Miata over GR86 unless it's your only car and you need the practicality/solid roof etc.
GR86 chassis is better than Miata, but man the engine/trans combo is very meh in both generations. Miata (especially ND2) is way more fun to rev out.

Another vote for the Miata. Driven the ND1 and the Gen1 BRZ. Would only take BRZ if it was my one and only car for practicality.

I understand that different strokes for different folks, so I am not challenging how you like the ND better than the GR86. But for me as a former Miata owner, comparing the Miata against the 86 era against era, I'd rank them like this:
NC > 1st gen 86
ND > 1st gen 86
2nd gen (GR)86 > ND
The shift feel is without a doubt superior in the ND and kinda meh in the GR86, but the overall package of the GR86 gives it a convincing win. The FA24 isn't quite as much fun to rev out as the ND2 Miata's SkyActiv, but it isn't a dog either. It also has gobs of torque, is still willing enough to rev, and is overall a significantly faster car than the ND is on and off track. Quote:

Like I said, if you need a whole car solution - GR86, the 2nd gen is quite a bit better than 1st gen. FA24 is less bad than the FA20 is, and yes probably is faster on track/off track. But Miata has a more fun feel, that's all it is.
Like I said in my earlier post, only car = GR86 no brainer.
Weekend/2nd car = Miata.

I was still in the process of dericing it. Literally one of the best 11k I've spent, the smiles per mile was unreal.... until you are stuck in traffic in 30C weather with your wife and there's no AC.

M3 was coming and I don't have a third parking spot. Plus the whole premise of the Miata was to get myself used to driving a RWD car before the M3. It worked as my only car (wife had a F56 Mini Cooper) and we would go to Costco with it. The tetrising was real, on the other hand it kept us in check not to buy so much junk when we went.

Again with the “other places are shit so random violence is ok here” | Well I'm not making that argument but I will make the argument that your perception of public safety in Vancouver seems quite out of line with the reality of public safety. Toronto has a murder rate nearly double that of Vancouver (3.0) and Montreal has a rate 50% higher (2.4) while Hong Kong is at the other end at .3 (so Vancouver is 5x higher than HK). (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._homicide_rate)
I haven't looked at all the data (months ago I asked about and poked around a bit) but I just don't see much that suggests the level of alarm and fear that you regularly talk about.

Is there a stat in terms of murder, violence, random attacks in Vancouver in the past 5 years say? I mean we can compare ourselves to Birmingham Alabama or whatever but most of us just use the eye test ... how have things been in the past 5 years here. Let's compare Vancouver 2025 to Vancouver 2020.
Damn ... it just feels like they are reporting more and more incidents in the news.

yeah but its all centralized in and around the downtown east side / core area. Like 99% of these attacks are in that area. You dont want cracky mcgee stabbing you in the neck? dont walk around chinatown.
There are other much more fun ways to die. Like come have tea in richmond and get plowed by some asian bitch who forgot which one is gas/brake.

For the parents out there:
Now is the best time to tie-dye shirts with your kids! Definitely a fun summer afternoon activity for the whole family. Mummy can prepare the ice-cold beverages, daddy can attempt to control the mess, and the kid will have a blast making shirts for everyone, especially if you help show the different designs you can make by changes in how you twist and bind the cloth up! Use the bathtub to dye in, easily cleaned for the most part.
9/10 family activity, highly recommended!
