you gotta try it! my big disappointment was trying mcdicks in HK. it was terrible. even the McFish was terrible.

BIC_BAWS 10-14-2025 09:07 AM

So apparently KFC buffet in Asia is pretty good, but I tried the chicken a la king on rice and this frozen tart thing. It's ok lah. A bit too salty for me, but it's different and mostly edible?

I didn't try any of the sandwiches. Well I had a sausage and egg mcmuffin when I was drunk and that tasted as it does here. Surprisingly I didn't shit myself.

Maybe that's where you fucked up. You didn't order the grilled McThighs.. those were DELICIOUS. Better chicken than KFC. JUICY. MOUTHWATERING.

The McD drinks like McCafe or whatever are atrocious and the only plausible thing is the smoothies or fruit punches. The fries are also undercooked - this happened a few times so I'm convinced they just run it for the 3.5min cycle, and not the extra 1.5min crisp cycle.

Are you sure you are white? How are you contributing to this fast food in HK discussion? :rukidding:

Mcd in HK used to be good, I'm not sure what happened to them, probably covid. I have to say for the basic menu stuff, Canada McD is probably top on my list for quality. Japan McD was terrible as well.

JDMDreams 10-14-2025 10:17 AM

Japan mcd was ok they have flavours we don't have here. Better than KFC Japan. And I still dunno how I feel about most burger. It tastes the most fresh? And home made under seasoned.

Badhobz 10-14-2025 10:25 AM

white not only married a chinese broad, he adopted her culture and mannerisms. soon he'll be the white guy walking around saying diu to all the ah mo's and ah baks.

AstulzerRZD 10-14-2025 11:08 AM

delay no more!

BIC_BAWS 10-14-2025 11:20 AM

+1 on Japan McD being awful LOL. I had their shrimp nuggets. awful. One of the specialty burgers was ok, but I feel like when 7-11 is outstanding, ok is bad.

And COVID seemed to impact the quality of a lot of HK places, one place in particular Cafe De Coral.. the quality is so fucking bad. And imagine forgetting to do an order bc FOH doesn't communicate with BOH. My parents waited like 25 mins lmao. It was 10-15 mins normally for order to order pickup, which is kind of ridiculous for "Fast food". Another place is Hang Seng bank which my parents waited several hours at because the employee (the one FI manager or smt) was busy walking a lang lui how to use the bank app instead of pushing her to a teller and moving the line along. Wasn't till my parents threatened to report them to their managers (lmao) did he really speed things along (in English too cause they wont give a fuck if ur not a foreigner).

EvoFire 10-14-2025 11:52 AM

Hang Seng got bought by HSBC, everyone there is probably dum bor jung waiting for the other shoe to drop.

bcrdukes 10-14-2025 11:52 AM

Can we expect whitev70r to one day hang out at Richmond Centre doing tai chi with the seniors and then going to McDonald's or the bakery there to grab an HK milk tea and egg tart to shoot the breeze with his Chinese buddies?

whitev70r 10-14-2025 12:27 PM

^ Already am.

All banks in HK is slow, some how a developed placed that like as a financial hub, ppl are ok waiting an hour in line at the bank to deposit withdraw cash. They still use pass books and some how close at like 4 pm.

yray 10-15-2025 12:00 AM

slow because you are poor

unit 10-15-2025 08:12 AM

spending time with my rich friends in hk we went up to the second floor where there is no line at all. asia always has all sorts of vip stuff for the rich.

AstulzerRZD 10-15-2025 08:35 AM

Asia has too many VIPs - can never get Marriott suite upgrades even with Titanium Elite.

HSBC skip line thing is kinda hard, it's like 1M USD in HK alone.
Chase Private Client is a lot easier, 150k.

That one year I had Emerald status with 1World airlines was sweet.
JAL, BA, and AA have private check in/immigration lounges.
JAL's F lounge also had Hibiki 21 and a decent omakase.

For Prada / Miu Miu, 10k spend in a year gets you on VIP list.
Still have to ask but can usually sit down in the private room if it's not busy.

My favourite tho... was finding a asian chef uncle in NYC to cook my meal prep and shit for me.
Now I can enjoy my weekends!

https://www.burnaby.ca/our-city/news...d-developments

Burnaby has changed their residential zoning to reduce the size of how big houses can be built and they increased the parking requirements - the changes are so significant that most residential home development will no longer be profitable. It's total bullshit that they're caving to a bunch of NIMBYs.

Quote:

Height and size reduced

Under the City amendments, building heights will be reduced from a maximum of 4 storeys to 3 storeys (and 10 metres). Rear principal buildings will be limited to 2 storeys in height, and the achievable floor area of projects will be reduced 33-60% depending on the housing type, unit count and lot size.

Lot coverage reduced

Maximum lot coverage is reduced by 5% for all housing types and by 10-15% under certain conditions.

Parking requirements increased

Parking minimums will increase from 0 to 0.5 spaces per unit to 0.67 to 1 space per unit, depending on the housing type and overall unit count. However, Provincial legislation limits the City’s ability to enforce parking minimums on R1 lots located in transit-oriented areas, which accounts for approximately 57% of the City’s R1 lots.

bcrdukes 10-17-2025 11:44 AM

Rear principal building - is that the same as a garage? Or does that imply a laneway? (Are laneways even allowed in Burnaby?)

Yep, when Burnaby rolled out their new R1 zoning (the default for all residential land) it abolished the notion of a laneway and replaced it with "Rear Principal" building as the back unit could be built as big and complex as the front unit.

This new zoning change kills the idea of a rear principal building and basically reduces the back unit back into a laneway but they're not going to call it that.

JDMDreams 10-17-2025 12:27 PM

There's just a few new builds being built in bby. It's 2 giant 3 level duplex front and back. So 4 duplex units on 1 lot. First floor is separate entrance rental. $1.7 each.

Traum 10-17-2025 12:33 PM

While I agree that the Burnaby-imposed changes will likely kill all the profitibility for for developers to build density at the R1 lots, in Burnaby's case, I feel like most of their density increase attempts are focused around high rises and larger medium density builds (eg. townhouse + apartment complexes).

In Burnaby almost all development is focused on high rises - the % of homes that are townhouses or family sized units (3 bedrooms) is really, really low because they zone either for SFH or high rises.

Burnaby gives off the impression of building a lot of housing b/c of all the construction at the town centres but it trails Vancouver and Surrey by a lot and has been trailing those two cities for decades - only in the past couple years has their population growth (by percentage) been higher than Vancouver's. Considering it has two major transit lines and highway 1 passing through it the city should be building WAY more housing but the residential zoning is really restrictive and that's most land.

noclue 10-17-2025 12:59 PM

Will that stop the buddy guy mansions?

I cant think of anywhere else in the world where a multimillion dollar house has 2 mortgage helper suites and a laneway suite for extra income.

JDMDreams 10-17-2025 01:04 PM

^^ 2 mortgage helpers are for losers, have you seen the new builds, 2 basement rentals and laneway

PeanutButter 10-17-2025 02:38 PM

Just got this email for some left over units for sale by Queen E Park in Vancouver.

On the price sheet it says, "RBC Blanket Appraisal". Does that mean whatever price you pay is what they will approve the mortgage for? And if so, is that normal? What if the price becomes less than, will they still fund you for the entire amount?
