Funny fact: The kettle I just repaired was discontinued in North America a few years ago. It's not sold under a different brand in developing countries as the Aicok MK-H317E1B.

For those who are curious: The original kettle in question is a Midea MK-H317E1B. What's unique about it is that all the internals, including the lid, is stainless steel, so no plastic parts. It was the thermostat pin that broke, and required a replacement. The thermostat is made by Strix, model U1855. Strix hold the patent on nearly all cordless kettles. I found the thermostat on Temu for $2.

look at this guy with his hipster fuckin' kettle

You're counting on a Temu thermostat for a device that's plugged into AC?

Is your home insurance up to date?

bcrdukes 11-15-2025 08:18 AM

What’s insurance? :D

68style 11-15-2025 09:03 AM

It’s something you pay for religiously, but when you try to claim from it they find a million ways not to cover you before reminding you that you most definitely need it.

westopher 11-15-2025 09:58 AM

“Oh you missed the aftermarket kettle thermostat clause in your 687345 page policy agreement.”

bcrdukes 11-15-2025 11:05 AM

Insurance is a scam :derp:

Has anyone played around with Suno AI music? I asked it to produce me some afro beat tracks I can use during my workouts and wow, not only do the tracks sound real but they're actually really good.

westopher 11-15-2025 08:20 PM

Fuck ai music. That shit is despicable and just plagiarizing real artists. Everyone involved in AI should be boiled alive.

Manic! 11-15-2025 09:14 PM

I did a song for this video I made about makerspace Nanaimo using AI. ChatGTP made about 80% of the lyrics. Also did a french rap version. Making a song like this the old way would have cost me thousands. Without paying you can only generate 2 or so songs a day and no downloads. I just used OBS studio to record them.

This is a perfect example of how shitty AI songs can get, no offense

That shop looks cool though

I wasn't going to sing it myself. It took me less than 20 minutes to do. I prompted the English one to be spoken word. I know it sucks but this is the future. Tiktok style apps just full of AI slop.

SkinnyPupp 11-16-2025 12:59 AM

I'm sure it's fine for Nanaimo people

It sound sooooo stupid though, you have to admit 4Head

I mean it's pretty great for the application imo (and btw, cool makerspace!).

AI music seems fine when it's intended to be music as a commodity. Like when the intended purpose is background music that you're not really supposed to be listening to: informational videos, hold music, etc.

It doesn't sound like art because it's not intended to be art. Lacks soul. But that's fine, if that's not what the situation calls for :p.

westopher 11-16-2025 12:58 PM

People need to not consume AI. There’s no reason for it and it’s already destroying the planet. How you can use something that literally will end humanity and enrich the biggest fucking pieces of shit on the earth is asinine.
It’s like paying money to billionaires to give you poison.

N.V.M. 11-16-2025 01:32 PM

is it worse than that BC Securities Commission jingle I hear every fucking day.

Traum 11-16-2025 02:22 PM

Failbook has been feeding a lot of garbage AI videos to me lately, and it is really a major turnoff.

For the most part, the video looks very realistic. But then it is still bad enough in one or 2 places that has an absolutely glaring error that gives it away as an AI-generated video. If I hadn't spot that, or if it hadn't been pointed out by others in the comment section, then it could really have passed off as a real home made video.

Usually, it is a particular item suddenly appearing or disappearing.

I dun really understand why FB is allowing so much AI-generated content to proliferate on its platform. FB's original claim to fame is its unique ability to connect people, but the amount of AI-generated contents and bots these days is the precise opposite of that.

Damn all these low effort AI slop on facebook/IG/youtube. I hope they ban it from monetization which should get rid of it.

They don't let you block the accounts serving the media either which is dumb.

Thing is you can license music like that for hundreds, or less, and an artist gets paid instead of getting ripped off

AI will have its applications in the future; it will be pretty much needed as our population increases. But stealing art is the fucking stupidest use for it.

underscore 11-16-2025 05:14 PM

There's already loads of license-free music out there that you can use without paying a cent or using the planet-destruction-speedrun-plagiarism machine.

Harvey Specter 11-16-2025 05:17 PM

And speaking of AI slop, try searching YT for 3I/Atlas content. It’s 99 percent AI accounts pushing the content and getting tons of views.

underscore 11-16-2025 05:58 PM

YT search is basically worthless these days.
