I'm kinda lol' ing at her 2 year probation. I'd rather see less time in probation, and more towards community service. It's not like she's an at risk offender.
Btw, kinda OT, but what passes as community service?

Btw, kinda OT, but what passes as community service? | More than likely, she will have to report to a probation officer, or check-in at the probation office and scan a card she that she will be issued when she checks in with her probation officer for the first time.
There, that person will give her some options to serve her community service. Usually, it will be some charity or not for profit organization.
While there, the people there should give her some sort of work to do each day and at the end of the 150 hrs, will sign off on some form where she will hand back to her probation officer to show she has completed her work.
It will not be demeaning work, but at the same time it shouldn't be a walk in the park for her. Maybe some downtown community center or drug rehab center can be possible choices.

she earned herself a record. that will be a lingering pain in the ass of a reminder for a long time.
id rather spend a month in jail or pay a $50k fine than get a record.

One stupid mistake, and she's been fired from 3 jobs, and has a name recognizable as notorious in Vancouver.
Kind of sad for a pair of size 42 pants.
You know, honestly, she won't even be able to sign a lease on an apartment without lying?

Even if she got a month of jail time or fine, she'd still have the criminal record.
The only way she wouldn't have a criminal record is if she was found not guilty, got an absolute discharge or not stolen 2 pairs of size 42 mens pants and a tie.
Even applying for jobs or crossing into the US she is hooped and will have to lie.

even if she was only indicted that bars her from a lot of jobs, although employers aren't officially allowed to discriminate you for being indicted that doesn't stop them from just saying no

^ i think that's what happened to 99% of the population. I would think if she didn't post that stupid blog post she would've gotten a lot more slack, and she would've probably sat in jail instead of doing community service which is more beneficial to the society. I'd rather have her working for free than have her sit around, eat better food and sleep on better beds than the homeless. Although jail time might have taught her a better lesson.

i wonder if people like Dustin anderson, Sean yates or Nathan kotylak wrote a horrid train wreck of an apology/sympathy letter to the public would they have gotten the same treatment? No jail just pickup trash on the side of the hwy.

Just want to add a bit of info in regards to your comments.
I think she's getting a lot of hate and you guys are forgetting about the apology.
If it was truly a momentary lapse of judgement instead of her actual character, then her original "apology" (read: excuse) letter wouldn't have been so "it wasn't me".
She's getting all this flak and people want to see her fail not because she stole a pair of pants, but her reaction to it even after a night's rest.

everyone would admit it if they were found guilty.. The reason she stepped forward was of the VIDEO footage... if there was no video of her, WOULD she have come foward? I wouldnt think so.. IF she did, THEN that shows how truly sorry she would be
As for her sentence, Im not agreeing with it.. its a bit harsh... but......

i think she became notorious after her non-genuine 'apology' blog
would been better off without writing one at all

Alexander Peepre, 21, must also pay $2,000 to the owner of a GMC truck he helped overturn during the June 15, 2011 riot.
In addition to 60 days in jail, Peepre was sentenced to 18 months of probation and 125 hours of community service, said Neil MacKenzie, a spokesman for the Criminal Justice Branch.
The University of British Columbia student will remain in jail until Sunday and then serve the rest of his sentence on weekends so he can continue to attend classes at the university.
During the riot, Peepre punched photographer Cameron Brown, who was already on the ground. Brown suffered a concussion and required stitches to his head. He is suing Peepre for $4,000 worth of damage to photographic equipment that allegedly happened during the assault.
