On Shaw Internet 50 and I am sure I constantly go over by a lot but never got ding for extra usage. Maybe is because I am still using their old modem? |
Slow as a dick fuck again. Going on and off |

mini bump my shaw has been shit lately. Torrents and speedtests still show that my internet is as fast as it should be, but loading websites is slow as hell Finally I fixed it (for now, anyways) -- I'm assuming it's because the DNS servers shaw assigns by default are crap. Anyways, I followed this guide: Speed Up Your Web Browsing in a Few Clicks: A Brief Introduction to DNS I downloaded the tool (it's a standalone app, so no installing) and it told me the closest DNS servers. If you have the Shaw modem/router log into it, then go to Setup, then Lan set up. Here's my new settings (and my internet is snappier, especially RS): http://i.imgur.com/LN8tzko.png The first one is openDNS, which was the closest. The other two are google's DNS servers, which pinged considerably higher but should at least be reliable |
anyone experiencing shaw being slow or down? internet and tv was down for an hr (kingsway and victoria area) |
internet was down a couple days ago but everything is fine now (Brentwood area) |
Change to google fiber super fast |
I've made a very interesting observation about Shaw speed. The company I work for has two branches, one in Burnaby and one in Nanaimo. There is a VPN connection between the two. The VPN appliance can aggregate multiple WAN links into a big fat pipe of data. Burnaby branch has Shaw50 as the primary connection and Telus6 as a redundant. Nanaimo branch is unfortunately only served by Telus and has a pair of Telus3 connections (limited by length of cable to nearest DSLAM) and one HSPA/LTE antenna. If I set the link aggregation to bias towards Burnaby Telus connecting to both Nanaimo Telus, I see average pings of 110 ms. If I set the link aggregation to bias towards Burnaby Shaw connecting to both Nanaimo Telus, I see average pings of 60 ms. Seems crazy that a Telus to Telus VPN is "slower" than a Shaw to Telus connection. |
Mine is absolute awful. Called them and they still haven't done anything about it. |
My shaw has been terrible lately. |
What pisses me off is, when Shaw is down, they refuse to even offer a single dime in refund credit. Paying for no internet, practically sometimes. I've been with Shaw for a long time and no budging in monthly fee negotiation with them. :fuuuuu: |
How long was it "down" for? If it's under 8 hours Id say that's a little much to ask for refunds. |

It's like saying, can you work all day, but we won't be able to "pay" you for a few of those hours today... |

Anyone else having trouble with their shaw email. All of a sudden, I'm being asked to enter password and when trying to login to webmail, authentication failed. I went into my shaw account and changed the password for that specific email but did not resolve anything. |
Anyone in south Burnaby notice the internet is gone? |

It slowed down to ~1Mbps for me a couple weeks ago in my area (Metrotown). After the second day I called Shaw and they confirmed there was no issue on their end. Magically after talking to them it was back to normal. |
