So pretty much like PS3 then, that's still not nearly as bad as Microsofts new policies.

No it's not "pretty much" like PS3. Or it is. We don't know. It's possible that since Sony isn't doing the integrated used game blocking Microsoft is doing that they will employ it themselves... we have seen 'online passes' being sold before, but they could just as easily make it a "used game pass" and add a fee to every used game sold just like on the Xbox One. Sony said that all you have to do is give your game to your friend.. well that is with THEIR games. Now they are saying publishers can set their own policies...

MS made it easier for publishers to set policies, while Sony is basically allowing them to do the same while keeping their hands clean for the vocal internet people.

And BTW if this happens, instead of relying on a huge network run by the biggest company in the world, you are relying on publisher servers who seem to be dropping like flies lately.. The funny thing I have been noticing about the reaction to microsoft's DRM is "what if my internet goes down". Yeah how often does that happen? And when it does, you just happen to need to play a game within the next day? What you SHOULD be worries about is THEIR internet going down. Like if Valve ever decides to pull the plug on Steam, and your entire library disappears... That is the shit you should be worried about, not your own little world of not being able to play games for a few hours because your Shaw connection fucked up over night.

Amyway, we just don't know anything for sure yet, so I wouldn't assume either way. The only thing I do know is that publishers are greedy cunts

StylinRed 06-11-2013 12:55 PM

didnt get my pre-order to futureshop/bestbuy until just now hopefully my preorder wont be delayed

also preordered on amazon and ebgames

not for resale mind you, im giving each of my nephews and god son one

MarkyMark 06-11-2013 01:04 PM

It seems like Microsoft went above and beyond what they had to do to satisfy publishers. Online checks every hour when you play your profile at a friends house is a bit much, as if the 24 hour checks at home wasn't bad enough. If you install a game on your system right from the online store why can't you play it if your Internet connection goes to shit or you take it up to your cabin for the weekend? Microsoft made it seem like it was all in the hands of the publishers as well, yet designed this online check bullshit themselves.

It's true we don't know the full extent of Sony's DRM crap but I'm willing to bet it's not quite as far as MS went about it.

I am still using my 20gb PS3 that I bought when it launched. I did upgrade the hard drive a couple years back though, not because it failed but only because it was fucking tiny.

Sorry to derail a PS4 thread
but the 24 hour online authentication is checked by the publishers and not by MS itself?

Steam isn't going away. I'm worried my handful of game on Ubisoft's DRM client may slip away.

last gen was an anomaly...machines were unreliable yet the early adopters seems to got more hardware features...but less software features (in-game XMB, trophies etc)

StylinRed 06-11-2013 09:02 PM

my fat 60gb's are still up and running bought one for my friend too back then but his ylod

DIMENSIONS (its smaller than the slim!)

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1...sonforsize.jpg

the Xbox One has an external power supply and the Kinect to take up space as well whereas the PS4s psu is built-in

for those who want some high res shots of the PS4 and havent found them yet here they are click for huge (6### x ####)

I hope that Sony no longer requires the system to be on for the controllers to be charged like the PS3.

MGS5. Holy fucking shit that looks nice.

SpeedStars 06-12-2013 12:04 AM

I really hope this PS4 lasts as long as the PS3. Had my PS3 since 2008 and it's been good to me since.

Retrac 06-12-2013 12:12 AM

^Holy shit, now I have to pick up a PS4. MGS5 is reason enough! There wasn't a release date though.

Verdasco 06-12-2013 12:50 AM

still have my ps3 from the 1st day it was sold... i remember we paid a hobo to wait in line for it hahah.... ZERO problems, absolutely zero and we used it numerous times for DVD / blue ray

From what I can tell, the 24 check is handled by MS, and the publishers just rely on that to be valid.

.Renn.Sport 06-12-2013 01:41 AM

if it had backward compatibility, I would buy one at launch and play GT6 with it LOL

StylinRed 06-12-2013 02:55 AM

Yeah I wish those multiple sku rumours were true and that one sku would be BC :/

SkinnyPupp 06-12-2013 03:26 AM

If backwards compatibility ever happens, it'll be through Gaikai. Unfortunately that doesn't appear to be happening until some time next year, and even then who knows what the service will be.

It works theoretically, but who knows... They would need several farms of original PS3 hardware to run all the old games :lawl:

.Renn.Sport 06-12-2013 04:21 AM

I hope that we can just load up our PS3 games into the PS4 to get authentication and play the game via Gaikai. But I doubt that would happen, they are most likely gonna sell you the PS3 games individually if you wanna play it on the PS4.
