That's an insane amount of money. Seems kind of harsh to suspend him without pay for so long.

Looks like his kids aren't going to private school next year...

Because his remaining $1,850,000 salary cannot afford it??

I'm sure $150k is a huge ass sum for most of us here. But it's really not that much for someone with a $2mil salary.
It's not like he's going to struggle to pay his bills now cause he just lost $150k.

Jmac 01-20-2014 07:49 PM

Well, in that tax bracket, half of it is going to taxes. So it's still a sizeable chunk.

Not that I feel too bad for him. It will take most of us until well into our 50s to make $2M gross.

Everything is relative. His lifestyle probably matches his salary. He has his charity, his kids private schools, expenses, etc.

I get what you're saying though. This all could have been avoided if he just didn't go down that hallway. Definitely not the brightest move on his part.

Torts gonna Tort.

NBC still better than Sportsnet though, TSN is the best too bad they don't have broadcasting rights for much longer :okay:

Well at least both our assistant coaches have head coaching experience, the PP will still suck though :lol

Not sure what they mean by "team communication" but it would be great if it didn't mean Utica too, Torts could chill for two weeks there with some of the prospects and check up on their progress

Feels bad to see Torts pay a steep price for letting his emotions get the better of him, but the more this unfolds, the happier I am with the guy (even though his on-ice results aren't really better than his predecessor).

If anything, it's good to see these kind of emotions from your General, and I really hope this trickles down to the players; starting from the Captains right down to the Grunts.

Sometimes it's hard in the heat of the moment to control your emotions when you know that the douchebag standing behind the other bench is trying to bully your team. If it was AV facing this situation, maybe he just stands behind the bench and continue to chew that bubble gum. :lawl:

We're Canucks, we take no bullshit from thugs! Nobody pushes this team around! :gun:

 the suspension had NOTHING to do with the line brawl and everything to do with what happened in the intermission.

And I would fully expect the league has rules in place against such "gifts" anyway.

omg men, I lost 7.7% of my salary once

omg omg, how the fuk am I supposed to eat now?!?!?!

OMG

fliptuner 01-21-2014 04:13 AM

Brian Lawton on SN said Tort's will probably be allowed in the rink on practice days, meaning he'll only lose pay for the 6 game days.

I guess we'll see.....

Vansterdam 01-21-2014 06:05 AM

wonder if Torts could just buy a ticket and watch the 6 games sitting right behind the bench on the other side of the glass :lawl:

What gets me angry at the NHL is that there Bob Hartley did not receive some sort of a suspension for instigating the line brawl. A paltry $25,000 fine for a douche who sends out goons like McGratton on the first shift of the game? Talk about a bully tactic. Complete bullshit that he does not get a suspension.

^There isn't a rule that I'm aware of which dictates what line a coach must start or the characteristics of a player required for each line.

how would u describe torts in one word?

I'm actually not seeing any violation of the rules by either coach, but I did find this interesting. It's not highlighted, so I don't believe it's new, but I'm not aware of the league making use of this.

64.3 Fines and Suspensions - Regardless if a minor penalty for diving / embellishment is called, Hockey Operations will review game videos and assess fines to players who dive or embellish a fall or a reaction, or who feign injury. See also Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline. The call on the ice by the Referee is totally independent of supplementary discipline.
The first such incident during the season will result in a warning letter being sent to the player. The second such incident will result in a one thousand dollar ($1,000) fine. For a third such incident in the season, the player shall be suspended for one game, pending a telephone conversation with the Director of Hockey Operations. For subsequent violations in the same season, the player’s suspension shall double (i.e. first suspension – one game, second suspension – two games, third suspension – four games, etc.) See also Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline

Anyways, I'm sure there's a private code of conduct agreement that non-playing personnel must agree to and they were each punished under that.

Complete bullshit? Hartley got fined for instigating a line brawl. Did Hartley make an attempt to storm into the Canucks dressing room??

Some of you guys are forgetting the actual reason why Torts got suspended.

Ludepower 01-21-2014 05:20 PM

god dayum this topic is getting beat to death. It's another hockey fight big deal.
The suspension to Torts was him crossing the line into the dressing room and making a mockey of the sport and will forever be in top10 highlights for generations to come.
