It's a tough business being a wholesaler/distributor many open up and close down within 6months you really need to have deep pockets to purchase the seafood that's not even half the battle. You compete with other wholesaler to gain suppliers of live seafood. Then after that you need a reliable purchaser out of country that's trustworthy. Wholesalers that are still around are millionaires now if they started early in the 80s . Posted via RS Mobile |

Not spot prawns but related, I heard on the radio this morning that Dungeness Crab is at an all-time high price right now (more expensive than lobster!) because they are all being shipped off to China

I don't think I've ever bought crabs for at least 5 years. I've been recreationally catching them for a long ass time. If you have access to a boat, it becomes very easy to catch crabs. Lots of times my group limits out in an hour.

Not sure if it is the same type of prawn we are talking about but my sister went to granville island on Sat and got some prawn. They were huge! Anyways her bf knows a few guys who sold them (they sold them in their boat a few mins walk from granville island). Taste really guy according to the fishermen these prawns is only in the season for a few weeks.
