Oh I didn't pay anywhere close to the listed price. It was on kickstarter and I paid $250 IIRC. I have a fossil too but that one stopped winding so it's just sitting.

It's not worth $799. The finishing is nice but the movement isn't the most accurate and I would have forgone the dual time as it's annoying to have to set it when the reserve is so low so you have to set it all the time.

I don't have a winder, and I left my regular go to watch at a friend's house.

bcrdukes 11-18-2025 09:34 AM

Oh, so yo guys don't casually rock Audemers Piguet Royal Oaks and Patek Philippe grand complications? :ahwow: :fulloffuck: :seriously:

Badhobz 11-18-2025 09:38 AM

AUDMAR PIG GAY Royal Broke and PA-THA-TEK watches are a mainstay of RS.

I mean, I can appreciate the effort and skills that went into making something like that, but damn that's garish.

unit 11-18-2025 10:29 AM

its pretty much just to show off your wealth for people worth 10s or 100s of millions.
even most athletes that are endorsed by them probably dont own those watches they are just paid to wear them and have to give them back.

even in pro cycling some of the best riders are sponsored by RM. its ridiculous seeing pogacar or van der poel wearing one of those while everything else they wear is fine tuned for aero/weight/comfort.

GLOW 11-18-2025 10:29 AM

speak english! i don't understand bougie!

I have no familiarity with that world, but I am surprised to hear that even the sponsored athletes aren't given a copy of the watch to keep (and wear). It's a frickin watch in this case, for crying out loud, and the manufacturer's costs couldn't have been all that much at all.

Seems rather cheap of the manufacturer to do that if you ask me...

unit 11-18-2025 11:22 AM

it's just a guess im not totally sure if they return them or not, but just based on the assumption that RM is not paying a cyclist nearly as much as the watch is worth every year just to have it on his wrist.
Even the best cyclists make like maybe 5m/yr +endorsements.. it's not as rich a sport as football or baseball.
i doubt RM is putting a 500k watch on their wrist and letting them keep it.

I used to hate smartwatches, thinking it’s just another junk to charge but I got my apple watch for free and now I cant go back. Really like the health functions.

whitev70r 11-18-2025 12:03 PM

Isn't there a thread dedicated to watches?

Holy shxt... I missed the point that these are $500k - $6M watches. But when they are so bloody expensive, why are they being given/loaned out to cyclists for wearing while they are competing in a race? Crashes are not uncommon, and I'd dread the consequences of having a $6M wipeout...

And as a pleb, I'd much rather buy 3 houses instead of having 1 of these $6M watches LOL~

I used to hate the smart watch when I had it in the past due to limited functions and annoying notifications I couldn't seem to turn off. But this was way, way back when it was the second gen watch. This new one is actually quite good. Customization of the watch face is excellent and plenty of free options to choose from.

Prior to all of this, I hadn't worn a watch since high school days. Back then I had a pretty neat stainless steel Timex with a face that could light up. Got stolen unfortunately but I still remember it fondly!

unit 11-18-2025 01:34 PM

im trying to reduce my screen time not have another reason to use my phone even more, so no smartwatch for me.

Badhobz 11-18-2025 01:41 PM

Actually with a smartwatch you use the phone less. Because you don’t need to even pickup the phone to do half the things like look at weather. Answer calls and texts, read emails. Etc.

Get one from Costco. Use it for 90 days and see if it’s your thing. If not return for refund.

spoon.ek9 11-18-2025 02:01 PM

checking things remotely is nice. bonus feature for me (probably not all you guys with newer cars) but I can control my spotify from my watch.

Dude what...? They're not wearing it during the race, the watch probably weighs like a pound or more lol. Performance hit!

They get it for publicity/TV shots when they're not actively competing. Like when they're doing TV interviews after a stage, they'll get handed the watch by a PR person who's responsible for the watch. Once the interview is done they give the watch back to the PR person who puts it in a safe. During the interview, the athlete will raise their hand to brush their hair back or something to show off the watch.

Just like F1, you'll see the podium finishers put on a watch as they take off their helmet and comms gear etc. It's with the towels and water bottles on those little portable podiums.

noclue 11-18-2025 04:17 PM

I remember lando norris got mugged and they took his richard mille. Wonder if mclaren paid the bill lol
