Another issue that has been brought up is the idea to switch to no touch icing.

Back to the original topic, TSN has some great articles on this incident and the whole headshot thing. I didn't know, but Ovy's hit in the Olympics left Jagr with a concussion, much like the Mitchell hit on Towes.

Personally, I don't like the Richard's/Cooke hit as they took advantage of a player who was left vulnerable as the play developed, and players on the ice/bench need to do more to communicate so that they know guys are coming from the blind side.

a electrictian for GM Place was standing by the netting when crosby scored he tossed them up in the air with one hitting the netting and falling down past the glass into the stands. The "person" said everyone was going crazy and never noticed and he picked it up and put it under his jacket.

He's didn't mean this to get out of hand this bad he just wants to give it back but it now worried of course.

I had no problem with the Ovechkin hit or the Mitchell hit. I didn't like the Cooke hit at all. The Richards hit, I'm on the fence with.

Regardless of what it is, the GMs will once again take a "serious" look into headshots
as I stated above

The Cooke hit was very similar if not identical to the Richards hit, the only difference was Booth had the puck, and Savard didnt.

The Cooke/Savard hit is exactly the same as the Richards/Booth hit. And the NHL completely fucked up by not suspending Richards for it. In both instances they were both headhunting and the league has to change the rules where they have to ban that kinda thing and have stronger suspensions.

imo the proper way to deal with head shots is to take past transgressions into consideration

ie. that cooke hit should be an automatic 20 games because he has a history

if a player like a hordichuck etc. did it, 5 games first off, then 20 afterwards

sometimes it is merely a reaction and good clean players can get caught doign a headshot, but players with a past history of dirty hits should be given no leeway

The Cooke hit was not the same as Richards hit.

Booth was admiring his pass when he got decked by Richards. Savard had already shot the puck on net when he got hit by Cooke. I think Cooke will be made an example of, especially since the GM's are meeting at this time about head shots. Actually, I don't know what will happen, Colin Campbell has no set criteria it seems.

Ryan Kesler has been on quite a roll of late.

At the recent Olympics, he scored in the men's hockey final and emerged with a silver medal as part of an impressive young U.S. team. Since returning to the Vancouver Canucks, he has three goals in four games -- with two of those goals coming in Detroit near where he grew up in Livonia.

And now the 25-year-old can celebrate being the cover athlete for the NHL 2K11 video game, following in the footsteps of Alexander Ovechkin, Rick Nash, Jason Spezza, Joe Thornton, Marty Turco, Martin St. Louis, Jeremy Roenick, Chris Drury and Brendan Shanahan.

Kesler calls it the "icing on the cake" after his Olympic experience.

"Everything just keeps getting better for me," he told The Canadian Press. "I'm very excited."

Kesler admits the only way he thought he'd ever be on a video game box was "if I put my own picture on there."

"It's a dream come true for me. ... I grew up playing and to be on the cover of 2K is unbelievable," he said.

Once known for his defensive skills -- he was a finalist last year for the Selke Trophy -- Kesler is enjoying a career year on offence with 19 goals and 40 assists in 65 games this season.

"I expected to maybe crash after the Olympics a little bit," he said. "Playing in front of my friends and family the first couple of games helped with that. I'm still, I think, on that Olympic high. I've been feeling good out there, I've been skating and using my strengths."

Kesler was involved with the game last year, taking part in an outdoor Las Vegas motion capture session with Ovechkin, who was the face of NHL 2K10.

"Obviously he's the best of the best," Kesler said of the Washington Capitals sniper.

But the Canucks forward takes pride in his game.

"I'm not a flashy scorer like Ovechkin by any means but I think I'm exciting in my own right," he said. "I think my performance in the Olympics is why 2K picked me to be on the cover."

That was confirmed by 2K Sports, which is engaged in an annual battle with EA Sports' NHL title. The EA game is made in Burnaby, B.C.

"Ryan is one of the most talented and exciting players to watch in the NHL today and his popularity has grown exponentially since the recent success of Team USA at the Olympics," Greg Thomas, senior vice-president of sports development for 2K, said in a statement.

Kesler is also a keen gamer, playing everything from sports titles to first-person shooters. But there has been little time to settle down in front of a console recently.

As the cover boy for this year's game, available this fall for the Nintendo Wii, Kesler jokingly says he wouldn't mind having his player attributes bumped up a little bit.

"Usually they're true to form, they're very accurate -- their attributes," he said. "I expect no special treatment this time."

Kesler probably won't need any. He was a plus-8 last season, when he had 26 goals and 33 assists in 82 games. He won 54 per cent of his faceoffs and ranked seventh among league forwards with 70 blocked shots.

6. Worried that Pierre McGuire will drug Paul Schaffer and replace him on stage, leading to uncomfortable leering during segment taping.

5. He doesn't believe a Letterman appearance is a way for the NHL to capitalize on the Olympic momentum in a smart, hip way, and without selling out by fundamentally changing the game for casual fans. He would be very, very wrong, of course.

4. He , or Reebok, found the content to be offensive. Or, after seeing what the New York Rangers had to do with Madonna in their last appearance on Letterman, was worried he'd have to be a human rickshaw for Lady Gaga.

3. Refuses to do any more late night television until Scott Gomez(notes) is invited for a guest spot on The George Lopez Show.

2. Doesn't understand that the most popular player in a given sport -- LeBron James, Peyton Manning -- has an obligation to that sport and its fans to capitalize on moments of ultimate success in order to attract more fans and raise the profile of the sport. Or, in the short form: Does anyone believe Ryan Miller(notes) wouldn't have been on Letterman last week if the U.S. had won gold?

And the No. 1 reason Sidney Crosby Declined the Letterman Invitation ...

Two words: Team Leno.

Maybe it's just me but if he ask for 6+ mill then I say let him sign elsewhere and we'll take the compensation (draft picks etc,)

As much as I like Kes, he DOES NOT deserve Sedin type money here YET...

As for the game, how sweet would it be to have Luongo on the cover of NHL 2011. Pretty sure it will be Crosby tho...

And I wonder if anyone actually plays NHL2K series...they should just fold the Hockey and concentrate on their other sports (NBA, MLB)
