I've been trying to find one locally, and of course there are tons of morons on CL jacking up the price trying to resell them for 30% more than retail. It'll probably be weeks before I can find one, which brings me to consider another product.

Samsung Slider Series 7 @ $649.99 USD (Price confirmed by pre-order @ Amazon.com)

Win 7, HDMI out, SD support, physical keyboard, front and rear cameras, (GPRS)3G Support, 2lbs. It makes me consider this now because its coming out VERY soon. The only advantage I like about the ASUS TF is the dock is also a battery in itself, and it runs honeycomb.

will be getting one end of August. XD

striderblade 05-03-2011 03:39 PM

wow that women asked the dumbest question. "what happen if the battery die...do you buy a new one?" WTFLYINGFUCK The sliding keyboard is nice. But the UI seem laggy

RevRav 05-03-2011 04:32 PM

The sliding keyboard is nice...
but one think I hate with a lot of Samsung's products is the huge black plasticly-looking frame surrounding their products. Ie. in this case...the frame of the tablet. Gives consumer this "cheap plastic" feel + look to it... And its a lot thicker than the Transformer + keyboard.

You're probably gonna get crap battery life on something like that. Should wait. Windows is gonna enter with an Arm compatible version if you really want a windows lightweight tablet.

JesseBlue 05-03-2011 09:24 PM

with that samsung, you might as well get another laptop...

It would be a replacement for my netbook which I take to school, and around town if I need it.

The specs are similar to my current netbook (LG X110 - 1.6Ghz Atom [Single Core], 2GB ram, running Win 7. So yes, in essence I would be buying another laptop, this time with a captive touchscreen for a reasonable cost. I'm satisfied with the performance on my netbook so I'm ok with going to either the TF101 or The Samsung slider..

Back on topic with the TF101.

Does anyone on RS have one at the moment? Im concerns is that the hinge on the dock seemed a bit flimsy on the videos. Im concerned about the durability. I'm not rough with my products, but sometimes a neoprene case cant absorb the impact of university textbooks if you get my drift.

ASUS is already talking about Tegra 3 tablets to be ready later this year. I wouldn't buy a Tegra 2 when a new version that will be 5x faster is due in less than 6 months. By then Google should have the bugs in Honeycomb worked out and there will actually be a good selection of tablet apps available.

There's always going to be something new around the corner with technology. It's almost guaranteed that there's going to be a new iPad within the next year too!

dangonay 05-04-2011 09:47 AM

^ True, and I know some people who never buy stuff because of the next great thing coming up. I also know people with money to burn who constantly upgrade to the latest.

I'm in the middle - I wait for something significant to some out, then buy and keep it for a little longer. I try to buy something at the start of its life cycle, not at the end.

Yeah this is much closer to a laptop then what I'm looking for personally. But it does have awesome potential as a netbook.

I'm amazed how short the product cycle is getting. And it's getting frusterating as hell to keep up!

Hehe 05-04-2011 10:28 AM

I'm the kind of geek junky that keeps up with most of the latest stuff.

The economical way to maintain this is to take advantage of new stuff and CL.

My iPad-->iPad2: iPad1 originally bought with Futureshop gift cards that I bought off Craigslist at 15% discount. Basically no tax for me. Went down to US to buy 3 iPad2s. Sold 2 for 250 profit each on CL and my new iPad2 was basically free and as CDN is worth more than USD, I even got my gas covered.

If you plan ahead and always look for good deals on CL, the upkeep with latest gadget can be minimum.

You just have to be smart about technology. If you want the latest and greatest, be prepared to pay.

If you wait forever, you're being an idiot. Basically the best way i think, is to wait long enough until the product has significantly improved. For the iPhone, the iPhone4 was the sweet spot.

I think the iPad 3 will be the sweet spot for iPads, and as tempting as this eee transformer tablet is, I'm sure that by the end of the year you will see something good enough that it will make you regret getting one of these now..

Tegra 3 looks more promising. I'm willing to wait. Might just pick up a 1st gen Ipad for now.

So Superman, Batman, Wolverine and Ironman? Cute.

JesseBlue 05-04-2011 05:02 PM

with a shorter life cycle on items...the more items that go to waste and landfill no matter how much stuff is recycled... :(

604CEFIRO 05-05-2011 03:41 PM

I was at memory express last nite right before closing.

There was some sort of weird mix up, but they had 2 Transformers in stock and available... the catch was ONLY if u were on the pre-order prepaid list.

I had a chance to take the tablet right there and then since i prepaid for one, but i passed due to other financial commitments that came up.

ended up purchasing a keyboard and headphones for gaming since i couldnt get my deposit back

I'll wait till the end of the month to see if new shit comes out, but im sure by end of may/june there will be plenty of Transformer supply.

LiquidTurbo 05-05-2011 08:15 PM

Anyone got this yet? How is it so far?

LiquidTurbo 05-06-2011 08:03 PM

Man, backordered for a month..

604CEFIRO 05-09-2011 02:58 PM

I thought memory express cancelled my preorder but they ended up calling me anyways

Just picked up mine along with the keyboard dock

Alright guys so i'm typing this on the tablet atm. I'm going to give you my initial impression.

I'm not sure if its a hardware issue or a software issue but even typing this right now, there is significant lag betweeen me pressing the keys and the actual letters popping up on screen.

Youtube videos are quite choppy. It's like buffer freezing, but its not. It will play smooth then be choppy.

I downloaded and installed Facebook, but the application crashes evry single time i go to my "friends" tab, it crashes and forces me to close the application

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted the Transformer but it hasnt fixed the issue.

The browser on this thing is recognizzed as mobile browser, so when i go on Facebook.com i can only view it on this android version and i cant really choose the desktop version.

I cannot tether the Asus Transformer to my iPhone4 using MyWi. The device doesn't recognize mywi adhoc hotspot.

So far, I'm not impressed. This post has taken me 10 minutes so far to type because the words dont appear fast enough on the screen

I'm pretty certain this is a software issue.
I played around with the Motorola Xoom that my friend had bought for a couple of days; and I was plagued with the same issues when posting on forums, facebook, google docs, office app, etc.
Considering the processing power and ram, there really shouldn't be as much lag as there is when typing.
Regarding the mobile version of websites issue, try typing about:debug into your browser address bar.
How is the browser when it comes to browsing multiple tabs?
The Xoom will crash repeatedly when browsing multiple tabs, and some websites (like jalopnik) will cause it to crash as well.
