Watched Linden on the news this AM. Basically said he does speak with the Aquilinis, hasn't about the position but if the opportunity came up he would strongly consider it. Steve Darling asked if he thought he had the skillset to be GM and TL said he always thought he'd be a good coach.. :considered:

murd0c 04-08-2014 08:02 AM

and Gillis is going to be GM still or is he going to can him right away....

So Aquilini is threatening to sue the media now? hahaha

Quote:

The Aquilinis have sent legal letters to two local media members, requesting a retraction and apology for suggesting ownership had a significant role in hiring John Tortorella. (for disclosure sake, I’m not one of them)

A libel notice must be sent within six weeks of an alleged libellous statement, and is the first step if you want to sue a publisher for libel.

In writing, you need to let the author know you believe you have been libelled.

In this particular case, the Aquilinis claim the reports, one of which says Tortorella was hired by consensus, were erroneous and Tortorella was their general manager’s choice, and one which they backed.

They also claim that by writing they had a prominent role in the hiring it was designed to “incite ridicule for making bad or embarrassing judgments.”

Neither writer or publication, as of this date, are planning a retraction or apology and both stand by their stories.

I would think this would be an extremely difficult case for the Canucks’ owners to win because, well, they are the owners and they write Tortorella’s cheques, so at some point, legally they hired the coach.

Reports the Aquilinis were “heavily involved” in the hiring process date back to before Tortorella got the job in late June. Those who wrote about the Aquilinis involvement did not start hearing from the owners until the season spun out into a disaster.

It’s been widely acknowledged that the Aquilinis were even present during the actual interviews between management and Tortorella, and that’s something the coach recently discussed.

The undercurrent of the Aquilinis argument strikes me as amazing.

The idea being whomever hired Tortorella is open to ridicule for making bad or embarrassing judgments is quite the claim by the organization.

What does that say about the coach?

I would love to see this one go to court.

the more I here about Aquilini's actions I'm really starting to hate this guy... I love my Canucks but honestly want them to bomb so he loses money and sell the team because I don't want this douche to get anything out of the fans/city.

Aquilini and his threat to sue the media:

And Trevor Linden should stay the fuck away from any sort of paid role on the Canucks. His reputation would have nowhere to go but down!

Yea instead of getting a soft swede in Naslund hire on a cycling hipster in Linden

Aquaman is a sleazebag boss in his other lines of business. I'm thinking many of his own staff hate him. This dude cannot even hire the right people to run his blueberry farms properly. How the heck does he think he knows how to run an NHL team? Aquilini, GTFO out of the NHL!

If what the media is reporting about Aquilini being heavily involved in the coach hiring process and player personnel decisions is true, this owner is not just the money man. He is the man running this team with MG being his puppet.

It doesn't matter how much money a team has, when the owner, who doesn't have a clue about how to build a championship contender, is the guy who is influencing hockey related decisions. Where is the GM's freedom to do his job properly?

That being said, MG is responsible for botching up the Schneider and Luongo trades, picking up garbage players like Booth, and failing to address team issues like a top 6 forward for scoring depth.

Does Aquilini have a hand in influencing player personnel decisions and coach hiring? If Aquaman is running this team, then this team's "dark ages" just went even darker.

Aquaman needs to keep his hands off on hockey related matters and let the GM do his job.

Micro managing bosses are one of the worst people that you can encounter in life. Trust me, I worked with one of these scumbags briefly before I resigned from the company.

Linden should run away from a job offer if he doesn't want to be just another Aquilini puppet if Aquaman calls him.
