Replaced the original remote transmitter after 24 years. Dealer-only service option. :alone:

Got lucky with the Classic discount.

More than I can afford. :alone:

Installed the Acuity short shifter. This thing is pretty amazing. Install was straight forward, but a few things were a PITA (disconnecting the shift boot collar from the shifter, holy shit this thing is a bitch... had some challenge with the gear cable rod). But got it done, and no clips broken!

I can recommend you a much better place than DFC for servicing your Porsche.

I wasn't there to get service, per se. It was to get the transmitter replaced. There's some history behind the immobilizer which Peter Groenke made it easier to deal with

I normally would not have my vehicle serviced at a dealer unless I absolutely had to. I normally go to Mantis in Oakville and have been for many years.

This still looks a million times easier than doing a short shift kit on the stupid hitlerbox. All the linkages and cables are underneath the airbox. So to adjust anything requires you to get out, fuck around with Alain bolts, get back in the car and test it. It took me 8 hours to install a short shift kit cuz one Alan bolt too tight and I lost 3rd gear. Too loose and it’s sloppy as fuck.

God I hated my life. For those 8 hours. I almost gave up and was gonna just hire someone.

Japanese stuff just makes sense. You wanna fuck with your shifter ? All the essential components are right there. You can do it while sitting on the driver seat. VW ? Get the fuck out…..

I was considering upgrading my shifter to a Numeric unit or a CAE but holy shit, the amount of work and frustration that would ensue wasn't worth it. Even my race shop was like :fuckthatshit: and suggested I take the care somewhere else for the install. :lol

I remember doing an upgrade on my AW11 and SW20 - what a breeze.

I guess it depends which end has the slop and is where the mods need to go. Trying to do it at the trans seems like it'd be a pain in most cars.

Long story short I've been trying to find a cheap 04-08 TSX/03-07 Accord shifter to see if it's worth trying to modify an aftermarket one but man are they hard to find.

Aye, I considered doing the shifter cable bushings, but pulling out half of the engine bay (Had I known I would have done it when I installed the HVI) seemed like too much of a hassle for the benefit.

But working on Japanese cars for sure is infinitely easier than any German car. Looking at VW/BMW engine bays, it's as if they designed it so you are deterred from doing anything.

Badhobz 09-02-2025 08:16 AM

you didnt like the stock honda shifty feely ? its one of the reasons why you buy a honda! best shifters on the market with mazda taking 2nd and probably.... sigh... bitch ass beetle 3rd.

Everything else is quite sloppy floppy and lame.

AstulzerRZD 09-02-2025 08:50 AM

Who is saying they have good shifter feel?

BIC_BAWS will agree with me that the accuity shifter in FG2 AND the stock FK8 have a very loose side to side and plasticky feel to the shifter.

Stock GR corolla is far better.

bcrdukes 09-02-2025 09:00 AM

lol

Badhobz 09-02-2025 09:22 AM

What ?!?!? You smoking crack ? Can I have some ?

68style 09-02-2025 09:27 AM

The GR Supra shifter was pretty good, nicely weighted and tight although I’d say it worked so methodically well that it kind of made you feel like you were playing a video game not even really shifting actual gears.

OriginalJC 09-02-2025 09:34 AM

The stock FL5 shifter feel was really good. But now, besides the shorter throw, it feels like I'm locking into gear vs shifting into gear. There is zero slop.

68style 09-02-2025 09:41 AM

I think that’s similar to what I’m trying to describe it doesn’t feel like it’s connected to anything? Just moving it to a position and the transmission is just getting a signal or something lol

My favourite shifter out of the cars I own is my MR2 Turbo and it’s not modified in any way. The Miata is good too but not quite as snick snick.

underscore 09-02-2025 02:34 PM

I loved how the GR Corolla felt, getting back into my Celica the shifter felt like mush by comparison, even with solid bushings in the cable ends.

OriginalJC 09-02-2025 07:19 PM

How refreshing to be talking about car stuff, on a car forum :hotbaby:

Ya and I want what the journalists and FG/FK fanbois are smoking. I wish they were as good as they were hyped up to be.
I know u hate toyota and shit I do too but the GR Corolla is realllly good... it feels alive.

For me, gated manual and/or my s2k with a fresh shifter rebuild and full set of spoon mounts is the gold standard.
If anyone else wants to borrow the urea/shin etsu grease for s2k rebuild, i have more in richmond.

Badhobz 09-02-2025 08:28 PM

To be honest I haven’t driven the new gr ratrolla. It might be really good but the 3 cylinder turns me off along with the 60k price tag and the 20k interior. At least the CTR is a 60k civic with a 30k-maybe-35k interior.

I’ve had motorcycles that has more cylinder count.

AstulzerRZD 09-02-2025 08:30 PM

Yeah the numbers and performance suck but it has soul & character
Feels alive and fun in a way the FK8 doesn't when you're putting around the city

OriginalJC 09-06-2025 08:44 PM

Did a little wrap mod
