Coincidentally, I also wrote about a bakery this week...but one that makes only donuts.

Not so coincidentally, I wanted to try writing in that "RAMBLE ABOUT ALL THE THINGS" style and see if it's fun. :lol It is!

LOL sorry, could you clarify? North...and...South....so everything?

I said "directly" but specifically that would be from, say, in front of Richmond Centre (Cook Rd.) to just past Yaohan (Capstan Way).

It's a touristy terminology invented to draw people to the area when they come into town as a Chinatown... which is kinda redundant since all of Richmond pretty much is........... but historically speaking, when the invasion began in the mid 1980's #3 Road was where ALL the asian immigrants flocked too to start businesses and buy up development areas... Richmond was pretty segmented back then, all the white people lived west of #3 Road, all the asian people lived on #3 Road (the whole stretch) and all the East Indian people (there used to be a way higher concentration of E.I. in Richmond than there is now) lived east of #4 Road...

How'd you guys like my donutology?

I can see the appeal of writing this way. Less professional tone, more personal but I'm not particularly on point with it so I sound insane. :lol

It's not too bad, at least it's still food related rambling except for that one bit about the new Mac. I think you have to know your audience, if it's mostly your friends reading it, you can get away with rambling a bit but outsiders just wanting to know about the food might find it boring (like RS is to Lindsay's blogs so far)

I tried writing like that for my newest post, I can't do it. My mind does not work like that. Sorry.

What are your thoughts on spicy tuna from your typical Japanese restaurant?

Spoiler!

Ronin 06-14-2012 04:13 PM

"Spicy sauce" is a curse.

SkinnyPupp 06-14-2012 07:53 PM

Spicy sauce on sushi is about the stupidest thing I can imagine doing.. Some people like it, but to me it seems like such a waste.

If you want flavoured sushi, order negi (onion) tuna sushi.

Going to a sushi restaurant and saying spicy tuna was your favourite is like going to a western restaurant and saying you really liked the kids meal chicken fingers. :fulloffuck:

Graeme S 06-14-2012 07:54 PM

You will notice, however, how much we're talking about it.

Agree or not, I do believe that was kind of the point.

The point was to be humiliated on online forums every day? I doubt that :fuckthatshit:

Ronin 06-14-2012 08:46 PM

To me, spicy sauce just goes against the philosophy of Japanese cooking and sushi especially. I mean, what's the point of talking about the freshness of fish when you drown it with spicy sauce? Like the California roll, spicy sauce is something I've only really seen here in North America. Simple flavors...let the fish do the talking.

Real sushi chefs have the flavors down to a science...subtle differences in the rice texture/flavor, how much wasabi to put in, etc. You watch Jiro? Dude has like different pots of rice for different fish. Even temperature is controlled to maximize flavor.

Or you can fire hose everything with spicy sauce so that you don't taste anything but spicy sauce.

That's perfectly fine, though. I mean, who cares if something is authentic or whatever when you enjoy it, right? Hell, I know I won't find a Taco Luis in Mexico but I love that place anyways so people are totally within their right to enjoy spicy sauce. I just don't like it myself.

Jer3 06-14-2012 09:21 PM

i usually don't like spicy "insert seafood here" whatever rolls but the crispy hot tuna roll at ajisai is one of the exceptions. corn flakes, fresh sprouts along with their sauce makes it work :sweetjesus:

yray 06-14-2012 10:15 PM

Ichiro is pretty good, but they use shitty seaweed from my dad's company :lawl:

Today's blog on Nooch is good, didn't know it existed. I'm a fail Richmonder I know

sonick 06-15-2012 10:33 AM

nooch used to be where Pho Han is and also used to be a pho place. Weird how they changed so drastically.

Ronin 06-15-2012 11:00 AM

As far as I now, Nooch used to be a BBT place (Banana something) last?

I hear good things about it...want to try it but haven't gotten around to it.

Ronin 06-15-2012 11:33 AM

By the way, I've added a bit of a summary/loose rating system for restaurant posts, inspired by RS. No seriously...I saw how many posts just have a smiley in them and they basically say everything the poster wanted to say.

I realized that most posts are quite long (most are 1k+ words). I like being comprehensive but I realize some people are like TL;DR so this is for them.

I'll be updating old post with these as well. Opinions?
