1) parents to blame not just the girls but the parents of the bullies there should have been better parenting with regard to insuring your kids aren't acting as bullies and when it comes to parents knowing/understanding/and controlling their kids day-to-day goings-on (prevention-mitigation education etc)

2) stalker & bullies are to blame for obvious reasons (stalker should get curb stomped) and the pussy that took her virginity and wasn't man enough to stand up to his gf should get beat

3) girl is to blame as "bad" as that is to hear/read you can't escape the fact that she should have known her actions had repercussions and she should have been prepared for them (parenting fault too)... granted she is a troubled youth and very young so she probably didn't know better but that's aside from the point

In light of this tragic event, I think it would be fitting for Revscene to remove this from the smilies: :noob:

I always thought that thread was a cyber bullying thread, and this event just makes me think of it again. He may have acted like a douchebag, and acted out against Revscene, but what does it say about us to mock him and bully him the way we did?

Bradford is no longer on RS and neither should his picture.

I didn't read all the posts so forgive me if I'm just repeating something already said. Bullying gets so much attention right now, and the attempts at educating people that this behaviour is inappropriate is a step in the right direction, more focus needs to be brought to educating the victims of how to remove themselves from the situations. NOT saying that the person on the receiving end is by any stretch of the imagination is at fault, but it seems that the victimization of them is sometimes only causing more helplessness. A fight back attitude with a "living well is the best revenge" ideology needs to be really put in front of these kids, because for every person out there that will rag on you, theres someone else out there who needs a friend, and will be yours right back, and united we stand is a saying that holds true when you meet real friends. Teach these kids there is more to the word than Facebook. Turn the fucking computer off! Spend time with your friends in person. I think most of us on here have been bullied at some point in our childhood, and it doesn't take a genius to see its a lot harder for someone to get over it when its coming at you all day over a computer, but some serious education to explain to kids internet=life is a terrible way to live, is becoming dangerously important.
As someone who has been affected quite substantially by suicide, I certainly feel for her family, and all one can do when something like this comes to light, is hope that the knowledge gained from it can save someone else from the same situation, on both sides of the story.

Bullying is social pressure.

Your immune system defends against disease,
your self-esteem defends against ridicule

How do you prevent more suicides and angst?
Help people develop their character.

I was a piece of shit thugged out homie for awhile growing up, why?
My parents neglected me and I was homeless as a teenager.
I'm lucky to be alive given my state of affairs as a youth, glad I made it through that living hell. The only thing that saved me was becoming violent, and instilling a sense of pride in blooding up someone's face if they dissed me.

It wasn't the right way, but the only route I had

RIP Amanda Todd, I'm sorry your friends, family, and parents didn't help you love yourself

Even with improvements in depression and reduced suicidal ideations, attempting for complete suicide is still a possibility.

What reinforced her depression or triggering her negative perception/schemas toward life is facebook. I have no idea why the psychiatrist did not tell her to stop using facebook. Without facebook, she will be less likely to trigger these negative schemas leading to depression thus, suicide.

You are mixing a metaphysical problem with a psychological problem of today's youth justifying with medical oversimplification of the human immune system. Did I get that right??

I used to get picked on by "Thugs" like you all the time let me tell you if think bullying works like the human body as you described? you are partially right, But it doesn't build the person up being bullied it shields (The Bully)your own ego and pride until one day your "immune system" runs down and you realize you ain't shit and what pride you had never held any merit. So now what? Who can you blame now?

You think you are developing "Character" and "Strength" By belittling other people because you own short comings? Think you did the world a favor? And blame your parents for not being around @Xmas?

Grow up.

Too sad but bullying seems like one of those things that has and will always be around. Not sure what the answer would be but educate comes to mind. Educate kids on what bullying really is and the consequences of it, maybe even make punishments a bit harsher if it helps. But i think a big part is to also educate kids about the consequences of their actions in general like what it means to put something on the internet (pics of yourself, statements towards others and so on). Things have changed where 14 year old girls are already "hooking up" with guys and this means that education needs to come earlier. I don't get what the trade off will be though, on one hand kids will be kids but on the other hand, where do we step in.

I totally hear what your saying. This hit so close to home for me, I honestly wish I had heard about her before she took her life, I would have reached out to her. What she had to go through is really fucked up, she needed someone to talk to.

I'm just thinking the cops were involved because she said the police knocked on her door at 4 am to tell them the picture was posted online. I would think knowing she was in grade 8 and the picture was taken when she was in grade 7 that that would have gotten the ball rolling and the police should have started to investigate who took the picture and if they were the same people that posted it online.

My reasoning is that, if that was done, a lot of the future bullying including the fake facebook account with the pic of her boobs as the profile picture wouldn't have happened and maybe she would not have killed herself.

I'm just guessing, but...

I think so many teens have camera phones now, that if the police investigated every time a naked underage photo leaked out, they'd be swamped in cases so fast.

Shit, who here hasn't sent a dick shot out, or received tits and/or vagina from women in their 20s and 30s? Multiply that by how dumb high school girls are and how eager they are to flash and get attention from popular boys. I bet it happens so often the police would have to jail half of this province's population under 18, haha.

Actually, I was going to bring this point up. It is much to easy for kids to take and post pictures of themselves and they really need to learn that pressing delete doesn't mean those pictures are gone once it get's onto the internet.

That being said, I see your point about the police and underage photo's but I would have hoped that in this case they went to the girls house at 4 am so I would have guessed they had to do some investigation to find out who she was and where she lived. That should have gotten the ball rolling.

Just guessing here, but if that photo had been passed around to hundreds and hundreds of teenagers, how do they even figure out who to charge? Everyone?

Although, I'm beginning to think the next generation will see nudity as so passe. Nobody will be afraid of uploading nude photos of themselves because the reaction to seeing naked bodies will be along the lines of "so?"

Shit, just the other day I was at a restaurant talking to this cute 24 year old waitress. My friend and I were laughing about sexting and she asked us about the latest photos we had sent/received. By the end of the evening, she sent me a photo of her vagina and I texted her a pic of my dick. We laughed and complimented each other before I paid the bill. She has a bf and I'm seeing someone, so it was a nice piece of masturbation material and neither of us are interested in anything more than nude photo swapping. That's just how casual some people are with nudity these days, and I think it's getting even more casual by the month.

I actually kind of get what Jason is trying to say. It's happened in the past, it will happen in the future, and like it or not, its a part of growing up.

Basically?

I think the difference is: computers. Cell phones. All of them lead to a constant barrage of vile things and negative messages that hurt the victim the same as if they were said to their face, but shield the attacker by just printing words on a screen.

Plus, we're talking teenagers. There is ZERO sense of forward planning, and minimal sense of thinking about the possible outcomes of their actions.

What do kids want? Approval, and a sense of belonging.

What did this girl not get? approval at home, and a sense of belonging in the world. The worst thing a person can say is "I'm alone."

You can't just say that bullying is a part of life, grow stronger for it, not when kids are starting to off themselves. I was bullied in school. I was the smart kid that didn't know how to relate. Boom. I was different, and some clothes and a hair cut weren't going to change it.

I finally adapted by stopping the attempts to hide what I was capable of, and dumbing myself down. I learned to become a word smith, and cut to the core of a person with one sentence. I did learn that sense of defense that instead of trying to act like one of them, I went the other way and just proved that I wasn't. If you want to make fun of me, then at least do it for the real me.

BUT...I didn't have them piping messages of hate into my home. I dealt with them for 8 hours a day. Then I went to my life, and they went to do whatever dumb inbred hicks in the backwoods of Nova Scotia do for fun.

It's bullying shell-shock. It's new and its different, because it doesn't stop for these kids and it doesn't go away.

That's fucked up man,you lived a hard life, glad you turned it around and made something out of it.....good for you.

In my late teens and mid twenties,I was a really angry and violent person( I even started working out and taking juice just so I could be bigger and stronger and do more damage to people in a fight),when I started to get older I toned down that negative behavior.I was a thug at a really young age and I will admit it,I'm still a thug now, just a more mellow version of my former self.
