And yes, calories are important, but still not as important as what they are composed of. Ask anyone who has tried to lose weight eating nothing but rice crackers and water, and compare that to someone who goes on Atkins. The former is eating probably 500 calories less than the Atkins person, but is not losing any weight and is hungry all the time, while the Atkins person easily loses weight and is never hungry.
When I first started losing weight, cutting carbs helped out tremendously in getting lighter. Granted, however, that I went from literally being able to eat a whole rice cookers worth of rice in one sitting to a cup a meal.

But I always wondered about this...in documentaries like Fathead, they explain how carbs essentially contributes to the obesity rates in North America...but what about in Asia? They consume carbs on a regular basis but are seemingly never obese. I was in the Philippines 2 years ago and the amount of rice they eat in a meal is fucking mind-boggling, lol.

Are their obesity rates lower because they're more active? Or is it because of the portions? Or maybe I'm just making an assumption that obesity rates in Asia are lower?

^ Yeah, sorry to go off on a tangent but since it kind of already went off on one I decided to take advantage of it. We all do it from time to time, don't we? Thread-jacking without the intention to, that is. I guess Skinny or someone can PM me about my question or whatever to keep hal0 happy and to keep this thread on the right track.

Anyway, with the Banana Oat Protein muffins that RRxtar posted, I took a look through the guy's channel that he got it from and tried this

Looked fucking disgusting but was actually pretty good. I cooled it for a bit and turned out to be a nice dessert before bed.

The thing about obese asians is that they don't get as big. Just like a "tall" asian. One may be considered "tall" at 5'10" but compared to white people they'd be average.

So there are still plenty of obese asians, trust me, I see them every day here, but they are just not AS fat. Maybe they are also less common...

What IS common here is the 'pregnant male' look. Anecdotally, I think it is almost a MAJORITY of hong kong (and especially mainland) men over 40 who have a 'pregnant belly'. They aren't obese or anything like that, but have a huge round belly. Absolutely the worst, most unhealthy kind of fat there is, but it's extremely common. It's usually an indicator for diabetes, and often heart disease as well. This isn't too surprising since so many of them smoke cigarettes all the time.

Also some people tolerate carbs different than others as well. Some are 'built' for having extremely good insulin response. That's where insulin sensitivity becomes important.

one note about asians eating carbs is i would venture to say while their carb macro ratio might be higher, their overall caloric intake is probably a lot lower. they may eat rice often, but their plates are significantly smaller.

Use leftover rice, fry in pan with small meat/veggies of your choice, egg (optional), some oil, and garlic salt.

Leftover rice = day old rice (leave it out so it's at room temp).
Even then, the rice should be cooked well on the day of making it, i.e// not overly moist, soggy/dry)

The egg should be among the last thing. Make an opening in the middle of the pan, drop in the eggs. Let it cook a bit, then scramble a bit, then mix it into the fried rice.

Add soy sauce and s&p to your liking. For Garlic/shallots, I like going with the real stuff, but minced up or in a paste (if you have the tool)

For veggies, I tend to use frozen mix for convenience (peas, carrots, corn), maybe shitaki mushrooms if I feel like more work.

For meats - they often use Chinese dollar brand sausages, or BBQ chicken from the meat markets.

Since we're trying to go for healthy, sub white rice for brown. More veggies. Sub typical meats for crumbled up meatballs that Halogod buys?
