still my favorite NHL player and I like him a lot more then Crosby. The only time I'd cheer against Ovechkin is probably during the 2010 Winter Olympics. :)

So what you are saying with this is Crosby is the only one that had that target when he was younger? What about Ovechkin? did he suck when he was younger?

Don't get me wrong, Crosby is a very talented player but I will pick Ovechkin over him any day... atleast Ovechkin will fight fair and drop the gloves..(I saw that he was going to fight a goon from the other team but his teammate jumped in and fought for him instead)... but crosby jumps and punches the guy before the faceoff lol....

Yes, I know you will say that Crosby is not a fighter bla bla.. but atleast do not jump the guy during the faceoff lol..

Of course, we all want Canada to win gold in men's hockey.

But IF we didn't win, who would you want to lose to?

I bet a majority of us will say Russia. :)

Is there a way to check how many points the Sedins have during home and away games?

Majority of their points are probably on home ice which is not a good thing

Expresso 02-08-2010 10:06 AM

Looks like Gainey is stepping down in MTL. Have this feeling if he didn't they would have just fired him.

I think Gainey did the right thing by stepping down, the habs have been so up and down this season. One thing for sure, he never really settled the Price/Halak situation.

at the same time, very questionable moves over the past few years that lead to the team this year.

i honestly dont want to be too much of a nazi today, but this vid..wow..
i failed you becuz, Ovechkin does the same thing when he has a shitty game. Jarome Iginla does the sme thing, do you see anyone complaining? yes Crosby here pulled a cheap shot, but Ovechkin has some similar stuff in the past. Kneeing Gonchar last year? some questionable hits this season, all becuz either his team was down, or he was having a shitty game

Crosby is probably the better role model/captan material at this point in the two superpower's career. Go watch that Sidney Crosby Ovechkin special on TSN/CTV/SNET. Its unbiased and it really stays true to the beliefs of both players

+1. Maybe someone now can ship out Halak or Price, or figure something out there.

Grandmaster TSE 02-08-2010 11:19 AM

ship out price, halak can stay
