the previous owner of my car still has his wing risers and offered to sell them to me, I'm a bit indifferent about them. I'm somewhere in the middle. If I do get them, I could be extra rice and wing mount my roof box with the suction cups I got...

do it!!! i want to be a poser and do the same with my road bike.

I hunted down the source of the coolant leak, I thought it was the rad but even with it removed coolant was still coming out. So I pulled the crossmembers and managed to get eyes on the leak. After pulling a ton of stuff apart, I got this out:

Which leaves the engine bay looking like this:

To get access to here for the stupid cap/hose:

Wow. It's actually just a rubber plug for a coolant port in the motor? I wonder what the original function was for the coolant passage.

bcrdukes 09-29-2025 02:22 PM

Not sure of this is the famous hose from hell or just a random plug from hell. :lol

immorality 09-29-2025 03:23 PM

No, the hose from hell and the hose from hell on earth are up behind the turbo and oil filter. They are much easier to access on a Celica than an MR2. Regardless, I keep thinking that I want another ST185 until I see stuff like this.

djstyles 09-29-2025 03:54 PM

Today was the perfect day to finally install an aftermarket steering wheel I had sitting around for the Miata. I tried my best to not break any tabs off of the steering wheel trim and I'm happy to report that I only broke one! :fullofwin:

It's the other end of the hose from hell. Normally there's a hard line that runs from the oil cooler (with the famous hoses that are actually easy on the Celica) that goes under the oil filter and wraps around the engine and goes to a small hose that goes where this plug was. I assume that one is easy on the MR2 but buried on the Celica because of the transfer case. When the shop installed my aftermarket oil cooler they deleted the hard line and I guess used this plug to cap the nipple on the back of the motor instead of removing the nipple and plugging the port in the block with metal.

It looks like a huge mess but it only took about 1.5hrs to remove everything with normal hand tools, and a good chunk of that was fiddling around to get the other hard lines out without removing the turbo, so I can replace the missing one and go back to the stock oil cooler.

Badhobz 09-29-2025 04:38 PM

It looks like a huge pain in the ass, but I’m sure it was very satisfying to be able to diagnose and fix it. I love finding a problem and solving it.

underscore 09-29-2025 06:48 PM

It was at first, I couldn't see where it was coming from at all so I had to pull the crossmembers off and even then I could barely see it from below. Reaching from above I scraped the hell out of my arm just to get one finger on it. The trick with these is don't try to squeeze into awkward spots, most stuff comes out easily so just keep removing things that are in your way until it's accessible.

Goddamn those seats and paint.

So when you are fixing the suspension and trim bits - how much of this stuff is available new/worth getting new?

Rims look like they were factory machined more than painted but that gets expensive

Parts are 50/50, cant find a coolant tank, easy to find the hood release latch, other interior bits non existent. Im doing a cheap "restoration" on this, trying to keep it under 1000$ for everything.

Correct on wheels, they are machined, but i aint paying 1000$+ to re machine them and clear.

Where do you guys find these and why, do you like stand outside a funeral home?

donk. 10-01-2025 04:58 PM

Retirement homes are GOLDMINES, all you gotta do is suck on some expired hags toes for a few minutes

SSM_DC5 10-01-2025 06:17 PM

:suspicious: the old hag's children already sold off personal belongings and pocketed all the money the moment they started the process to throw the hag into the home. DONK be sucking toes as a fetish instead.
