Cantonese is definitely one of the most interesting languages in the world.

Heck, even Google translate has a feature where you can translate between English and Cantonese and vice versa.

It's more than a language though. It's part of the identity and culture of millions of Chinese people. -still the main language of Hong Kong, for now.

Cantonese has some of the most crude swear words in any language. :lawl:

DLLM Chau Hai!!! LUL

That's just one of the more common swear words in Canto.

It's like when a person goes full Canto swearing on another person, it's like "Fuck you, Fuck your mother, fuck your father, fuck your grandparents, fuck your ancestors, you smelly pussy!" :lawl:

Badhobz 09-03-2025 08:51 AM

i called this ah mo a chou hai in the ladys market, she fucking lost her shit.

spoon.ek9 09-03-2025 08:55 AM

one of my coworkers jokingly says "wai, chou hai!" as a way to say hello to us canto speakers

side note: all that for 20 HKD discount, well done hobz

Badhobz 09-03-2025 08:56 AM

the whole hat was only 40 hkd, so eat a chou hai bitch. I was gonna call the guy next to her stall a lun yueng but he looks like he's got knives and i really didnt want a pokeyman purse that badly.

spoon.ek9 09-03-2025 08:58 AM

I don't even negotiate with them. I just look at something I like, ask what the price is, say "oh" or "ha?" and then walk away. They immediately give you a better price lol.

Badhobz 09-03-2025 09:03 AM

wheres the fun in that? i go super agro mainlander and start yelling at them in Mandarin, Shanghainese and english... then slip in a diu...... say pok gei lo mei, mo gao yeh le

Please teach me your ways - I felt like a complete loser trying to haggle at SSP today with my CBC canto. One vendor even started responding in English :okay:

I would respond in kind in Canto to that vendor. If it's a Chinese uncle, go aggressive in your reply like what Hobz says.

Say "Ah bak! Guangdong wah!!! Nai long ah, diu nei lun yeung????" The loose translation into English would be

"Yo unc, it's Cantonese. Are you deaf, fuck your fucked up face!"

If it's a Chinese lady, just use the variation and stay aggressive: "Ah mo, Guangdon wah! Nai long ah, Diu nei goh chou hai!!!"

Old aunt, It's Cantonese. Are you deaf?? Fuck your smelly pussy!" :lawl:

Then you include your price in your reply to lowball the vendor. LUL

Google translate is awesome. The Cantonese translation is spot on even for swear words hahah:

There was some place my friends recommended to me in SSP. It was basically an in-person Temu. Prices were rock bottom and I ended up with a lot of great deals!

Our boy Bic Baws is in HK right now. Someone hook this fucker up with some Chou Hai’s !!! I told him to go to temple street and play with some chickens but I don’t know where else to send him. I asked my wife, and she likes whose big balls? And then walked away uninterested…

spoon.ek9 09-03-2025 09:25 AM

It's crazy how obvious the "chickens" are on Temple street. Basically every door way there's 2-3 girls and a dude looking tough.

Badhobz 09-03-2025 09:26 AM

PSA, don’t call those dudes lun Yeungs and don’t haggle with the Chou hai’s

spoon.ek9 09-03-2025 09:29 AM

There are quite a few of those now - I'm pretty sure I walked into the one you're talking about (Sham Shui Po Gadget Outlet?). I was pretty overwhelmed by all the people and stuff there that I just walked out.

Everyone knows what they're doing, but cops can't arrest people just for standing by a doorway :lol

spoon.ek9 09-03-2025 09:49 AM

sounds familiar, it was pretty close to the MTR exit from what I remember. and yes, it was PACKED full of people shopping. staff had to ask people to move out of the way so they could restock.

since we are at topic of hk, this is famous.

Hong Kong ‘lawyer’ bailed in HK$80,000 champagne dinner dine-and-dash case
Man, 23, allegedly pretended to be a lawyer before leaving date to pay lavish Man Wah restaurant bill including HK$71,800 bottle of champagne
(that's 12k bottle CDN)

Police said on Friday that at around 10pm on Thursday, they received a report from the woman, who suspected she had been scammed after her date, whom she had met online, left without settling the bill. The case was listed as a “request for police assistance,” and no one has been arrested so far.

According to local media reports, the pair wined and dined at Man Wah, a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong hotel in Central.

They ordered the “Man Wah Premium Set Dinner,” priced at HK$2,388 per person, and a bottle of 2002 Krug Clos d’Ambonnay champagne, which cost a jaw-dropping HK$71,800. The total bill, including a 10 per cent service charge, amounted to more than HK$84,000.

The woman, 31, met her date, a man around 26 or 27 years old, who claimed to be a lawyer, via messaging app Telegram, local media said.

According to HK01, the man excused himself during the dinner and never returned to the table. The woman failed to reach the man and eventually settled the bill with help from friends.

So the chick had to call so many friends to pay.
She filed for a police case.
Then cancelled.
Then went back in the morning.

We all got pic of the guy but i wont' post it here, he's some sort of 30 yr old kid.

Badhobz 09-03-2025 10:02 AM

Bic baws!?!?!!

I’ve had that set dinner, it wasn’t that great… not worth the money.

Poor judgement from the woman IMO. She really thought that she would have a baller treat her for a dinner at Michellin star restaurant as a blind date??? LUL

I thought that Honger women are smarter than this lady haha.

spoon.ek9 09-03-2025 10:06 AM

I read a recent story (9gag I think?). Some dude in China went on a first date and to his surprise, his date brought along 23 of her family members to test his generosity. The guy sat there for the dinner and then left them to pay the bill lol. Later on he offered a lesser amount to cover himself and the girl's food. Girl tries to sue and judge rules in favour of the man.

I think prostituion is not illegal in Hong Kong as long as it is the sex worker dealing directly with the customer. There are some other restrictions in place as well, but I think they pretty much boil down to it only being not illegal if it is happening in someone's private residence.

Laws around anyone supporting prostitution are extremely strict. I remember reading that in theory, even a laundromat washing bath towels for a sex worker could be considered as providing support to prostitution, and is in violation of the law. Pimping is also illegal.

Don't ask me why I know this. :lawl:

unit 09-03-2025 10:34 AM

how do you know this? :considered:
