M4 Liberty Walk Decal repairs Hi Everyone, I would like to share with you guys, my step by step process of fixing this damage decal. I received this GT Spirit Liberty Walk M4 (Blue Asian Version a few weeks ago). When I opened to see if there were any damages to this M4, I saw this. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psvle9sbey.jpg Damaged Decal The Liberty Walk decal somehow folded up during the clear coat process, and it got past QC. Which to me thinks it is a joke sometimes. I immediately contacted the reseller, in which they contacted GT on my behalf. And GT customer service quickly rectified the situation by air mailing (at their cost) the decals to fix up the problems. I received the decals this week, and I finally had sometime to fix it up last night. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7fkkswyo.jpg Replacement decals So how to fix up this decal? Once the decal has been placed, it is often sealed with a clear coat (I assume GT uses a urethane clear) it is really hard to remove them. You only have a few options (depending on the level of damaged to the decal) 1) Use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. Using a q-tip you can slowly and gently rub the clear coat off the sealed damaged decal, and afterwards slowly chip away the decal with your finger nail. Be very careful of this process, as you may damage the paint below the decal. I've never personally use this method before, but I've used 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to strip paint of a resin model successfully. I've read somewhere online that this method works. 2) If the damage is not that bad, you can gently use a hobby knife to slowly chip away the decal. Again be very careful using this method. In my situation, I used this method. After carefully examining damage decal, I noticed that I can use the tip of a sharp hobby knife to slowly and gently chip off the damage fold on the decal. I didn't want to completely remove the whole decal, just the damaged area. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psl6keuszb.jpg Slowly removing damage decal. Once the damaged pieces were removed, I just simply applied the new decal over the original decal. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psnxb7tcbr.jpg Soaking decal in warm water. Repaired done. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...pskv0lcogl.jpg The decals that GT uses for their cars are very thin and fragile. I didn't want to over handle them. I did my best to align and place the new decal on top of the existing. I also didn't want to use MicroSet decal solvent on the new decal as I don't know how it will react to the MicroSet. And looking from afar, you would not have noticed that the original decal was damaged. I'm pretty sure that there are many ways to fix this, but based on my past experience building models, I thought this was the best method. BTW, I know Testors has a decal remover agent, but I've never used this product before. If anyone has any past experience fixing up or removing decals from a diecast model, please share. Lambo Huracans Finally arrived! Hi Everyone, My two Lamborghini Huracan's by Kyosho's Ousia series finnally arrived!! I ordered two. One Red and the other Black. These are my first diecast cars from Kyosho Ousia Series. When Kyosho introduced the Ousia series last year, I was kinda skeptical about the quality and finish for a diecast metal car at $99.00 USD ($140.00 CDN). After reading reviews about their Veneno, and the positive reviews it got, I figured Okay let's give it a try. The car shipped in a decorative package with clear windows on all four sides. The car fastened to the base with four screws. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...pspjcpxnk2.jpg I must say I am pretty impressed with the quality and some of the details. My first reaction was, hmm this does not look like a $99.00 USD car. The panel lines for the doors, trunk and engine hood is to scale. The overall shape and ride height of the Huracan is looks correct. Real car side view http://st.motortrend.com/uploads/sit...-side-view.jpg Kyosho Side view http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psojhldveu.jpg After releasing it from the base, I thought the car might have some weight to it (similar to Resin cars), giving the illusion that it might. But for me, it feels light. Not plastic light, but light. Does it feel like a toy? Not really. But it definitely does not feel cheap. But its does give the impression of a high quality product. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psmcehjtm8.jpg Knowing Kyosho's past history of paint rash, I feared that my Red Hurcan may have this, and it does not. The red paint finish on the Huracan exhibited no orange peel. Not too thick. Just right. Although there are two areas that QC did not catch. Looking from afar, the untrained eye would not notice this, but us detail oriented collectors will see it upon further inspection. I think this is just a one off. I checked to see if this was on the Black Huracan, but the paint job on that one is flawless. See if you can find the two area. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psivsewmz3.jpg Interior of the car is done correctly, but i feel a black interior is kinda blah...Why not a tan interior? Something other than black. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...pskaqs1oxe.jpg The engine detail is alright in my opinion. Kyosho could of used a bit more colour to make the engine standout more ie: use more metallic paints. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psboxbnif2.jpg Brakes and wheels are nicely detailed, but don't expect PE parts used to enhance the look of the brakes. But, if you can disassemble the wheels and brakes, you can add detail to enhance the look. On the black version, the red brake calipers looks really nice. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psm29tthd6.jpg Red http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...pssf6nluin.jpg Black Overall impression, I think Kyosho's Ousia series, is pretty good for the money. And the Huracan is a good example of that. Does it have it's flaws? Yes. But which model doesn't? In my opinion, the overall quality and value of this Huracan, fills in the gap between Maisto and MR or AA. I like the black version more. It screams Batmobile. I have the Aventador SV on order, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Please enjoy pic. And Comments are welcomed. http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psuvemuubw.jpg http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psibxjvaim.jpg http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...psuvemuubw.jpg http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...pscrezjdzt.jpg http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/...pscvkxvu4v.jpg Thank you, William Happy Collecting! |
I don't really collect diecast models but I want an auto art R34 GT-R, which is one of the rare good ones? |

I love autoart too, 90%+ of my collection is autoart. But if you want the iconic midnight purple GTRs, autoart one doesn't look like a midnight purple (well it's midnight purple 1, which is like normal purple). Looks pretty meh, I visit their showroom in HK from time to time. I'd love to get a Midnight Purple III from Ignition. http://media.voiture-miniature.com/i...%20III%202.jpg |
