IMO the cloud computing part of XBone makes sense for data provision.

For example, let's say there's GTA6 and you have this gigantic map of a city. With cloud computing, it's possible to add/remove things on the fly.

Thus, it's possible to update maps to current events/conditions.

But forget anything realtime. You need to have a ping below 30ms and probably a GigE connection to make any realtime processing remotely feasible/functional. There's just too many data (assuming 1080P@60FPS) to be processed/transferred.

Which would make things interesting--imagine GTA Live events: cops v rioters. That would be incredibly fun.

It sounded too good to be true in the first place. They made this DRM policy to stop people from buying used games, but then made a family sharing plan where if you had the right 10 people on your list, it could potentially let you play hundreds of games for free. Yeah right.

Nobody van make a game that EVERYONE will play for weeks. Sometimes people play a couple times and don't get into it. I have gotten into the hype of a lot of games, only to be disappointed by them. I bought both Assassins Creed I and II and didn't like either of them.

Since I bought them on steam, I won't be selling them used. But also since I bought them on steam, I only paid around $5 for each of them during sales.

Big Brother alert: Cameras in the cable box to monitor TV viewers - Washington Times

Ill just leave this here..........

Privacy issues aside, I’m interested to see where Microsoft takes this console now. It seems like everything that made it different, everything they hyped up with the always on and how it was integral to the function and future of the box, has now basically been taken away.

I’m still holding off, and Ill see what happens down the road.

so there's a setting to turn Kinect 2.0 off
I'm assuming you can just NOT plug it in? Or will the console not even turn on if you don't have it enabled?

There will be a setting built into the One that allows you to turn the camera off completely. Certain countries like Germany have a Vampire Law that requires machines to be turned OFF off, not just a standby-waiting-for-commands off.

Kinect HAS to be plugged in for the console to work, apparently its part of the architecture of the system.

From all the reports I have seen, you can turn off the camera, but even in its “off” state, the microphone is still listening for “Xbox on” so it turns on, which presumably means its listening to everything else as well. They have also said that if you do turn the video portion of the Kinect off, some functions will be unavailable. They haven’t elaborated on whether that’s the obvious video chat and such, or if some of the TV functions etc. mandate the camera be on.

I could be wrong, but that’s what I understood from everything I have seen.

Xbox has said that this feature can be turned off in the system menu if you like. You would then have to turn on your console with your controller, once the system is on the kinect will be on as well. But when the system is off the kinect will not be "listening" for voice commands.

Xbox Wire

Quote:
You are in control of what Kinect can see and hear: By design, you will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded.

You are in control of when Kinect sensing is On, Off or Paused: If you don’t want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say “Xbox Off.” When the system is off, it’s only listening for the single voice command -- “Xbox On,” and you can even turn that feature off too. Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you’ll need to turn it back on for these experiences.

Thanks for the link and the read

Day one when this comes out, I am sure someone will do some testing to see what’s actually being sent back to Microsoft, or at least how much.

Will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

XBOX One: Kinect a "monitoring device" under German Law

Looks like Microsoft has some convincing to do with the Austrian and German governments before the XBone is allowed to be sold in those two countries.

OK maybe not third but definitely second.. I'd have to go through and look

IIRC you were the one who posted the thing about Xbox One demos being run on PC, as if that was a bad thing... even the smarmy tweet by the Sony exec who said all Sony Published Titles are running on PS4 dev kits, as if that means ANYTHING about ANYTHING other than First Party PS4 games are perhaps further along than 3rd party PS4 and XB1 games

You know how much I hate it when people add to hysteria, and ignorant misinformation like that (E3 demos running on PC being a bad thing somehow) just infuriates me...

Again, I know your intent isn't malicious - you might just not know better. But at the same time, you are spreading misinformation, so other people who likewise don't know any better buy into the BS.

I know, like I said I don't think it's your intention to purposefully spread bad shit.. but that's what you're doing anyway, seemingly over and over...

At least you weren't the person who posted the shit about Xbox One users losing their games when getting banned... or the idiot who failed me when I posted the video of a MS employee specifically debunking it

I wonder how long will it take until there are people making a bootloader for PC to run xbox one or PS4 games directly. Since the hardware and codes are basically a PC now.

Probably possible. But AFAIK, their OS and BOOT-ROM are copyrighted. Any attempt to dump it and make it work without consent is against the law and it's not exactly profitable.

Also, console games are usually highly optimized, I'm not sure one'd get a better experience than playing on the console itself.

it's suspected/hoped that more games will be ported to the PC anyways because of the architecture, Verge has an article discussing just that

I'm pretty sure if they could do it, they would be pirating the games as well. I can see that next gen could possibly be pirated and run off a higher end PC rather than on the console itself.

Seeing that Xbox One demo games are running off a HP Desktop at E3, its entirely possible. PS4 on the other hand might be more specialised.

i sure hope so...emulating a console within the current gen would be pretty awesome...I dont mind buying the games if your computer's blu-ray drive can read that xbox-one/ps4 game disc.
