The realtor buying the condo with his client today thinks it's a really good deal. Were these buyers at today's "sale" shrewd investors?

poco has a few nice areas especially close to colony farms and the poco trail. super nice to ride bikes there and take recreational kayaks. the big downside is there is pretty bad traffic getting in and out.

Poco is the ghetto of tri cities. Its like the new west of vancouver/burnaby

No offense to anyone that lives there KEKW

JDMDreams 06-02-2025 08:30 AM

Still better than Surrey

New West is better than Burnaby (and I live in Burnaby)

i lived in new west and it's the only city i really miss living in

Hondaracer 06-02-2025 10:10 AM

What part of new west is better than Burnaby? lol

It’s all pretty ghetto imo. The “core” is hella run down and filled with drugs and homeless people. The outlying areas west of the core and Burnaby are all pretty run down single family homes. The brewery district and east of there is the only place with nicer homes and newer subdivisions and even it’s mostly run down and not very accessible in terms of shops and restaurants.

Quayside drive and everything that surrounds the tracks is OK but it’s all multi family and the detriment of the skytrain and railways.

To me, new west is one of the least desirable cities to live in on this side of the Fraser

westopher 06-02-2025 10:28 AM

Burnaby is by far my least desirable burb to live in minus being right near dear lake park. The Burnaby core/metrotown is the busiest and lamest place.
If you have a decent house in Burnaby and don't mind leaving I understand the appeal, but if you plan on actually spending time there and condo living it's crazy to me.

Hondaracer 06-02-2025 10:33 AM

North Burnaby/Burnaby heights is way nicer than any part of NW imo.

The area above Barnett is also pretty nice with nice neighborhoods but it’s mostly either old
Italians or offshore absentee owners

RICHMOND IS DA BEST!!!!

Safest city. no weirdos whiteys like jason around. Plenty of delicious eats and lots and lots of completely empty parks to walk your dogs in. Also, because of its central location, traffic isnt so bad unless you're taking the 91 to Surrey, then god help you. Going to vancouver you got 3 options for bridges so its quite easy.

Housing lots are big, neighbours are quiet, and due to the high number of ching chongs, nobody will ever bother you or talk to you. Higher chance of them crashing into you via their shitty driving than talking to you.

ohhh and i forgot this most important point! BEST FUCKING ROAD SURFACES IN THE LOWER MAINLAND!!!!

in my opinion burnaby is just a sterile suburban city with one thing going for it, its proximity to vancouver.
its cultural impact on the gvrd is literally zero.
at least new west has a small city feel and the residents are proud to live there, organize and show up for events, and the city has historical significance.

I don't know about Richmond being safe anymore when it comes to certain areas of that city.

-news reports about junkies doing drugs out in the open at the modular housing on Alderbridge Way.

This piece of shit was captured on camera in a parking lot trying to break into vehicles last month on Mother's Day in Richmond.

well of course every city will have some crime, im just saying compared to new west, or metrotown, or vancouver, its a haven.

GLOW 06-02-2025 12:49 PM

i always liked north burnaby to be my ideal spot to live if i had a choice, near confederation park

GS8 06-02-2025 01:22 PM

New West just isn't the same without Mugs 'n Jugs :QQ:

Poco (was nicknamed PoCompton) went from being a spectacular dump (I went to junior high there) to being a Burnaby by the Pitt River. Other than a few livable areas, it's neither special or interesting. It's just another suburban hub extension of Vancouver to get stuck in traffic and deal with weird hicks and / or homeless thieves.

The cities start great (Port Moody) and get progressively worse the more east you go KEKW

GLOW 06-02-2025 01:31 PM

i heard they reopened it a while back, guess it closed back down? :okay:

Nailed it. Burnaby is a great place to live if you're car centric and you like to leave it a lot because everything is close to it. The number of places you can be in 20-30 mins is long: both Ikeas, Lonsdale, Coquitlam Centre, Surrey, Richmond Center etc etc.

The highs of Burnaby are higher than New West - the Heights are generally great but that's really because it's built like an extension of Vancouver except worse in the details (like virtually no tree cover on its streets). The lows of New West are also lower than the lows of Burnaby - Queensborough is a dump for example and much worse than East Burnaby (which is also kinda lame). The mids are where New West has it all over Burnaby - Queens Park and Sapperton are nice neighbourhoods that has no equivalent in Burnaby because Burnaby only builds two types of housing: SFH with nothing near it or condos stacked a mile high.

Burnaby has no character - it's basically Langley with 2 skytrain lines going through it. New West has some beautiful neighbourhoods with character.

I have a pal, a fellow dad, that I hang out with every couple months who lives near Queens Park. All but one of our meet-ups have been in New West or Vancouver b/c there is fucking NOTHING in Burnaby worth going to for a few drinks and nice food. As Unit says, it's a sterile suburban city. Zero culture, zero character.

One of the meetups I had with my pal was by New West station - a Mexican place called El Santo. It was awesome and Columbia street had a buzz about it that I've never seen in Burnaby. It sorta felt like I was in downtown Van - it was COOL. There are nearly no restaurants or areas like that in Burnaby - it's either cheap Asian places or the chains.

1000000%

Hondaracer 06-02-2025 04:04 PM

Yea actually that area between like 6th ave and Queens park is actually pretty cool some beautiful old homes there.

If you own an old home and ever want inspiration for colors schemes go walk around there

I dunno, Brentwood seems pretty great. It's like a happy daytime Coruscant. AND there's a Costco right around the corner!

Brentwood is miserable. It's nice maybe 2 or 3 months out of a year. In the winter it's wet. The way the buildings are laid out causes a funneling effect and the wind just whips around stronger than it should.

In the summer there's barely any tree cover and you are just getting cooked on the hot pavement.

New West has so much character. Never lived there but there is so many beautiful spots.

Poco has some nice residential neighborhoods. But it’s way too white, coming from a white guy. lol. We loved where we were though. Lots of nature.

True story: When I was 19 (30 years ago) my buddies and I went to the Paramount and lo and behold one of the strippers was a girl from the grade ahead of me in high school. She recognised all of us during her routine came down into our area, moved my table out of the way and proceeded to give me a lap dance during her routine.

Great place, 5/5, would go again.
