Yea you should be able to do it on yours. I chose to do a fresh install of OSX, I had too much stuff installed from work and wanted to do a fresh install.

Thinkin of getting an Apple laptop. Any suggestions? Leaning towards the Air as it's cheaper and lighter.
Looking for portability, good battery life, taking notes in class, and writing papers. Essentially school stuff.
Is there a need to upgrade the Air to i7? Not planning on playing games I don't think.

The Air is the best laptop for normal people.
You can probably stick to the i5 but it can't hurt to go with a faster processor. Be sure to get your education discount.

Any reason to go for MBP though?
Thanks for reminder. Almost forgot about the discount!

For what you're doing, no. Don't carry all that extra weight for nothing. Carrying a Macbook Air is seriously like carrying nothing.

I have the new 2013 Air, and I completely agree. For basic usage, it's perfect.. super light, battery lasts forever, looks good, compact, plenty fast (mine is the i7, but i think you'll be ok with the i5)

new 13" air is awesome! Just brought one for my GF, the battery really does last forever! The only time its plugged in is when she isn't using it.
my 15" rMBP could hardly get 5 hours battery life.

Air also comes with SSD.
I only got 15 MBP so that I can load windows on it as well for gaming because it has an amazing gfx card.

+1 for the new 2013 13" Macbook Air
for just $100 extra, you get a bigger screen, bigger battery, and twice the storage of the 11" base model.
I'd totally get it if my early 2011 MBP didn't have such shitty resale value

Going with the Air, but not sure about the additional options, specifically whether to get Apple Care and the 8GB RAM.
I'm not planning on using it for games. Just watching movies, Photoshop, and daily things.

And if I buy it now, will I get to have OS X Maverick automatically later?

You can buy AC anytime during your first year of ownership. Buy it if you feel you need it then.

And if I buy it now, will I get to have OS X Maverick automatically later? | It's $279 for a $1300 laptop (21.5% of value). I guarantee 21.5% of Macbook Airs don't suffer a major failure in years 2 and 3.
Also, "bumps and shit" (drops, spills, etc.) aren't covered by Applecare. Only failure caused by manufacturer defects. Quote:

So the trackpad on my MBA seems to stop working once in a while. Putting it in sleep mode and then logging back in seems to work, though that's an annoyance when you're in the middle of something. Any thoughts or tips on what I can do before bringing it to an Apple store, especially since I live nowhere near one at the moment?

Do you have the Android File Transfer app installed?

Nope. Only things that've been installed are all the OS updates and Adobe Master Suite CS6 (legal copy, I should add). It's a Q2 '12 model, if it makes any type of difference.

Try resetting PRAM/SMC if something weird comes up to your mac. It usually solves most of small problems. If the problem persists, then bring it to apple.

Heard MBP retina refresh is coming out during October. It should have the new haswell processor, and longer battery life. Do you guys think the screen is worth it? The other option would be a 13" air. I like the way the MBP is shaped over the air. Will be using it for school (might need autocad or other more processing power programs). Posted via RS Mobile |
