ANYWAY...:inout:

Did an oil change yesterday on the Corolla.

djstyles 10-03-2025 01:24 PM

Installed a Cusco rear shock tower brace on the Miata yesterday. I cut up too much of the trunk carpeting and now I really regret not reading the instructions beforehand. I think it still turned out looking okay though.:notbad:

Can you feel this one though like the front subframe braces?

I went for a long driver after install and I my answer would be yes, but to much less of a degree than the overall improvement the front subframe/shock tower braces made. I can feel that the rear feels more "solid" over rough pavement but outside of that I don't notice anything else. I would be happy with less flex and reduced NVH if nothing else.

red kryptonite 10-04-2025 10:06 PM

Isn't it bad to toss it on before 7C?

red kryptonite 10-04-2025 10:19 PM

i dont think its bad just not ideal...
i had free time today and my next few weekends is starting to look a little busy.

roastpuff 10-04-2025 11:54 PM

Spoiler!

So this POS, after repairing the coolant leaks, i got it driving, only to find out it has several heat soak issues.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...b42caf7a_b.jpg

Pulled injectors,
Spoiler!
most of them ohmed out poorly.
Purchased new ones, installed after nearly a day of diagnostics and messing around.
ONLY to find out the new injectors run worse than the old ones. How is this possible!?!?!?!

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...1341a652_b.jpg

Surely i missed something on re install. Went over the car several times, nope, nothing missing.
Only thing left was to re install old injectors and see what happens. Did that, old injectors run just as bad as new ones.

Pulled plugs, plugs ohm all over the place despite looking "ok".
Purchased and swapped plugs, with old injectors, car runs good when cold.

Round 3, swapped injectors back to new ones.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...53c6cf11_b.jpg

And the car is good to go! Starts, and runs way better than ever!

For some reason the AC was not working, little surprise for me

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...2357d914_b.jpg

Took it for a 30 min drive, ran good up until the last 10 mins, mother fucker started bogging, AGAIN

Who wants to guess what is heat soaking now?

underscore 10-05-2025 09:47 PM

It sounds like some sensor starts sending bad readings once it warms up. That kind of thing is always a pain to troubleshoot but maybe get it hot and try unplugging things and see what has no effect on how it runs?

Also consider pulling the ECU and opening it up. I know absolutely nothing about those cars but in Toyotas from that era the capacitors have started to leak or dry out due to age and cause problems for people.

donk. 10-05-2025 10:00 PM

Good idea, the car may have an exhaust leak, i think disconnecting the o2 sensors would be first.

Although it feels like a misfire more than all consistent bad ignition.

If its the ECU im getting fire insurance and you guys will see it on the news.

Man, this brought back memories.

My dad's first car upon moving to Canada was a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix which was pretty much the sister car to this.

Same V6 engine as well, which I did a ton of wrenching on when I was younger. Was always bemused at how slow it was for such displacement (~140hp stock I believe?)

Badhobz 10-07-2025 09:00 AM

the emissions regulations of the 80's and 90's really killed american cars of this generation. i recall seeing like a v8 making 150hp and thats the norm..... PISS

JDMDreams 10-07-2025 10:31 AM

Those 260hp V6 buicks in the late 90s 2000s were amazing when eg civics had like 100hp and accords 140.

I installed an upgraded Progress Tech rear sway bar today. The install was easy and straightforward as many RSB installs are. You can see how thin the factory RSB (black) is compared to the Progress one. What was surprising was how much flex the stock RSB has vs the new one, which has little to none.

Is a front sway bar upgrade also in the plans?

If you are only doing the rear bar, I'd be concerned about making the car too tail happy.

Try doing the front

On my MS3, doing the front means dropping the front subframe. Not sure if that's the case with a ND.

djstyles 10-08-2025 12:46 PM

Yes to both! The Progress kit comes with front and rear sways. I watched all the FSB installs on YouTube and realized the front sway bar install is way more work than I would like to do myself so it's getting installed by a shop on Monday.
