Ch28, haha yeah full of ipad haters in here. I bet they never even used the thing longer than 5mins.

I am not saying the ipad is perfect. Nothing is. Did I wish I had a laptop at times on my trip? Hell yes when I got a work call and needed to type something up. But that was only 1 hour out of 14 days. Multitasking would have been really helpful at that point too. (luckily iOS4 is coming) All other times it was great to only carry 1.5lbs. Did I wish it had flash...so I can catch some motoGP action at the airport? yes..but airport wifi sucked anyways and thats about the only flash site I use. All other times it worked great as a device you take on trip. Looking back, no way I could have made it with just an iphone. It is the step between iphone and netbook.

And I actually bought a netbook right before my trip to play around with...see how well it will work for me on the trip. I can tell you right now it is great if I get alot of work calls. But having to carry that 3lbs for 14 days is no fun...or even half a day. ipad is just way cooler to use when not working. :)

Some good things about traveling with ipad:
1. no need to take it out when going through airport security!
2. way lighter than most netbooks and takes way less space
3. great icebreaker
4. really cool device when used together by multiple people. Like when you want to show some pictures/videos to a few people at once.

Basically it is just a tool in my toolbox. Use it for the right job and it will be great.
For you haters... at the very basic level.. you guys are basically hating a screwdriver or hammer, etc. lol
yes a screwdriver isn't perfect...but it gets some jobs done very well.

Anyone actually interested in the rumoured 7"inch ipad?

c3m 09-06-2010 09:25 PM

I'll be more interested in their ipad update

maybe retina display and front camera?

VK79 09-07-2010 10:36 PM

Just picked up a 64gb. Man most of the apps I bought for my ip4 and touch look so pixilated on the larger screen. You guys know when the ipad gets the ios4 update?

pixilated apps has nothing to do with OS. u need to purchase HD version created for iPad instead if there's a app you really like. For example, Angry Bird has Angry Bird HD which goes for $4.99 instead of 99 cents on iPhone.

iPhone app will work, but it wont look good at all.

Yep, I am aware of that. Had to do the same thing with my dvd collection when I decided to go with blu ray. Just saying it sucks that I have to rebuy all the apps I like again less than 1 week later.

ecsw 09-08-2010 10:50 AM

^ :) I know it sucks. but on the bright, jailbreakme still works with ipad. :)

I have itether($5 from Cydia) on iphone4 and tethering thru BT which battery last a lot longer than mywi($20 thru rock) if anyone is interested. Now as long as my wife is close by (it's her iphone4), I can simply turn on itether from my ipad and have internet access anywhere I go. :)

terkan 09-08-2010 11:41 AM

does itether work the other way around? coz i have data on the ipad instead lol.. and does it work if i connect with other device? or just iphones ipads thru bt? coz atleast with mywi i can connect any wifi enabled device on it.

i won my ipad earlier from work.. at first i wasn't too fond of it.. but now that i had it for a while. i kinda like it. especially now i can watch basically any video format on it without having to convert. kills time when i'm at work or taking the skytrain :D

yes, it should. I had problem setting it up at first.... but once working, it's all good.

Yes, multiple devices are ok. I have iPhone4 tethering enabled from network settings (not sure if that's available in iPad with 3.2.1?) it will ask to turn on BT or USB. I choose BT and that's it.

From my iPad (3.2) and iPod (4.0), I purchased itether once and installed on both. whenever I need data, I only need to turn on itether, no need to do anything on iPhone.

mywi works ok with iPhone4, but it will crash if i used cracked one. :(
mywi aso needs to be turn on on iPhone4 when you need to use it. you wont leave it on all the time as it drains power quickly too.
It also works with PC (iPhone tethering over BT PN).

I use my iPad way more than my 11" laptop now. typing on iPad is much easier than I thought it would be and I replied most of my mail on my iPad.

I used to hate "i" products especially for the iTune video conversion. But Oplayer or many other players does divx just fine now.

The only problem is, I can't show my iPad around kids in family days on the weekend since every kid is asking me "may I play games on your iPad, please?" and I will be instantly "iPad-less". lol.

terkan 09-08-2010 11:59 AM

oh i was just referring to other phone devices with wifi haha ~ i don't think all the phone have the BT tether option rite? but ya i'll give ur itether a try.. it seems pretty good actually

goo3 09-11-2010 12:58 AM

Does anyone use it for note taking? Specifically, note taking on top of PDFs for later review and printing.

I know there's some apps like NoteTaker or iAnnotate PDF. Do they work well or are they kinda iffy? Actually, are there any other tablets/PCs out there that can do note taking well?

Edit: Sorry, I meant note taking with a stylus or finger. I want to replace using paper.

terkan 09-11-2010 01:18 AM

i use it for taking note sometimes while i was still doing my training on my job ~ but i used the attach keyboard since my dad bought one

VK79 09-11-2010 12:15 PM

Yep, Use eFinger for iPad and Handwriting for ip4/touch. No more post it and scraps of paper on my desk. Trying out mental note lite to see if it's any good.

oic. the tethering is only on "i" device and PC/MAC. Android/N900 wont be able to see it.

Android wont work on mywi either, nor JoikuSpot on Nokia because it doesn't support peer to peer wifi unless you root it and change one of the setting in the configuration file.

Windows7 works on BT, but there seem to be a limitation on how many devices can be connected at the same time once PC is connected.

ecsw 12-13-2010 10:08 AM

i need help. Anyone bought an iPad 3G in FS/BB? Are they suppose to come with a MicroSIM? I was at Rogers asking about the SIM and was told it should come with one if you buy it from FS? Is it right?

ecsw 01-03-2011 10:00 PM

To answer my own question, yes, they should come with 1 for free. Have to go back to future shop and they made a return and re-purchase of the iPad and got it for free.

in regards to greenpois0n, if you are getting the initialized line sitting there, delete any iBBS.n**ap file, and try again.
