Here's an analogy that I think of when I see the Canucks and the current coach. You have a good chef, albeit with anger management issues, in Gordon Ramsay. -has a good kitchen stocked up with good ingredients and good equipment. The problem is that you have subpar staff that are cooking a shitstorm of undercooked food that people would not eat.

Coach Torts, with his own history of anger management issues, is implementing his own systems with a talented core of players like the Sedins, Kesler, Luongo (good ingredients). However, you have a general manager in Gillis who gives you subpar wingers (the lousy kitchen staff) who cannot produce clutch goals and create sustained offensive pressure in the opposing team's zone.

What is the result? Low goal production from a team that cannot generate high quality scoring chances on a consistent basis.

This is Gillis' fault. He thinks that Booth, Kassian, Higgins, Burrows, etc, can provide the offensive depth needed for this team to win.

The truth is that MG has not added one significant offensive player as a top 6 forward for this season.

Hopefully, Torts can work his coaching magic fast to get Kassian, Booth, and Burrows going. Otherwise, it's up to Gillis, or perhaps a new general manager, to do a proper "reset" of this team.

I envy teams like Washington that can score goals at will against other teams. Their captain Ovechkin steps up his game to score two goals to help his team mount a comeback. Their GM builds a team with a luxury of offensive skill. Although they played a weaksauce team in Calgary, Washington won the game because they have a clutch captain who puts the team on his back and scores goals. -nice to have a team with snipers and offensive D-men like Backstrom, Mike Green, and Grabovski.

Gillis, wake up! :swear::facepalm:

Pretty quick change of tunes in 2 games ;)

I think the current cupboard is fine, we have to give these secondary guys a chance to step up. We weren't in a position to fill a top 6 forward this offseason anyways, we had no cap space to do that, and we had a much greater need at center on the 3rd line. The kids that were sent down are maybe ready for a 3 or 4th line role, but that's not the kind of development they need right now either so they were sent down, I have absolutely no problem with that.

regarding Ovi, he's been on fire so far this year, but last couple of years have been a pretty rough ride for him. He finished off last year strong, but prior to that, most were willing to kick his ass back to the KHL. So for a couple years, he wasn't the "clutch captain that put the team on his back", nowhere close to that at all.

Torts is correct. The CBC people do not know what they are talking about.

Do those idiots forget that this Stanley cup winning coach did coach on a skilled team in Tampa? Vinny, St. Louis, Brad Richards, and Dan Boyle killed teams with their offence.
Anybody remember those players blocking many shots with Tampa? I only remember the goals.

This coach can certainly improve our offence. 44 shots in a game. Over 20 shots in the first period. The guys were relentless on the forecheck.

When was the last time our Canucks had so many shots in a game?

Glenn Healy, shut up! All right, there you go!!

The Canucks offense didn't seem to have problems today. But do keep in mind a number of the goals were weird ones, ones where they capitalized off good bounces, yes these are all part of the game but you can't count on them. They were forechecking a lot harder and puck possession was huge. The Sedins were able to have their way. But this is also against a hurting Edmonton team that STILL doesn't have a defense, and their forwards STILL haven't really commited to a team defense mentality. So remember to keep things in perspective. Against San Jose, although the 60 minute effort wasn't there, I don't think it was for lack of trying. When the other team plays you hard and well, its a lot harder to forecheck play your own systems

#Canucks have scored 1 goal for Eddie Lack in his last 2 starts (5-0 at SJS in preseason). He's doing his part. Needs some help
Everyone looks a little slow today, probably a product of the double header and quick travel time. Hopefully they can find a little energy for the third.
