Samsung’s next flagship Android device – presumably called the Samsung Galaxy S IV – is inevitably coming. It’s been rumoured that we’ll see it coming with a 2.0GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 13MP camera and 4.99-inch display running Android OS 4.2.1. Today there’s a few fresh rumours that has arrived online.

1. Reputable blog SamMobile has reportedly posted what could be the Galaxy S IV. They note that “a huge tip from our insider at Samsung and according to him this is the next generation of the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S IV.” The overall design, pictured above, is a cross between the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Premier and notedly missing is the physical home button and will apparently be thinner.

2. The official Samsung Lebanon Facebook page answered a question about the pending release of the GS IV, stating “The Galaxy SIV won’t be released before May 2013.”

3. Samsung’s Vice Chairman Jay Le will be showing off a prototype of the Galaxy S IV to select executive and partners at CES next week. It’ll happen behind closed doors.

Considering the amount of caution Samsung went to protect the design and features of the Galaxy S III, it’s possible that the above pic is an early prototype. Samsung made several variations and employees led a “double life” to protect to final GS III product. Everything with unfold itself over the next few months.

That's just an early rumour. I'd take it with a grain of salt. But you can still have cases that grip on top and bottom like my Nexus.

Insidious 01-07-2013 11:12 PM

might consider switching to s4 instead of iphone 5

ShadowBun 01-07-2013 11:43 PM

^ or maybe the iphone 6 no?

Got my S3 in august 2012, hoping that it'll last me 3 years.

S6?? :nyan:

Razor Ramon HG 01-08-2013 06:14 AM

I don't like how the screen is edge to edge.

Psykopathik 01-08-2013 07:12 AM

its a photograph of a picture. not even a mock up of a phone.

FerrariEnzo 01-08-2013 09:27 AM

I the thing I really want to see or have on my phone is the screen going edge to edge from the top-bottom and side-side.

having buttons on the phone is soooo old school.. haha everyone is going to do this.. EVEN apple... lol they copy a lot things and then say they are going to make it better.. keke

^^ however without a bezel around the phone the screen will be subject to many false/accidental button presses by fingertips and palms on the sides

Touch Interface Developments From Synaptics : CES 2013: Day 1 Highlights

Quote:

We were then shown a prototype solution for an issue that may become problematic in the future: large tablets with ultra-slim bezels. In this scenario, the user has nowhere to put their finger or thumb to hold the tablet without interfering with the touchscreen operation. With current tablets, for example, if the thumb used to hold the screen, is accidentally touching the active part of the screen, an intended finger swipe could be misinterpreted as a double-finger pinch gesture. The potential solution Synaptics is working on involves the use of two imaging sensors on back of the tablet. These sensors detect when the user is gripping the device. So, when user puts a thumb down to clamp the front of the screen, the driver recognizes it as grip event and excludes it from registering as part of a gesture. In addition, the prototype can avoid displaying data behind the gripping thumb by adjusting text margins to keep information viewable. The company envisions a future where bezel-free tablets can be arranged side-by-side to create larger displays and even accept pan-device gesturing. And that sounds like a future we can dig.

Samsung's got some good stuff comin down the pipeline. Obviously any company that produces any sort of product is producing the successors at different stages in each products development. Like when one is past concept another concept begins while the other continues its next step. From what Samsung's been saying about releasing the flexible screen early it could be that the S4 screen was ment for S5 or higher. But due to rapid advances in technology and their lawsuits with Apple. Their hand was forced to show off new innovations early which has basically threw a monkey wrench into the pile.

The first time I saw a 3D screen on a phone that did not require 3D glasses was back in 2005 at CES as a prototype concept. When did we actually get the glasses free 3D screens 2011. So you can only imagine the kinds of stuff that is coming out.

We live in a ' go big or go home ' society. So the natural progression for smartphones is bigger and better screens. Just like TV's you won't see them get any smaller only larger and more advanced.

A simple analogy would be. Do you need a bigger dick? Not necessarily but you can bet 99% of anyone that has a dick would love to have a bigger dick. You can easily replace dick with tits for girls because its pretty much the same analogy. Only big tits are more noticeable unless you're rockin a geoduck in your pants.

I have a feeling the Exynos 5 Octacore with 1080p screen rumors are gonna pan out
I agree the lawsuit most likely have fueled the fire more

pretty happy for best buy warrenty atm... my s3 might just get a sticky button and need an upgrade in april :fuckyea:

screen does not need to be any bigger, its already hard to use a s3 with one hand! faster/smoother performance would be great tho! and hopefully battery life!

LoL... They might want to be careful.. It's square and it makes phone calls so Apple might sue.

JayEch 01-31-2013 02:43 PM

At 5" is it a phablet or a phone? These android phones are getting way to bloody big IMO. It's the same size as the first note.

5" is a phone. The companies aren't exactly pushing 5" even though they are all releasing a 5" phone. They are actually pushing for 1080p resolution. HTC is the first one to have 1080p under 5" but then it is their second phone with 1080p. HTC first 1080p display is the HTC Butterfly.

The 1st gen note is actually 5.3" the current 2nd gen is 5.5"
