I would be surprised if the airport and/or runways didn't sustain any damage from the earthquake! |
Holy cow just got a hold of my cousin who's on the JET program in Japan (the one where you go teach english). Thankfully he's OK, but a lot of his friends... not so much - a handful of his friends are in Sendai.... couldn't get a hold of them yet... :(:( |

If any country can come back quickly and better from this, it's Japan. Having said that, if any of you guys hear of any volunteer demolition/construction projects in the future, please keep my post in mind and let me know. |

That's just chilling. |
I hope all of your families and friends who are over there are safe! And definitely get in touch with the Canadian Consulate, I know it's not fair, but you'll get treated a lot better/faster than locals if you contact them. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca...eng&menu_id=28 http://www.voyage.gc.ca/faq/disaster...rophes-eng.asp for more info. On another note, what happens with insurance in these types of situations? Surely, the insurance companies don't have enough to pay everyone out? |
for those that have friends working in okinawa MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP S.D. BUTLER, OKINAWA, Japan - Marines and sailors stood up an emergency operations center to facilitate the evacuation of U.S. service members living in low-lying areas around Okinawa, March 11. In response to the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that started a tsunami off the coast of mainland Japan, III Marine Expeditionary Force commanding general and Marine Corps Bases Japan commander, Lt. Gen. Kenneth J. Glueck Jr., ordered 100 percent accountability of all Marines, sailors and civilians assigned to Marine Forces Japan. Maj. Gen. Peter J. Talleri, Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler commanding general, coordinated emergency actions aboard Marine Corps installations throughout Japan. Additionally, a tsunami advisory issued by the Japanese Meteorological Agency triggered an evacuation of U.S. service members living in low-lying areas around Okinawa. At 10 p.m. local time (8 a.m. Eastern Standard Time), service members who were evacuated were allowed to move back to their residences. There have been no reports of damage to Marine Corps facilities throughout Japan, and there has been 100 percent accountability of all personnel. We will continue to monitor the tsunami, coordinate with other U.S. forces on Okinawa, and take action to ensure the safety of military personnel, family members, civilian employees and contractors. III MEF stands ready to respond to any requests for assistance, as directed by the U.S. government. |
Also you are suppose to call the embassy if you have canadian family in japan. That's what they are there for. |
