Asus EEE TF101 Transformer tablet launch

forgive me if its already posted:

so it's launching tomorrow
anyone considering getting this?
looks decently spec'd up to 9.5 hours battery time (16 with dock!)

http://www.laptopmag.com/review/tabl...mer-tf101.aspx

might just do it since its priced at 399(wifi only)/499 [149 for the dock]

but may just wait for the tab2

Pick one up for me, willya? I'll pay you back eventually :)

Seriously, looks pretty trick... although with my need for Windows for work stuff, I'd love to see a PC design like this.

CP.AR 04-25-2011 02:54 PM

I was going to pick up one when I go back to Hong Kong in the summer... until my laptop started to die.

So now I have decided that I don't need a laptop and then a tablet that transforms into a laptop.

I'm probably just gonna pick up some other random android dual core tablet lol.

!MiKrofT 04-25-2011 03:05 PM

This is currently the cheapest dual core full featured 10" tablet. The keyboard is optional anyways. Other than the Viewsonic G tablet this is an awesome deal.

mk1freak 04-25-2011 07:13 PM

confirmed price at memoryexpress 399 with 16gb (wifi only).
they have 2 in stock friend showed me the box, but they weren't opening it LOL
32gb is not in stock nor are there any keyboard docks.

What I dont understand was why Asus didn't use USB 3.0 or Bluetooth 3.0 for this model / the keyboard dock. It's been out for quite sometime now, and its seen across their line of netbooks.

Otherwise, its a great tablet/netbook!

PornMaster 04-25-2011 08:08 PM

So where can I get one?
Only memory express?

RevRav 04-25-2011 11:14 PM

^ NCIX have them. They even did a "review" of it:

Is USB 3.0 really necessary on the tablet? I mean it'll only have the 16gb plus whatever microsd you install on it. At those sizes I don't think speed is that much of a concern.

the more i look at this thing again the more I want it.....

It'll be even more epic if it can dualboot into linux (which i'm sure it will eventually be able to)
If i get it in Hong Kong it has GPS too!

bcedhk 04-26-2011 12:21 AM

how come on the NCIX techtip the playback on the asus seemed choppy?

I thought they all came with GPS?

North American models will only have "location-base GPS" which depend on your wifi.

I'm no expert, nor have I got the chance to get my hands on an Eee Pad yet. But I'm reading it from here:
http://forums.ncix.com/forums/?mode=...er=1&subpage=1

CP.AR 04-26-2011 11:07 AM

It's a bit more expensive in Hong Kong (4000HKD = $490 CAD for 16gb) if you buy the machine on its own, but the buying both pieces (ie: with the keyboard dock) as a package is about 4800HKD = $590 CAD. Keep in mind too there's no sales tax in Hong Kong!

gaaaahhh should I buy a fancy tablet or a sexy laptop? or BOTH and use up my tax refund lol

RevRav 04-26-2011 12:05 PM

Any one got the chance to check it out in store today?

RE: GPS in US version? Need confirmation from anandtech please by Anand Lal Shimpi on Thursday, April 21, 2011
I just confirmed with ASUS, the US version does have GPS hardware. Maps seems to require an active WiFi connection to use GPS however, which is why I originally assumed it wasn't present. My mistake, I've corrected the review :)

Take care,
Anand

Because it is choppy.
Sources state playback choppiness is due to software, but at this point, it's all speculation.

Levitron 04-27-2011 07:16 AM

Ordered mine with NCIX. Pretty excited to get it in my hands :)

jmvdesign 04-27-2011 08:31 AM

I'm sold. Way more practical than the Ipad.

More practical than a netbook? :troll:

Simplex123 04-27-2011 06:17 PM

fuck I'd want something like this but 10" is actually too small for my netbook usage, but a 12" would be too large for a tablet

PornMaster 04-27-2011 06:54 PM

How come best buy states has it but not canada

Shouldn't be difficult. Hardware is essentially the same as my Viewsonic G Tablet and the folks at XDA have had Ubuntu running on it for months now
