Why do I feel like we're heading down the same path of Calgary, Edmonton & Ottawa after they all lost in 04, 06 & 07...

Too loyal to our star players and holding on to them until their value is no longer worth anything. We can't trade the Sedins' because they rather retire and go play in Sweden, unless they are srs about winning a cup. By winning a cup i think it will put the twins GOAT top 5 Swed's.

1) Lidstrom
2) Forsberg
3) Zetterberg
4) Daniel & Henrik
5) Mats Sundin - Yes, he was a Vancouver Canucks :fuckthatshit:

Hondaracer 01-24-2014 10:11 AM

Sedins aren't Kane and Toews. They aren't players that can be perennial difference makers and the supporting cast is a revolving door so it's impossible for this team to maintain any sort of consistency

Ouch - what a burn to the Canucks! We'll be forever known as the team that made Prospal decide to retire instead.

We're like the guy whose wife divorced him and turned lesbian instead. :troll:

Thornton and Marleau resign with SJ, 3 years each

http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl...1762--nhl.html

Quote:

According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, Thornton will make $6.75 million a year and Marleau $6.66. Both were scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in July and will take slight pay cuts to stay with the Sharks.

Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports that Thornton wanted to wait for Marleau, who acted a his own agent, to agree to his own deal before signing one himself.
The signings lock up Marleau, Thornton, Brent Burns, Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic through at least the 2016-17 season, according to CapGeek. Next up on Wilson's list will be a new deal for defenseman Dan Boyle, who can become a UFA in the summer.
You can argue that if the Sharks fall short of a Stanley Cup again this spring Wilson might want to blow things up, but his job is to ice a contending team and that's what he's built in San Jose. Now, if they do fail, it's on the general manager's shoulders.

damn..so the thornton/marleau were had for cheaper than the sedins...and a 1 year less. Crazy.

Granted, they don't do that great in the playoffs.

They're also both a year older. Also talking a combined cap hit of $0.583M more, which is less than 1% of the salary cap next season.

If Daniel and Burrows could hit the damn net this year, both Sedins would be over a point per game easily.

subordinate 01-24-2014 05:16 PM

We should tell'em to stop passing it to Hammer.

They need to decide whether they're going to push hard to win or start their rebuild. They don't have the assets to retool the team, imo.

We'll turn into Calgary if we keep this up.

Expresso 01-24-2014 06:00 PM

Right now this is their push hard lol

68style 01-24-2014 06:16 PM

It's funny I didn't watch the Nashville game but I keep reading Hammer get brought up as being totally ineffective and I know I could watch the highlights (or lowlights) to possibly find out why... but it's just amusing to me to imagine how glorious the scoring opportunities he missed were :D

Hamhuis is a defensive defenseman. Putting him on the PP is about as effective as having Jordan Schroeder playing a power forward game.

68style 01-25-2014 08:10 AM

I'm still winning my "Andrew Ebbett will finish with more career points than Jordan Schroeder" bet from last year's thread that many of you guys called me crazy for :troll:

DanHibiki 01-25-2014 11:53 AM

Hamhuis is just saving it for the Olympics guys

Samuelsson isn't surprising considering that he's been an injury-prone, ineffective mess since we traded him (more injury-prone and less effective than Booth).

SOB is interesting. Burke usually likes players like SOB. Then again, SOB is well-known to be a bad influence.

pastarocket 01-25-2014 12:34 PM

Stamkos is taking light contract drills in practice. Hopefully, he will be 100% and be able to build some strength in that leg before the Olympics.

you guys see Kypreos on Sportsnet saying Horvat+ for Ladd lol what a clown. I think Ladd is a great player but it kinda pissed me off that he said Ladd is proven to get you 30 goals and 70 points which has happened 0 times and hes only been on pace for that one time in his career(last season) and currently on pace for 17 goals and 50 points .. you would think he would at least check the stats before talking lol god damn you get paid to do this shit.

Another reason why this clown needs to go

Dimitri Filipovic ‏@DimFilipovic

Manny Malhotra now has the same # of goals this season as David Booth. Ouch.

Im tired of the Canucks looking for 3rd line centers or a top 9 Winger. I can see why the canucks didnt do anything in the 2011 season cause they didnt wanna upset the chemistry the team had. Now the Canucks are on the downhill so imo its either go big or bust. We dont need a tweek here or there, we need to do something big. We need to do something like the Kings did in 2012 where they brought in Richards and then Carter at the deadline.

I hear Mike Green is on the market. NYR not looking for much for Callahan since they believe hes overpaid. If MG can somehow manage to get rid of Booth id love to see Callahan here.

In the end worst case scenario is that we bust and tank which is also a good thing. We can get a decent pick which paves the way for more shitty years and better picks come the future. MG philosophy to "stay competitive" isnt winning over Canuck fans. We are barely hanging onto a playoff spot now.

Can't do anything big when Gillis/Gilman gives half the team NTC's :rukidding:
