Whitney while has size, plays extremely soft and has been brutal in his own end all year and has been getting worse. Only thing is, Oilers save $1.6mil in cap space.

Also keep in mind Visnovsky has been on a brutal Oilers team this year, his stats will only get better now, I suspect back to the solid 1st pairing D-man he was in LA.

True that. but he's also 33 yrs old now i believe with 5.6 cap hit.. i guess we'll see.. sometimes change in scenery helps.. but I see it even now... The oilers saves some $ while the ducks will get a fairly good D

I think the Canucks best Deadline deal which isnt a deadline deal is the rebirth of Pavol Demitra. If he keeps playing the way he is, the Canucks already lethal offense, has gotten even better.

My only issue with today's trade deadline passing is how we still have Cory Schnider. With every passing season, the value of Cory is going down. Look at Justin Poggy. He was supposed to be the goalie of the future, but that future doesn't include Toronto, and Anaheim.
As for Cory, he will be 25 next season, and has only played a handful of games with limited success. Gilles has stated that he will sit down with Cory and his agent to discuss his longer plans for Schnider, but if you look at the team in it's current state, what is that future plan? Playing 10 to 15 games next season as Luongo's backup?

Schnider was a first round pick, and right now he is not even worth a 4th round pick.
Joey Macdonald was traded for a 7th round pick in 2011 and Poggy was traded with a 4th round pick for Aaron Ward.

So Gillis should have traded him for the sake of trading him, even if nobody made a reasonable offer??

Way to misquote me.

Let's see. A former first rounder who has only played 10 games since being drafted in 2004. I call that mismanagement.

So if you are so bright, what can Gilles do to increase Schneider's trade value by the trade dealine next year? By playing him 10-15 games next year as Lu's backup? Or by playing him in the AHL for yet another full season?

I'm not saying trade him away for nothing, especially if there was no deal today, but you cannot deny his trade value is going down with every season. You don't believe me, let's look at the available goalies at the begining of the 2010/2011 season.

Montreal has Price and Halak. After Halak's strong performance this season and the Olympics, do you think Montreal will trade him or Price who was a first round (5th overall) draft pick. Any team that is going to give away a first or second round pick for a goalie will probably pick up Price or Halak before Schnieder.

Oh yeah, Schnieder is also going to be an RFA at the end of the 2010/2011 season. If you were him and you know you are not going to get a chance to play since Lu has that big contract, what would you do? If he doesn't get a fair chance and in a few years, he just might call it quits.

Does Brian Finley ring a bell? First round pick, 6th overall in 1999 for Nashville. Played his first professional game in 2002 for the AHL Milwaukee Admirals and only played a total of 3 NHL games before retiring in 2007.

Gillis is suppose to be meeting with Cory and his agent so maybe something is in the works during the off season.

The trade deadline has passed so it isn't going to be a trade this year.

Only thing that I can see Gilles doing is either playing Schneider as the backup next year, playing 10-15 games if Lu doesn't get hurt, or continuing to be the starting goalie in the AHL.

I really want to see what tricks Gilles has in his sleeves.

What are you talking about? The Canucks can move him during the NHL entry draft this summer.

So you think Gilles is going to go into a meeting with Scheider and his agent with a proposal of trading him at the entry draft this summer as his "long term" plans?

If he didn't get any biters now, his trade value isn't going to be going up between now and draft day.

How the hell do I know why they're meeting, I posted what I heard on the radio. And how do you know what he was and wasn't offered for Cory? Maybe Gillis wants to wait it out and see what his current roster does in the playoffers before unloading him plus more teams might be on the market for a goalie end of this season.

orange7 03-03-2010 10:57 PM

srly.. wtf is wrong with the flames?

they were doing fine for the first 2 months.

thay have so many scorers that aren't scoring...

People that complain about lack of trades are idiots.

NOBODY knows what went on between Gillis and the other GMs leading up to the deadline today.

Sportsnet mentioned that the Moose are in the playoff hunt. Trading Corey would seriously piss off the fans in Manitoba and our affiliation with the franchise. Like everyone mentioned, he will probably get traded in the Summer. I'm thinking maybe as part of a package, if not like you said a 2nd or 3rd rounder at most. His value is going to be the same now as it would be later in the Summer, IMO.
