that told us nothing! :rukidding:

FerrariEnzo 01-31-2013 02:55 PM

is this a last ditch effort so they can sell more units before gearing up for PS4?

Hmmm, how much are you willing to pay for a PS4? I'll wait 5 years and get the updated version.

freakshow 01-31-2013 04:04 PM

FF7 remake would bring me untold amounts of joy

i'm with you. bought all my PS consoles after like a 50% price drop from release price

:lawl: at 3DO i knew a guy who's little brother got one

yogenfruz 01-31-2013 05:30 PM

I think IF the PS4 gets released around the same time as the next Microsoft console, they'll have to have a more comparable price. Paying an extra 200$ for a system that had very few games back when the PS3 came out was difficult compared to the Xbox360's release.

That being said, though, I'm still curious to see what it's about. As long as it's not another gimmick the like Move.

I bought my PS3 just last year actually (5 or 6 years after it launched). I'm thinking it will last me until the PS4 goes cheap. :fullofwin:

I bought the ps3 @ launch and Id be willing to spend $1000+ for a Ps4

Granted it would have to be worth it (spec/features and launch titles)

wasn't the ps3 @ launch sold at a loss?

edit: isnt that price for neo geo inaccurate? iirc it was $1000 at least here in canada

and the adjusted for inflation prices is more accurate

edit
If Sony is going to futureproof the PS4 like they did with the PS3 (blu-ray, 3D capable, 10yr life cycle)
Then the PS4 will probably be 4K capable even 4K gaming capable, which means intense specs and so intense price even if sold at a loss that's why I think it'll be closer to that $1000 price point

Matlock 01-31-2013 07:51 PM

I actually got my PS1 and PS2 at launch. I was spoiled and got them as gifts from my dad. Now that I'm old and have to buy my own stuff, I'm a cheap bastard. I just bought myself a PS3 last year and will probably wait a while to get the PS4.

I remember getting a PS1 when no one had any idea what it was. It was difficult, trying to explain to my friends in elementary school that it was like nintendo, but uses CDs.

StylinRed 01-31-2013 08:49 PM

i guess no one had a sega cd ;)

twitchyzero 01-31-2013 08:51 PM

paid $600 for my PS3...I doubt I'll be paying more than $200 this time around...which probably means waiting for the slim in 2017 :lol

terkan 01-31-2013 09:01 PM

i still have my original 60gb made in japan ps3 from launch with the card readers and all the extra usb ports. still working fine like a beast so i'm not complaining. works out to less than $100 a year? not too bad of a investment considered there's easily over 1000+ hrs of play $ system + $ game works out to what? less than $1 per hour of played?

SkinnyPupp 01-31-2013 09:27 PM

The gaming industry has changed a lot since the PS3 came out. And even then, it was stupid of them to charge so much (which is why they lowered the price pretty damn quick)

I'd expect the next one to be available at $300-350, maybe with a more expensive one available to the fanboys with more money than sense ;)

The hardware will be much simpler - the PS3 was way more complicated than it ever needed to be.

Sony made so many mistakes with this console generation, it's amazing they were able to survive (although they barely did)

As long as they don't do what Microsoft did and sell it as 4GB for 250$, 250GB for 350$ or something, that'd be fine with me.

I liked how the PS3's started with around 40-80GB, more than enough if you just use it for games/movies. I'll never fill a 250GB Xbox -_-.

it's believed (at first i thought it was just me) that Sony will include 4K support and if they're going to support 4K gaming and not just video than they're going to need some serious hardware to be supporting gaming at 3840 x 2160 or 4096 x 2160 resolutions then i can't see it being that low in price although that'd be awesome

twitchyzero 01-31-2013 10:22 PM

no way it'll support native 4K gaming...probably just 4k blu-ray support
at best it'll be 1080p@60fps for games....they'll be stupid for trying to sell this at over $500

SkinnyPupp 01-31-2013 10:29 PM

PS4 could easily support 4K by upscaling the games. That is exactly what the current one does anyway. It is considered an "HD console" even though next to no games are actually HD. They are scaled up from lower resolutions like 720p (usually even lower)

Since that was easy to put over people, it should be just as easy to upscale 1080p to 4K or whatver...

my taiwanese uncle works in china now & im getting all my taiwanese red pocket money that i have not picked up in the past 7 year (i hope its enough for a new ps4)

Hehe 02-01-2013 01:00 AM

It's pretty impressive for Sony to keep it so tight.

I remember before PS3 launch, there were many leaks on design already.

It's now less than a month away, and we have nothing.

i guess :/

id be willing to pay $1k for native 4k gaming :D

but if it's going to be upscaled (which is probably what it'll be) i would only shell out $400ish i guess :okay:

hopefully they surprise :D
