remember the wheel can only do 1 thing well, accelerate, brake or turn. Not 2 things. RWD ftw!

but if u want a daily driver thats reliable, go for the civic.

d1 09-07-2009 12:24 AM

Is a 13.8s pass supposed to be fast?

Leopold Stotch 09-07-2009 12:27 AM

i'd go for the genesis, don't agree with how it looks but, the civic isn't that pretty.

anyhow i'd do it just cause of the ease for more power from the genesis. boost controller. downpipe. some new piping.

should be a nice bump in power.

where did you get vtech from? There is NO H in vtec

With the money you save on the genesis over civic, you could put into performance mods.
The OP even mentioned he wanted to do some tuning later on down the road.

shittt you're right. haha! i bet i was thinking TECH...rofl my bad...let me correct that in this post...!!

BUT IT'S AN SI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VTECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Euro7r 09-07-2009 02:23 AM

Screw this V-TECKKK crap, whether the civic is loaded with v-teckkkkkk or not, not like it's that insane of a sports performance vehicle. If you want performance, genesis has what you need for a decent affordable price-tag.

Why the hell would anyone pay over $30,000 for a civic and for a car that barely even has 200hp. There are other cars that get better bang for bucks to performance ratio, I'd say.

moomooCow 09-07-2009 03:12 AM

genesis so if you actually do it up, you wouldn't feel stupid driving around with your monstrous whp in a fwd car. =]

show me a fucking 4 banger with bolt on that does 13.5 than

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

what u gonna say now? mazdaspeed 3? STi? EVo? fuck anything u slap on a turbo /sc/ nitrous is fast ok
Any engine can make a gazillion hp when u slap on the turbo and make one pass so u can claim YUP i run 11s baby, than KABOOM on ur next run

350z/370z with 300hp + does 14.0 to 14.3 in 1/4 mile, and thats a fucking V6

Dinan3 09-07-2009 10:18 AM

I'd go for the Civic SI sedan.

1990TSI 09-07-2009 10:25 AM

Drive both and decide from there. before asking what random people on the internet who may or may not have driven both, try them out.

I had driven an SI and while it was alright, it was FWD and you could feel it. VTEC was pure awesome, but it's not boost. and with no money invested at all you can safely run 18PSI in the Genesis.
18psi > vtec
RWD > fwd

The genesis will run you just over 30k when you're done with financing and taxes, find out what an SI will be afterwards. As for insurance, I pay $150/month for full coverage with the genesis. I imagine I'd pay more for the civic. Any insurance place should be able to give you a rate for each vehicle, seeing as how no ones crashed or stolen a genesis yet, it should be cheaper.

Go out and drive both, today. Let us know what you think. (make sure traction control is off in the genesis ;) )

well said, test drive it is probably the best way.

Dont get me wrong, hyundai has fucking huge over the past decade. More than the americans i must admite. Back in 90s the electronic part was never able to introduced into N.A, even if it was no one would wonna buy them.

My philosophy is JDM over korean made if it was the same price.
Goes for car and electronics, hell even cell phone. But if it was cheaper i'd definitely consider it

genesis insurance definitely a lot cheaper tho

sas 09-07-2009 10:40 AM

RWD VS FWD. It's that simple. Drive both, see what you prefer.

30k for a Civic is crazy and is notorious for high insurance costs. An ITR with bolt ons will run high 13's as well. Check the honda-tech thread.

k24/k20 hybrid will not get to 400whp N/A. btw it's flashpro for Si, not Kpro.

coming from an Si driver for over 1.5years, don't get it. lacks power until 5-6K rpm. vtec kicks in at 5800, peak torque at 6100.

and btw, that is tuned on kpro, not flashpro

have you thought of getting a bmw 323i (without any option)?

or a 128i (without any option).

don't be scared with the online prices, you can easily bargain your way down to somewhere 30k or even 28k, 29k before taxes and PDI.

!Yaminashi 09-07-2009 12:01 PM

Maybe some ppl forgot to mention that the genesis warranty might be better as well?

spoonek4 09-07-2009 12:06 PM

Personal preference really....I would like to see what happen a few years later. Whether I see more Genesis/Civics in the used car lot/wreck yard instead of the street.

The fact is, almost every car competing with the current Si is boosted from the factory - ms3, wrx, ralliart, cooperS and what do you know? they're all faster than the k20 powered Si. The k20 may respond well to bolt-ons for what it is, but an ms3 gains 15whp and 20ft/lb of torque from just an intake. And you know what? nobody gives a shit if one is n/a and the other is turbo; results are what matter.

tofu1413 09-07-2009 12:54 PM

genesis is more mod friendly imo. we just have to wait for the shit load of aftermarket parts for it to make a true performer.

but then again, if u want a daily driver, that u wont mod, and dont mind getting ur ass kicked with, the civic SEDAN is a good choice. i still think the sedan looks better than the coupe! (and at least it doesnt have that huge C pillar blind spot.. ugh)

edit//

actually... if you want a fast 4cyl rwd turbo car... go pick up urself a good condition 944 turbo for about 12k or less! smoke both of those cars out of the box, and it responds very well to mods. that and you'd be storming through the highway @ 270km/h easily. but hey, thats just me ;)

spoonek4 09-07-2009 01:26 PM

If I have a Si, I would put in a set of camber bolts up front & probably go get about -1.8 camber & a bit of toe out up front right away. Cheap mod that works well with a cost under $200. Btw doesn't the genesis understeer quite a bit in the test drive video too?

Anyway I would enjoy driving a civic sedan than a civic/genesis coupe. Not because of the JDM FD2R or whatever reason, just because I'm getting sick of the 2dr idea in some ways.

4444 09-07-2009 02:12 PM

i have an Si - nice car, would i buy another? no

then again, my first car cost me $3,000

as a first car - buy used (unless you're spoilt and have parents buying it for you - yes, hate on me all you want, but we should all grow some balls and buy our own shit and not live in our parent's cunts our whole lives)

personally, for $30K, i'd pick up a used boxster S from the states

CivicTypeRice 09-07-2009 02:59 PM

OP you can buy my 07 Si!

orange7 09-07-2009 03:55 PM

when is the next gen for civics?
This model has been around since the last gen corolla.

I guess Honda needs to develope new (gutless I4) engines before it can release another model for the civics.

CorneringArtist 09-07-2009 03:59 PM

I heard that the 2.0T in the Genesis is just a slight modification of the one from the Evo, the block comes from the Lancer Ralliart, and a few of the internals are different.
