I'm saying for $50 more you get a device designed to sit on the couch. The TP is just another tablet, while Amazon looks like they've optimized the Fire specially for the things we'd do on the couch. Plus you get a fully supported device with apps, and the ability to turn your tablet into a remote for your TV.

Would I be able to use the Fire with just one hand? :alone:

CyanogenMod ALPHA 1 was released yesterday

[RELEASE][ALPHA][Discussion] CyanogenMod team Touchpad port

Don't have a TouchPad to test it out on but seems like they're making good progress.

To be clear, you are encouraged NOT to install this software, as the alpha is only a test version and as stated above, there is no claim that it is fit for any purpose. You may experience issues ranging from the benign to the very serious, including potential data leakage, and/or permanent loss of data, and even the possible "bricking" or permanent disabling of your device. Or worse. It can't be emphasized enough how risky its use may be. Try it entirely at your own risk and with full understanding of the potential for problems and acceptance of any consequences that may result.
this is enough for me to wait haha

Just installed android onto my TP. Pretty good so far.

Supposedly, there is a built in GPS in the TP but is disabled with WebOS.
I will try out the navi when I get home tonight to download the newest maps.

Hondaracer 10-14-2011 11:50 AM

Finally got a working TP after 2 months from HP..

Got it going at 1.5ghz felt smoother instantly, is there a 1.7 kernel I can download as easy as the uber one?

So far what works and what doesn't? or what problems have you run into?

Everything works, except for a home button like on my SGS.
I'm at work so haven't had time to really play with it. My co-worker was the one that installed android 2.37 for me.

Wifi works.
Blue tooth works.

Co-worker installed some GPS program that runs offline with the GPS chip in the TP. I will try that tonight. If things go well, I may delete all the old apps and fully run android apps.

[webOS] [GUIDE] Overclock the HP Touchpad to 1.9Ghz - xda-developers

This is the way to get 1.7 or 1.9 now.
But having played with Android one night, I don't see the point of OC'ing webOS. Android is far superior other than not being able to multitask.

Hondaracer 10-16-2011 02:08 PM

Is there any easy way to stream content from TP to tv's?

Hondaracer 10-19-2011 09:40 AM

So is there a new update 3.0.4 that cannot load preware now? A buddy of mine bought a TP and it took forever to download and install the newest firmware and now when I tried to install preware it just hung for like 10 minutes

Jmac 10-19-2011 10:04 AM

It works fine with Preware if you had it on prior to the update

Hondaracer 10-19-2011 10:05 AM

His TP was bought in August and not updated till now, so can I not download a fresh preware with this new update?
