Reps are suppose to qualify new customers based on a few different things. Kind of like how transferring the name wouldn't qualify you for the promo and swapping between people in the household wouldn't either. Its meant for people who haven't used Shaw services in a while as an enticing offer

Has this been a recent change? We were just swapping account names for the longest time, because that's what our sales rep guy originally told us to do.

noTirl 07-26-2016 07:44 AM

Obviously there are ways to abuse the system :P

So had a tech come out yesterday to diagnose why after upgrading to Internet150, the wifi was still only putting out 30mbps down and 6 mbps upload.

Tech informed me that the only way to access the full potential of Int150 on wifi is to be on 5G, if you're on 2.4G you're SOL and need to either upgrade your devices, or in my case with my laptop, get the 5G USB stick to "update" the wifi hardware.

Feel bad for the guy who came from Surrey just for that, when I asked him why didn't customer service just tell me this, he said "it's so new, they are just upselling the shit, they don't have any real 'technical' answers and the only reason I know is because you're the 3rd guy in the last week who has called us with this problem."

2.4Ghz wifi is shit, theres so much interference on that frequency that no matter how far i am from the router or what wifi channel i use, i can hit a max of 50Mbps on a good day. On the other hand my 5GHz connection i can consistently top out at 120Mbps on my 100Mbps connection. The down side is 5GHz frequency does not penetrate walls as well thus range suffers quiet a bit compared to 2.4Ghz, so i am running 2 routers at home.

Can anyone confirm that this works still?

TOPEC 07-26-2016 11:30 AM

It's an honour system. There is no real way for shaw to check if A Chan who has an account n is cancelling is related to B Chan who is a new customer under a new name starting a new account under the same address. Sales reps would usually look the other way as well cus they want the new sale.

Even on 2.4Ghz, you should be getting over 30Mbps though. I'm on Internet 60 and I get around 70Mbps on the 2.4Ghz bandwidth

Was previously on Internet 30 with Shaw but just upgraded to 150 yesterday. Speeds were considerably faster. I was downloading torrents, watching Netflix, and downloading games on my PS4, all of which I couldn't do with 30. Checked my speed with speedtest with no downloads, but was only at 30mbps. Pretty satisfied with what I'm able to do now, but I want faster =/

Nothing on shaw's website mentions that first year is $49.70. Where are people getting this information?

For those who signed up, can you confirm?

neggo 07-28-2016 02:06 PM

It says $49.90 for the first year right on Shaw's home page. It's pretty hard to miss.

mr_chin 07-28-2016 05:53 PM

I'm fucking blind as fuck

CRS 07-28-2016 09:35 PM

Just switched to this:
Internet 150 at $79.90 for existing customers | Shaw Wide Open | 150Mbps Speeds + 1TB Data

No regrets from Shaw Extreme aka Internet 30.

Shaw puts out a different ad based on your IP address.

If you load Shaw.ca on a Shaw IP address then you're going to get the $80 price for the 2 years.

If you load Shaw.ca on a Telus IP address then you're going to get the $50 price for the 1st year and the $80 price in the 2nd year.

Ohh, I was just about to post why is the price not showing on my desktop.

Just got off a chat with a rep and she said name swapping doesn't work if you wanna take advantage of the $49.70.

matter 07-29-2016 02:10 PM

I name swapped and got the deal. Just try another rep.

Did you had to cancel first and then sign up again?

matter 08-02-2016 11:18 AM

I cancelled afterwards. I think the rep just wants the new customer sale, so I had to cancel after the Shaw tech came and set everything up for the 150.

Manic! 08-08-2016 11:38 PM

Shaw down in Nanaimo and Duncan. Shae doing some updates. Frigging sux.

Obsideon 08-10-2016 09:54 PM

Shaw internet really slow in downtown, all channels on TV are out. :seriously:

fliptuner 08-10-2016 10:03 PM

Was on hold for 50 mins and said screw it. What a joke. They don't even have a call back option.

dn53 10-02-2016 01:38 PM

FYI my family has been a long time cust with shaw and was able to get onto 150mbps after reaching retentions with $25 off a month for the first yr (same as what is offered to new customers).

YMMV :)

We went from 15mbps to 150mbps.. sorry for the bump but i couldn't contain myself :lol

bluejays 10-02-2016 01:57 PM

One of my close friends works for shaw, feel free to pm me and I'll tell him to hook you up :)

thebrownboy 10-13-2016 01:59 PM

I work for Shaw as a Customer Solutions Expert so feel free to PM me for any questions on stuff. We actually just put out new offers last week. Some great stuff for Internet 60 without contracts for a year. Cable too if someone wants to get it for hockey season :)
