I think it was FOODY GOODY. The only thing I remember about it was the ice cream :lol. Typical North American Chinese buffet place. Then it became DEALS and now there's a condo tower in its place

Ikkaku 06-08-2012 11:58 PM

is it where the condo is, or is it where cactus club is?

I think she should go to Kings Buffet.

Spectre_Cdn 06-09-2012 12:09 AM

It was where the condo is. This was maybe.. over 15 years ago? The cactus club has been there for quite a while too.

RFlush 06-09-2012 12:16 AM

The cactus Club ( or maybe Sammy J peppers cant remember as they are side by side) used to be the Gateway Computer store and before that was car dealership (I believe Mazda).

Ronin 06-09-2012 12:33 AM

Before that it was a totally wacked out dollar store.

StylinRed 06-09-2012 01:34 AM

foody goody! lol i remember going to that place as a kid for the ice cream

Ikkaku 06-09-2012 12:00 PM

I can barely remember what most of the places look like and I've been in richmond for over 25 years :lol

skyxx 06-11-2012 04:57 PM

Looks like she went to Tandoori Kona on her 3rd day which is actually quite a good pick. LOL

yray 06-11-2012 05:12 PM

Her posts are not doing good for both richmond or the eateries. All of her posts are I've been to this restaurant, ohh it's far away from the golden village, ohh I can get seafood here.

Bitch talk about the food, you don't go to a restaurant and order one dish.

Name another Indian restaurant in Richmond...BY NAME. Not that place by the place on that road. :lol

And not the ones in the food court.

And what's the Golden Village? I've lived in Richmond damned near 30 years and no one I know calls anywhere in Richmond "The Golden Village". Never heard that term used by anyone anywhere in Vancouver. Richmond isn't the size of New York. We don't need to call areas of our city Soho or Uptown or Dowisetrepla.

I googled it and there is even a Wikipedia entry...but seriously, never heard that before.

yray 06-11-2012 06:12 PM

^ because shes using wiki as a reference, older tourism boruchures uses them but not anymore

SkinnyPupp 06-11-2012 07:52 PM

I remember when Richmond's tourism board wanted to name the strip of restaurants on Alexandra road... did they ever come up with something? I remember "Little Hong Kong" being one of the names considered :fuckthatshit:

Actually, lots of "food bloggers" have referenced Golden Village due to Yelp, Urbanspoon and Chowhound users...plus it is still used in current Richmond and BC tourism websites. While it isn't an official district, I guess it's just a title for to help promote Richmond.

I'll be more interested in what she reviews once she's gone through the usual suspects. Will she skip smaller gems like Moutai? Only time will tell...

Chinese people in the city will name it naturally as the area ages. Otherwise, nothing will ever stick.

IS MOUTAI BACK!?! As far as I know, the "new" Moutai at Cambie and Garden City closed and then the imposter Moutai closed and is now a good Korean duck feast restaurant.

I'm sure plenty of food bloggers call it that but I've honestly never heard the term before and no one I know has ever called it that before either. I thought someone was going old school on me and referencing Golden Award and just remembering it wrong.

68style 06-11-2012 10:46 PM

Golden Village is anywhere on the 3 Road strip directly north and south of Ackroyd plaza...

hey ronin, you tried the korean duck feast restaurant before?
if so, is it good? (and is the place chinese-owned?)

Ronin 06-11-2012 11:46 PM

I enjoyed it. The food is good. Not mind-blowingly good but good. The chef is a super nice guy and you can tell how much he loves doing what he does. Plus it's a fun meal...having a family style meal like this where you eat with your hands and share stuff is a fun experience with friends or whoever.

And good value for money. You get a LOT of food for about $15 + tax/tip per person.
