SkinnyPupp 10-03-2013 08:21 PM

oot and aboot

The stereotype is true, at least east of the Rockies

murd0c 10-03-2013 08:24 PM

Is it bad I'm more excited about the after the game presser then the game its self?

Hondaracer 10-03-2013 08:26 PM

watching the game relatively closely i cant say the Canucks look all that different from last year

whether that be due to not fully adapting to the new system or the lack of personnel changes cant say i'm too big allbeit it's game 1

spideyv2 10-03-2013 08:31 PM

besides the shot blocking, looks identical to last season

edit - Higgins needs to be a mainstay on the 3rd line, it's just too bad no one else can slot up to the 2nd line

604778 10-03-2013 08:32 PM

higgins... wtf...

EmperorIS 10-03-2013 08:33 PM

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hondaracer 10-03-2013 08:34 PM

its the same hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, goal against, game over

SJ is a very good team though and at this point probably a better overall team than the Nucks for the first time in a long time

dL 10-03-2013 08:34 PM

Game over. It's October.

I honestly thought they were a better team than the Nucks last season, even before the playoffs started

EmperorIS 10-03-2013 08:35 PM

Luongo deserves a better team

murd0c 10-03-2013 08:35 PM

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2013 08:36 PM

Same ol' Canucks, getting owned by the Sharks

EmperorIS 10-03-2013 08:36 PM

So the Canucks lost to Sharks 5 in a row now.... well 7 if you count preseason

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2013 08:37 PM

Every opposing team's strategy

1) Shut down the Sedins
2) Win

MarkyMark 10-03-2013 08:37 PM

Wait till next year!

what was "up his sleeve" was a soft fucking techno remix, i was at the game that it changed and it was absolutely pathetic

I've always hated DJ Dave. I wish we would start playing those classic hockey tunes at games like so many of the American Teams play at the arena between faceoffs etc. I feel like I'm listening to 94.5 when I'm at the game.

Here's an analogy that I think of when I see the Canucks and the current coach. You have a good chef, albeit with anger management issues, in Gordon Ramsay. -has a good kitchen stocked up with good ingredients and good equipment. The problem is that you have subpar staff that are cooking a shitstorm of undercooked food that people would not eat.

Coach Torts, with his own history of anger management issues, is implementing his own systems with a talented core of players like the Sedins, Kesler, Luongo (good ingredients). However, you have a general manager in Gillis who gives you subpar wingers (the lousy kitchen staff) who cannot produce clutch goals and create sustained offensive pressure in the opposing team's zone.

What is the result? Low goal production from a team that cannot generate high quality scoring chances on a consistent basis.

This is Gillis' fault. He thinks that Booth, Kassian, Higgins, Burrows, etc, can provide the offensive depth needed for this team to win.

The truth is that MG has not added one significant offensive player as a top 6 forward for this season.

Hopefully, Torts can work his coaching magic fast to get Kassian, Booth, and Burrows going. Otherwise, it's up to Gillis, or perhaps a new general manager, to do a proper "reset" of this team.

I envy teams like Washington that can score goals at will against other teams. Their captain Ovechkin steps up his game to score two goals to help his team mount a comeback. Their GM builds a team with a luxury of offensive skill. Although they played a weaksauce team in Calgary, Washington won the game because they have a clutch captain who puts the team on his back and scores goals. -nice to have a team with snipers and offensive D-men like Backstrom, Mike Green, and Grabovski.

Gillis, wake up! :swear::facepalm:
