Had my first workout in 3 weeks after coming back from vacation and all.

Did some bb benchpress. Ended up failing on my last rep of last set and having to rest the bar on my chest because i got stuck. No one was spotting me or even close , so i ended up having to roll the bar down my chest, onto my waist, then onto the ground.

First workout after a long layoff always sucks ass for me. Just like last year when i came off a 3 week hiatus, i felt like puking during my entire workout

^ I know right, stick to the womens' only section if you're gonna be smoking hot. I don't go to the gym to check out girls.

Quick question for y'all.

I'm about to switch homes so I'm not going to extend my gym membership just yet. I'm currently running at a track nearby for fitness. Starting this week I plan to include some bodyweight exercises, including abs (just gonna do ab ripper x) and body squats. What other exercises would you guys suggest? I would add push-ups, but other than that I'm not too sure what else to do. Cheers.

^ Why not find a gym or community centre near where you'll be living? Much more effective than just doing pushups and body squats at home.

What's the deal with this 5x5. Supposed to be great for strength building? What exactly is the routine. I went to the website and it said to enter my email and it would send me the program but fuck that I don't want my email spammed. If someone could post it up for my viewing pleasure I will give you thanks.

Berz out.

Long story short, I live in Hong Kong, and may I tell you several retarded stories about gyms.

1) My own club house, you pay 4 bucks each time and you have to pay a membership fee. It's not exactly expensive but it adds up, plus the gym is tiny and has very little weights

2) "Community Centre", yeah we sorta have one, I went there once, you have to TAKE A COURSE with the HK gov. and pass it before you can use the gym. The classes are held somewhere else, costs quite a bit, and its during times where people work

3) My old gym membership, expired. You can't just join for a month, the more "Chinese" ran ones don't even have a set pricing list, you literally have to negotiate terms with them. It's fucking annoying, they continually try to make you sign three year deals, which I won't because who know when they'll go bankrupt, and the more properly run ones are on the other side of town.

At this point, I want to maintain a good level of fitness until I move to the other side of town with proper gyms. As of today, I play basketball regularly and swim as well, so cardio isn't an issue. I want to do some exercises that will work on my muscle and I've heard that bodyweight squats are quite effective. So yeah. HK takes an L on this one.

They're the worst in terms of negotiations, two people can have the same plan and one can pay 200 while the other pays 500. It's immensely retarded as well because they don't really do walk-ups. If you walked to their front desk they wouldn't know what to sell you and would make you call someone else.

Oh yeah they're also notorious for hard selling personal training while you're working out.

If you live in a complex with a clubhouse, chances are you can get a guest pass, the level of competency varies depending on where you live. Also, do check the surrounding area for sports centres (i.e. on HKgov.com), again, regulations vary.

side story: the community centre near me also had a bball court, at the time I went it was brand new, so I inquired about booking the courts. Response? "We're not renting them out for basketball, badminton and kung fu only, gov regulations"

I enjoy watching them checking me out more than I check them out

I got asked what I was "on" today at the gym lol. I said "Shitty diet, and lots of lifting"

I don't think they believed me.... oh well.

been doing 5x5 for about 8 weeks now, because they're compound exercises, i'd say they're more for functional strength.
It's key to begin and develop some raw strength before moving onto more concentrated/isolated exercises

"isolated" and non-compound exercises are more for "aesthetics" so to speak .

It's just the way I see it but correct me if I'm wrong please.

^ I agree with this. Though it's fun to go back to a few weeks of Stronglifts every so often.
