This may be a dumb question but whats the point of these systems? I know the 360's stupid DVD drive holds it back a bit but from what I'm understanding most games aren't even taking the full capabilities of the PS3 yet.

Games are well well beyond the point of "taking the full capabilities" of the PS3. The current consoles are holding games back like crazy.

^ I'm just glad they're continuing to push the limits of the systems right now. I know I'll probably wait a few years before getting the next console; I always give it time for dev teams to make the best they can with new hardware.

my 80gb has been full a couple of times where i need to delete games/demos.
installing DC universe required 40gb of free space :lawl:

I'd say majority of the games haven't taped out PS3's capabilities yet...a few of the ps exclusives have

the fact that ps3 was based on the Cell processor made it difficult for developers to code for it though which is why many don't bother to push its hardware

In general all console hardware is holding back software developement because they seriously lack of ram/vram.

Well I just hope that we truly get NEXT GEN games with these new systems, as in true 1080p @ 60fps MINIMUM.
Some of these game developers are still making games using the same engines from PS2 and Xbox era, I would assume that with the power of the PS4 and Xbox720 that won't be possible anymore and they will be forced to upgrade and build new engines to make games with, whether they be physics, graphics, whatever.....

I don't know about other games but I've only ever been playing sports titles and Forza/GT throughout the years... So one of the many examples would be this here, look at a shoe in NBA 2K13 and tell me it doesn't look like a pixelfest from a Playstation 2 game... how this passes for a HD next gen game coming out in 2012 is beyond me... and this pic is from a PC version of the game, on consoles it looks even worse

TBH most games look better and perform better on the XBOX 360. Especially EA games (which means most sports games)

Next gen, we'll have to wait and see. Specs wise, the PS4 will be more powerful, but it looks like the new XBOX will have more features on top of gaming.

twitchyzero 02-01-2013 06:54 PM

i like how skinnypupp already renamed the title Official PS4 Thread when it's an announcement of an announcement without any concrete info.
remember how you gave me heck for saying the Steambox wasn't confirmed?
it'd be funny if they end up announcing PS Vita 2000 or something

one simply does not play 2K sports game for the graphic fidelity

SkinnyPupp 02-01-2013 07:05 PM

It's going to be the PS4 don't worry :)

In what way? Why do so many games still run at only 720p?

On a side note I wonder if Microsoft will actually put any effort into the internal design of the XBox this time round.

Play a game on PS3 then play it on a $500 PC.

XBOX rumored specs are out already, it is almost identical to the PS4 rumored specs. Slightly weaker GPU, but way more memory, and more auxiliary hardware for things like video encoding and kinect features.

Manic! 02-02-2013 11:06 PM

I guarantee the PS4 will be 4k video but I don't know if it will be disc or download based. But I would be really surprised if it is out by this Christmas. I'm guessing Christmas 2014.

Philly74 02-02-2013 11:22 PM

^ Its going to be this year before christmas.

G-spec 02-02-2013 11:23 PM

So what, we should be expecting games on the PS4 and Xbox 720 to look like today's cut scenes and pre rendered animations or whatever you call them ?

gameplay actually looking something like this ?

b0unce. [?] 02-02-2013 11:29 PM

ps3 @ launch had shit games, most people waited till some bigger titles released.

SoNaRWaVe 02-03-2013 01:31 AM

i'm more interested to see if this new system will actually be backward compatible. it would suck to not be able to play my ps3 games.

Jegz 02-03-2013 01:36 AM

Damn PS4 already feels like i just had my ps3 for a year. Wishing for some crazy innovative features.

Renxo 02-03-2013 01:36 AM

My game backlog for PC and PS3 is so huge I'll be busy til PS5...

If the rumoured specs are any indication then it's very unlikely to support PS3 BC...which requires the Cell processor

not a big deal..ps3 will be cheap by then and upscaling won't be an issue

GLOW 02-03-2013 11:14 AM

i would be disappointed if they stopped making games for the ps3 though like they did ps2. but since there's a lot of ps3 users and the PSN store, i would think they'd still release content for ps3 users.

So you buy a 4k PS4 and play it on your 1080P TV? because there is no way they are going to have anything close to a reasonable priced 4k TV by Christmas.

That's because most EA games are developed on xbox then "dumbed down" for the PS3 version.

I'm hoping it's a 2014 release myself but the chances of it coming out in 2013 are good if Microsoft is also doing a holiday release.

I'm curious how many had 1080p sets in 2005 and 2006? It's irrelevant because I don't think Full HD games came out until 2008...everything else and 95%+ of the games today were/is upscaled.

:okay:

this might be a stupid question, but what do you mean by "upscaling won't be an issue"? i know what upscaling is, but not sure what you're referring to in this. my line of thought is, upscaling a ps3 game, but since it won't be able to play on the ps4, it can't be upscaled  ?
