Don't install any. Mac isn't a window and you ain't bombarded with virus on a daily basis. Just be careful what you download. All antivirus slows down the computer. If u must install safety softwares get firewall.

Wow...I wiped my MBP keyboard with a wetnap, that was barley wet and now half my keyboard doesn't work. Bringing it to the apple store today, but my warranty is over. Hope this doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Guy at my school is selling a mid2010 15" Macbook Pro i5 8GB upgraded RAM, 320GB hard drive, OS X Lion, fully loaded with Adobe CS5 Master Collection + Office 2011. Condition looks mint, says there's 3.5 hour battery life. Selling for $1500. Good deal?

Thats wayy too much.

Not to say that the apps add much value since you don't know if its legit or not but the 8GB ram upgrade costs like $35 these days.

Craigslist yielded me this for half the price minus the ram.

I think he's mislabelled it. The picture shows a 13". The 15.4 has speaker grills on either side of the keyboard.

Reburb from Apple is just as good as buying new. It has the same warranty that can also be extended.

I went the refurbished route and don't regret it at all. It is exactly like buying it brand new minus the box. You know for sure it's going to work because they fixed what was broken and retested/restored everything. You also get apple's 1 year apple care which is actually good. I think they cover almost everything except physical damages.

Looking for either a MacBook Air or Pro 13 inch or 15 inch. Will mainly use it for day to day stuff, going to school but I want to learn photoshop so might be using it for that as well. Not looking for a gaming laptop, watching movies most likely. Any recos?

Refurbished Mac Computers - Refurbished Notebooks & Desktop Computers - Apple Store (Canada)

Looked at the store and there are so many options, I don't really know which is the best deal. Recos for this as well. Thanks in advance

i think you are better off just buying a macbook air or pro new using your education discount since its for school.

refurb 13inch macbook air core i5/4gb/128gb is $1074 after tax (refurbs dont get education discount)

if you buy the new model i5/4g/128gb it would come to 1320.48

the diffrence in price is $246.48 but you gain:
-faster CPU with no impact on battery life
-2xUSB 3.0 ports
-intel HD4000 is a much faster video card by a large percent (i think 84%?)
-mountain lion free
-100 dollar giftcard for itunes/app store
-better facetime camera
-much faster SSD
-the same fan as the one inside MBP retina (supposedly quieter)
-a newer thunderbolt port and new design mag safe(both not really worth it but still)

that list is worth so much more than $250... not to mention depreciation(apple products hold their value very well), infact you will lose a large chunk of that 250 if you try to resell it down the line over getting a new one.

I've done a lot of work on an 11.6" before. For me it was definitely manageable and definitely portable. However nowadays I'd probably rather get a 13" with the higher res screen.

I had an 11.6" air and it was great. Mainly used it for excel and web.
When I had to do some proper work it really helped when hooked up to a monitor.

Eventho it has a lower resolution, if you surf in full screen it's quite decent.
My only gripe was the 2gb ram, if it had 4 gb I would still have it now.
