upgraded the day it came out - definitely did see some improvement in speed. Even with SSD's installed it did feel faster to work with.

Yeah I felt it was a bit faster after installing Mountain Lion. Just ordered a 240gb Sandisk Extreme SSD and a data doubler. Can't wait till they both come in!!!

hey guys, just got my first macbook. I just got the basic MBP 13in. I'm looking to upgrade to an SSD and also upgrade the ram to 8gb or 16gb. I would like to know which SSD ram is recommended for Mac?

SSD, assuming you are on the Ivy-Bridge 13" MBP, Crucial M4, Intel 520, Plextor... they are all good.

I would like to know which SSD ram is recommended for Mac? | You can get decent 256GB SSD's for under $200 now. Make sure you check the reviews because the cheaper of the cheap SSDs will have read/write times half or less than half of what a quality SSD model can do which is a big difference in performance.
The bare OS uses under 15GB and if you add a healthy dosage of apps including Office and some Adobe products it'll cost you another 15GB of space. So if having 200GB of space isn't enough you can amp up to get a Crucial M4 512GB for just under $400. Or.......you can get a hybrid SSD drive from Seagate. The 500GB comes with 4GB of dynamic SSD which transparently copies the most used files onto the SSD side for quicker than regular HD performance for $90. Or you can get the 750GB with 8GB of hybrid SSD for $150.
I've installed Hybrid 500GB's my friend's older black plastic 13" Macbook, my sister's aluminum 13" MBP, both using Core2 DUO processors and their boot times hold at just under 20 seconds. Another friend's 13" MBP i5 boots a tad quicker near the 15 second range. I have it on my i7 15" and performance seems to be nice and snappy when it's all booted up. Boot times for for at 10-15 seconds more than the slower 13" counter parts which is strange.

I was reading some reviews on Newegg.ca about DDR3-1333. They say its not stable with the new 2012 MBPs. They say I would need a DDR3-1600. Anyone one with the 2012 MBPs, have you upgrade the ram from a aftermarket company or just straight from apple?

^ I thought only the Macbook Pro retina support up to 16GB ram. The Macbook Pro 13" and 15" normal support up to 8GB ram
For SSD you should take a look at OWC. They make SSD, ram and other hardware accessories for the Apple Mac line up.

OWC is expensive - but they are worth the money you spend.

Been debating on getting a MBP , my only issues is that i'd prefer a 15inch but can't justify paying over $1700 for a laptop

For those of you who have upgraded to Mountain Lion, can you confirm or deny any battery problems? Lots of talk about reduced battery life has prevented me from upgraded as of yet. :S

haven't had an issue yet - mind you, i did a battery recalibrate just yesterday. Before that, battery usage was like normal for me. Quote:

Just pulled the trigger on a 2012 MBA spec'd with 8GB of ram. Was tempted to splurge and get the rMBP but I figure the money I save will go towards a nice NAS for the household.
Heads up for fellow new MBA buyers, OWC just got the new SSD modules made with the new connectors so heres your chance for an upgrade. SSD for MacBook Air 2012 - OWC Mercury Pro Aura Express Sandforce Driven |

Retina is only useful for people that do photos or video. It's a waste for everyone else that just wants to watch cats hazing cheezeburgers.

Good thing the charger is always close by as it doesn't leave the house very much anymore.

I love the profile and batch features, good quality conversions too.

Is there a must do before using a new rMBP? Charge the battery to full capacity before use?
Also mine says it will be shipped Aug. 10-17 but it arrived today. Will be picking it up later.
