Something big and depressing seems to be coming down the pipeline. Import and export Volumes are dropping significantly, seems like most people are not spending, and there is a big air of economic uncertainty floating around with that idiot down south making waves.

Not a single person inside no 9. Which usually has a few wackos who enjoy their overpriced rubbish.

One time we did a group lunch order from HK flavour. I ordered the "dry fried beef noodle". The meat was flavourless... If you're an HK cafe and you can't even make a common dish like that, you're a pretty shit cook.

We've been to Wasan cafe once so far and it was good. Reasonable prices and good portion size. They're new though, so we'll see how long these portion sizes last.

bcrdukes 10-21-2025 08:31 AM

Interesting how Wasan Cafe's Chinese characters read the opposite as "Sun Wah" :suspicious:

since the mobile phone thread is dead, I'm looking to get a Xiaomi 17 Pro Max on decent carrier. I see nobody offers this phone? so, looks like I need to pay the full price and get a carrier to connect? do I need an unlocked version?

It's only offered in China right now, so you'll have to import one from somewhere like AliExpress. I believe this also means you'll need to side-load Google Play Services and lose out on 5G.

The Xaiomi will work on all bands in Canada
https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency...aomi-17-pro-ma

This place in Canada sells it and will install the play store for you:

BIC_BAWS 10-21-2025 08:50 PM

Even if you sideload Google Play Services, I don't think you can use stuff like Android Auto. I looked into this recently, prior to my Asia trip, and ended up purchasing a OnePlus 13 instead.

djstyles 10-22-2025 09:26 AM

I can vouch for Mi4 Canada. So far I've ordered a Honor Magic V3, Vivo X200 Pro, 2 x Oppo Find N5 from them. They will even declare your item as a gift if you ask them to in the order comments.

Though I see in your quote, the x is missing at the end of the URL

Yah fuck you you nerd ! You can’t show actual data. Only conjecture and anecdotal evidence allowed.

On any given weekday, you can see gob tons of Ah Mo's, Ah Bak's (ie. older aunties and uncles), working age people, and even younger faces (ie. early 20's?) having dim sum and shxt at Chinese restaurants. I was at Richmond Center a few weeks ago, and the Lego store is packed with ballin parents buying big a$$ boxes of Legos for their 7 or 8 yrs old. Didn't someone recently say McArthur Glenn was packed with SE Asians?

I've always been under the impression that BC has gob tons of people that doesn't need to work.

So I actually grilled BDC on this data. I suspect big box stores is skewing the data upwards. In my experience working with boutiques across Canada, last year around this time a lot of mom & pop stores closed up shop due to not wanting to deal with politically uncertainty. I wouldn't be surprised if this trend continued to this year.

I imagine what happened is as small boutiques across Canada reduced their wholesale orders, the big box stores took an excess of inventory at a SIGNIFICANT volume discount (which doesn't help supporting SMBs) like pennies on a dollar type of shit, supplementing this stat. Further to this, it would be an easier buy for consumers to purchase these goods at a lower cost at big box stores compared to full price at a boutique.

I got cut short grilling the BDC guy lol

While BC retail sales doesn't give an indicator across the nation. Employment in BC increased about 1.6%, comparative to Ontario that lost 40% (mfg).

Here's a dump of more graphs.

We talked about AI implementation somewhere, BDC reviewed it's implementation in SMBs. Here's the stats.

B.C. is strongest retail in Canada? I wonder what the % growth YOY is for Canada and B.C.

mikemhg 10-24-2025 02:13 PM

I swear we live in a simulation.

I had never heard of BDC, and BIC mentions them on the forum yesterday.

I literally had a kickoff call today with BDC earlier this week, they're now one of our clients that I'm implementing into our platform.

Funny how that works.

Can't remember where it was posted, but I just learned that the Turntable Shop in North Vancouver is open again. It's been open for a while now. They moved. They're now at 120 E 14th St. North Vancouver. After the old man passed away, the guy who worked there decided to take over.

Crap, I just called. The shop has only been open for two months. New owner bought everything from the old business and he's been repairing equipment out of his home. I talked to Conner (new owner) and he sounds like a really nice guy. I'm hoping my vintage Technics SL-D2 can be revived. It has sentimental value. Anyway..............

Based on that, yeah, I think the way to go is to get a receiver to connect the speakers to and to connect your turntable into it. I don't think you need to go balls-out on a receiver given these are ceiling-mounted speakers, and you don't know what they are.

Your use case is simple enough where you can get a basic Sonos setup and it will more than satisfy your requirements with lots of room to grow. :)

The vinyl community has grown tremendously over the years which also meant new products to get into the hobby. You have lots of options and varieties to choose from.

Edit: If you decide you want help repairing the Technics receiver, try "The Turntable Shop" in North Van. The original owner passed away but the current manager, Connor, learned a great deal from him and is familiar with vintage HiFi repair. I knew the original owner as he helped me repair an old Technics turntable and vintage Marantz receiver way back in the day.
