My wife is absolutely addicted to One Piece, and you see merchandise everywhere, so I think it's the biggest one right now.

StylinRed 02-16-2012 06:37 AM

holy shit they're still making One Piece?! i never liked it but damn how long has it been over 10 years? :fulloffuck:

SB7 02-16-2012 06:37 AM

Go back and watch some classics? Samurai X and Kenshin, Neon genesis evangalion, Trigun

Perfect Blue is a pretty good mindfuck movie. If you feel like watching a different kind of series then try Nodame Cantabile or Beck. Bleach is OK for the first couple of seasons minus the annoying fillers every other season.

Also death note, Great teacher onizuka (live action is pretty funny too) And the movie, and if you want to watch something old and nerdy but pretty interesting check out Hikaru no Go

Check out Death note, you won't regret it.

gdoh 02-16-2012 08:23 AM

naruto shippuden is prolly one of the best imo the fillers dont last that long
kenshin is good, ninja scroll is an awesome movie, gantsu was pretty good

someone recommended me black dynamite

i couldnt get into one piece and bleach was good until the fillers

iwantaskyline 02-16-2012 09:21 AM

Watch Another.

Excellent horror anime.

dachinesedude 02-16-2012 10:52 AM

which episode you at for naruto shippuden?

naruto is the only anime and manga that i follow right now, man is it ever good (other than fillers), the anime's gonna be EPIC once it catches up to where the manga is now

bleach hasnt been good since the rescue rukia arc, the story is waaaay too inconsistent, winter war was a joke

death note is super short, but good

yameen 02-16-2012 11:11 AM

hajime no ippo was the anime that i first started and the anime that got me into it. best anime ever.

Prolowtone 02-16-2012 11:36 AM

Another is a good new anime! Appleseed, Blood+, Canaan, Capeta, Cowboy bebop, Fate stay night, Gunslinger girl, Tegami Bachi (Started watching), Spice and Wolf, Wangan Midnight, Wolfs rain, Gundam Wing, Claymore and Rurouni Kenshin. Many others but thas plenty lol

Spartacus 02-16-2012 11:39 AM

^ Top 5 for sure. <3 Gintama & Steins;Gate

Maybe if you can let us know what genres you're into, that would help us make better suggestions.

Ghost in the Shell.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

+1 Hajime no Ippo

Some shows that only have one season, but are good because they wrap it up by the end:
Gungrave
Noir
Saikano

jonwon 02-16-2012 05:02 PM

akira, ninja scroll, neon genesis evangelion and i heard deadman wonderland was pretty good. and if you havent seen ninja scroll, watch that shit.

Neva 02-16-2012 05:58 PM

-ninja scroll movie (the series is terrible in comparison)
-beck: mongolian chop squad (wicked band/rl type)
-death note (awesome suspense thriller)
-time of eve (philosophic about what robot slaves would do in their off time)
-samurai champloo (hip hop meets samurai)
-afro samurai (sam jackson and samurai)
-evangelion (an emotional kind of series with huge robots and a lot of thinking)

Those are pretty much my standard recommendations and best that I've seen.

CorneringArtist 02-16-2012 06:03 PM

+1 to Evangelion, I'd probably toss Freezing, Battle Vixens and Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple in there if you want something with action and bitches. I haven't watched many new series lately, but Mahoromatic and Chobits were two I watched one boring summer, and I tried to pick up Azumanga Daioh, but ran out of time . However, I've heard good things about Clannad if you want something with a crushing amount of feels (ie. drama).

For left field, I'd even throw The Boondocks in there, even if it's not necessarily an anime and was US-made.

StylinRed 02-16-2012 07:30 PM

wow thanks guys ^^

I remember hearing a lot about death note but i never checked it out ill put that on top of the list :D

sounds like some of the older ones are still quite popular I dont mind revisiting but id prefer to see what i havent

as for Shippuden i think i stopped when the first filler arc came and i just switched to reading the manga i've actually kept up with it but as a result am not interested in the anime at all

I've actually seen Champloo thats in my list of favourites anything with a real serious, or dramatic+ adventurous side to it i like

I prefer shows that are short like 1 or 2 seasons

thanks for the suggestions ill be sure to watch their trailers and throwing them into my list :fullofwin:

someone told me about a show called Monster, it looks interesting but i havent checked it out yet have any of you seen it? any good?

nns 02-16-2012 08:08 PM

Ghost in the Shell is way, way more serious than any anime I've seen. There's plenty of action, but lots of heavy talk about subjects such as human rights, refugees, right vs wrong, politics, etc. Probably the most serious thing ever put into japanimation, IMHO.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You don't need to watch the movie before you watch the series (SAC).

StylinRed 02-16-2012 08:18 PM

yeah ive seen the movies i liked the first film but havent watched the series will definitely check it out though thanks :D

If you don't have time to go through the whole anime series (which I highly suggest you watch), watch the movie. This series is hyped into astronomical ratings for a reason.

If you're into giant robots, Eureka 7 is awesome as hell.

The first season of FMA in 2006 was nowhere NEAR as epic as this newer one, which followed the plot from the manga.

May look kinda gay, but has an awesome story on epic proportions. Code Geass

StylinRed 02-16-2012 09:47 PM

there's a new fullmetal alchemist? wth :crazy2: i saw the original back in '03 and always craved for more! thanks for the info :D

and yeah i saw neon genesis back in the day i understand the new ones are just cut up bits of the old series?

CorneringArtist 02-16-2012 10:06 PM

I think the newer ones are slightly altered from the original story? Minor character personality and background changes from what I remember. Solid changes for a re-hash though.
