Correction. They played a strong FIRST PERIOD.

Thornton/Marleau/Heatley combined for 0 goals and 4 assists so far in 4 playoff games... Wow, just wow.. they better be thankful the second line is clicking

I wish it were that easy, but the salary he commands says otherwise...:(

Lu, the Sedins and the PK better wake up, I just put $1,000 on the Canucks to win the series last night. My friend put up $1,500 that the Kings would win, I had to take the +500 on the supposed "better" team, she voluntarily spotted me the +500 just cause the Kings are up a game.

In terms of out playing the other goalie, even in olympics, I'm not 100% sure on that.
With a super team in front of him, any mediocre goalie could have looked awesome.

Remember Jonas Hiller from the Swiss team?
He was playing good, too bad he didn't have team Canada in front of him though.

I don't think Luongo's a bad goalie...
but he's just not playing at a level anywhere near what he is expected to be at.
And other mediocre goalies are bringing their game to a new level.
So if other goalies are doing it, why can't Lu? That's the frustration fans are dealing with.

This is exactly what I've been trying to get across this board, but I just couldn't type it down.

It's what I have been saying too. You just put it in a more 'homer' way. Instead of saying "overrated" you said "he's just not playing at a level anywhere near what he is expected to be at". It has the same meaning in the end

Result when played 3 games

Phx leading series 2-1
Nsh leading series 2-1
LA leading series 2-1
Bos leading series 2-1
Phi leading series 2-1

who are their opponenet ? SJ, Det, Chi, Van, Buf, NJ

Top seeds in the conference yet top performance is not shown..
Let's hope Luongo can be on top of his game and a good result from the canucks tonight.

please shoot the damn pucks and stop making dumb penalities and quit being lazy !!!!!

Greenstoner 04-21-2010 07:47 AM

anyone followed the Hawks lately ? why are they falling ?

Goaltending issue ?

Hondaracer 04-21-2010 07:51 AM

Vancouver is a goalie graveyard because idiot fans put so much emphasis on the position that even very good goalies like Lu get crushed under unrealistic expectations, his second highest career total wins is met with "start raycroft Tom because we ain't winning with Lu"

so let's dump Lu and pick up a kipper or Nabokov at a cheaper price, goalies like that will be eaten alive here, not to mention if they don't automatically perform better than Lu they will be considered failures as well

the only situation that might work short term is a rookie playing over his head, but as soon as they falter they will be jumped on as well, so wtf are the nucks to do? I don't think well ever be able to win a cup the way this city sees the team

also I have a HUGE beef with people who say "oh he's getting paid 7 million, he ain't worth 7"

first off why the fuck as a fan are you concerned with what he gets paid annually? A fans -only- concern should be cap hit, period

Lu makes what? 10 mill the first year of his new deal? But his cap hit is only 5.5 or w/e base your opinion on the fucking cap hit not the salary, it's not like your writing his cheques.

Niemi has been playing fine, except for that 1 goal in game 1. The Hawks offense has disappeared and people underestimate how good a defense of Weber, Suter and Hamhuis are. Rinne has probably been the best goaltender of the playoffs so far as well, he's been a wall.

Fans orange7 is an example of why vancouver is a goalies graveyard.

Greenstoner 04-21-2010 08:04 AM

If we excluding the gold medal, luongo is still a goalie brought us 49 winning game in regular season when the teams is missing few players here and there for a great amount of time.

so question if he is not playing the way expected, why not question the blueline in front of him is playing like shit too?

If willie was only out few weeks, can you say we might even have a 55+ winning game ? and a sweep at LA in the first round ?

Luongo has been playin like shit, but everyone has ups and downs and this happend to be his down time. Give it a break and lets hope he bounce back

We signed him with big money but thats how we wanted before, please dont forget 99% of the fans were so happy when Luongo extended the contract with the canucks

MarkyMark 04-21-2010 08:08 AM

Luongo needs to get a fucking shutout so he can start to believe he doesn't suck himself

All goalies go through a slump, it's the great ones who come out on top. Give Lu some time - It's like his bandwagon has an escalator it's so easy for people to get on / off.

AzNightmare 04-21-2010 08:23 AM

Just read the paper... Luongo is 6-1 after being pulled the previous game.

If I were a season ticket holder, I would see myself as a shareholder of the Canucks. In effect, I would be writing his cheques because my money would be going towards the salaries of the team. Therefore, I would consider my opinion to have some weight.

You are right to say that the city throws its goalies under buses when the team starts playing poorly. Montreal is in the same position - they will never win another cup until another St. Patrick comes along (and eventually, they will even throw him out of town.)

Nice work!!!!

I'd totally take that action, except none of my friends will bet against the 'Nucks.

Yeah, that PK played so fucking good right? Didn't kill one PP. But let's blame it all on Luongo, I mean, he's making 7 MILLLL!!! HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO STOP PUCKS WITH HIS EYES CLOSED@!!!! Or while he's screened by two Kings players and his own defensemen....

who's the 6th defense man tonight im hoping its not Alberts...shud be Baumer right????

hotjoint 04-21-2010 09:08 AM

It would be awesome to see nashville take out the hawks :)

RTS 04-21-2010 09:26 AM

Don Cherry, who knows a lot more about hockey than any of you guys just said Loungo should NOT be captain (no shit). This is what I said at the start of the season? Damn Vancouver and always being 'different'.

Anyway, I hope he has good game tonight (since AV doesn't have the balls to start Rayzor) and we win. We shall see...

Gumby 04-21-2010 09:29 AM

Don Cherry is also one hell of a shit disturber. :)

But thinking back, yeah it wasn't the greatest idea. The goalie has other stuff to worry about other than being the "captain". Sure, he can be a vocal leader in the locker room, but give a player the C.
