Don't go out, North Burnaby is fucked out there.

It's not even the snow, it's so cold out that the roads have this thin layer of ice. Even the C2's were slipping about.

It would be better driving conditions if there was actual snow.

Hondaracer 01-11-2024 03:37 PM

Hahahaha holy fuckkkk!!! To echo mikes points, do not go out!!

From nanaimo skytrain to Hastings I saw 5 fucking accidents some baddd like head on into poles, other trucks couldn’t get up side streets just spinning sliding backwards people panicking badddd

Razor Ramon HG 01-11-2024 03:39 PM

Bros, I am flying out of Hong Kong tonight. Am I gonna get fucked? :okay:

It's what, an 11 hour flight? It'll be drivable by tomorrow. It's already starting to slow/stop already. And the next few days are supposed to be clear.

Hondaracer 01-11-2024 03:58 PM

I think to mikes point though is that there is a layer of ice on the road

I’ve got no clue how a street like nanaimo wasn’t so salted nothing could stick, but driving an Evo car home in like hmm.. lets test it, and anything more than a controlled brake was lock up/sliding, and it’s only going to get colder

Gerbs 01-11-2024 03:58 PM

No more snow on forecast, but todays snow wasn't on forecast either.

EvoFire 01-11-2024 04:06 PM

If any of you need to head out, becareful, there's a nice sheet of ice under the snow on the unbrined roads. I was heading down a hill on a side street and I almost hit a minivan head on because he won't stop and I couldn't stop with my ABS just chattering away.

I circled back around because I had missed my turn and the minivan was backing down the hill because he was stuck.

suggest everyone download the weatherCAN app.. its the official goverment weather app.

I find it more reliable then all the other ones out there.

said it would snow at 2pm the night before and sure enough thats when it started to slowly come down in my area.

I came back from Alberta yesterday. I was able to experience -28 with constant snow and it didn't phase me...

...after wearing 2 thermal pants + jeans & 1 thermal shirt + 1 t-shirt + 1 sweater + 1 winter coat up top. It was fine.

Now I come back to this shit.

I woke up late today due to late delayed flight yesterday. It was sunny and dry. I decided to take my RWD car to work instead of my AWD van with newish winter tires.

Saw the snow falling after 3pm and decided to leave early. Usually when it snows, the temp hovers around +2 but this time it already -2. I knew this was a bad omen. I could feel the ice build under my car as I waited in traffic. Every fucking feeder route to Lougheed HWY in Burnaby east was clogged. I tried my best to navigate around but it wasn't doing much. As the snow and ice built while sitting around, I had no choice but to park my car. it's about 3 km away from my house and I walked back home while carrying a brand new Fender Strat. Fun times. Luckily the car is parked in an apartment neighbourhood and not in the middle of the street.

I wish I was back in Alberta already. That $1.09/L Costco gas was :sweetjesus:

Didn't think it would still snow cause I thought the windstorm last night blew it away. Turns out the windstorm was just part of the overall storm and came down perfectly as scheduled here in North Van.

Badhobz 01-11-2024 06:09 PM

1 fucking cm of snow and these idiots all kill themselves. NICE.

surrey was so damn normal today. the snow wasnt sticking to the main roads, it was absolutely bone dry and would just blow right off since it was windy. zero slush and wetness so no ice at all.

HonestTea 01-11-2024 06:49 PM

Took me 4.5 FUCKING hours to get home from Oakridge Mall to Coquitlam at 3 PM. Hills are absolutely ice rinks and you just hope for the best when ABS kicks in.

So many people have parked their cars on the side of the hills and gave up in Coquitlam. Its absolutely fucked and tomorrow morning will have black ice everywhere (-20 overnight lows)

It was BAD with how fast the roads turned to ice.

PS: 4MATIC IS AMAZING

just drove past this going westbound, commercial vans and trunks are all stopped on the s-curve. From my angle couldn't see what was wrong but it seemed like they just stopped on the road right before the exit to westminster highway. backed up all the way into richmond, highway 99 closed off iirc, and oak all the way up until king edward at least. better off going tunnel from what i heard. took me 2.5h to go from surrey to ubc

Everyone laughs at us when the city shuts down over 2cm of snow. However, today was warm/sunny enough that the first few flakes that fell, melted and froze up. My south facing concrete front steps have a solid layer of ice on them with no snow.

What I don’t get is how can streets like Hastings and nanaimo not be salted enough that it doesn’t turn to ice?

Is that just impossible given the scenario? I find it hard to believe

westopher 01-11-2024 07:30 PM

I got home in 30 minutes from DT to north van in a 26 year old RWD car on summers with traction control off. What the fuck is going on here lol.
Full disclosure, I certainly wouldn't have taken this car to work if the forecast said any snow when I checked this morning.

I was on the bottom of this hill from 3:30-4:30, no cars moved. Decided to turn around and go back home.

Delicious delicious Richmond idiots are out everywhere. Like its barely enough snow to even cover my lawn and these fuckers are ending up in trees, telephone poles, ditches, etc

I got bored, took the Camry and went for a cruise to check out the carnage. Hilarious. Even did a few doughnuts in a parking lot
