I'd probably pay the valet for peace of mind.

It ain't going to be fun driving back home in this weather if some random dude breaks a window or tries to steal your catalytic converter.

Honestly, if you got time, which when u got a family and kids.. you most likely done... just follow where the valet parks and park there yourself... 90% of the time it's at a nearby lot a block down.

I'd rather stay in the suburbs of Portland. Nothing downtown worth the headache of getting your car damaged.
Hillsboro - world's second biggest Costco
Astoria - fantastic fish & chips @ bowpicker
1hr drive south - In N Out burger

MG1 02-28-2024 10:27 AM

Frick............ I was just in Portland last week. Second biggest Costco. Damn............ I was going to check out the food trucks, but had to leave. Portland is a bit on the scary side. Even for me.

So where's the biggest Costco? too lazy to look it up, hehe

I had the exact same thought lol. Salt Lake City apparently, maybe I'll check it out the next time I'm down there.

MG1 02-28-2024 10:58 AM

Mormons like to shop, too........... I guess.

winson604 02-28-2024 11:50 AM

If you're up for it another 3 hr drive from Portland for some nostalgia with the last Blockbuster remaining.

inv4zn 02-28-2024 04:37 PM

Haha at this time vicitlnity to the zoo and a kid friendly pool are the main requirements.

Maybe I'll rent a car... Lol

Badhobz 02-28-2024 04:58 PM

The zoo isn’t that close to downtown. It’s up where the rose garden is and the nicer part of town I think. Downtown is dangerous

MG1 02-28-2024 05:24 PM

Dangerous is an understatement. I’d switch plates to an Oregon plate, lol. BC Plates is like a new prisoner showing up in a maximum detention facility. Ass raped.

Just kidding. It’s not that bad.

it's right outside downtown, 8 minutes from center...kinda like Science World w/ DT proper, I guess.

Damn, y'all got my nervous, lol

Badhobz 02-29-2024 05:36 AM

I’ve been to that zoo (like 10 years ago) and it was fine. Because it’s up where that rose garden is at, and next to the big ole
Mansions overlooking downtown, it seemed pretty safe.

Canada requiring Mexicans to get travel VISA's ... apparently too many of them flying here and walking over to the US for refugee claimant.

Bumping an old thread.

I'm curious if any of you have recently gone into the US through a land crossing lately? If so, what was your experience like? I'm looking to do a weekend trip in to Buffalo, NY some time soon. Thanks in advance!

JDMDreams 04-12-2025 10:14 AM

Has anyone mailed anything to the states lately though Canada post? Is there more annoying shit or same as before?

mikemhg 04-12-2025 10:28 AM

@bcrdukes Yup last week.

A few more extra questions than usual, but totally fine.

bcrdukes 04-12-2025 11:20 AM

Thank you, sir!

I went through Detroit Crossing and Niagara Falls crossing last weekend. No issues. Almost no line. The way back into Canada was a very long wait though.

Went last week, no issues through with nexus on both sides via Blaine

One more question to ask you guys

Has anyone been hassled going over to grab some Trader Joe's or groceries and crossing back?

Thanks for asking that. One of my motivations is to do a Trader Joe's grocery run and pick up some track day parts which are far more cheaper in the US (even after exchange rates) and the local dealers can't figure out how to order what I want. :concentrate:

CERTIFIED SAFE

Black guy guarantee, all other ethnicities will be fine

mikemhg 04-12-2025 03:56 PM

I'm a bad example though, I look and sound like a cop, I've never had issues crossing :lol

A buddy of mine who's Indian (from Goa), has his Canadian citizenship, and an H1B visa, went down a few days ago and got pulled inside for further questioning, first time its ever happened to him.

So results may vary there :lol

bcrdukes 04-12-2025 03:56 PM

“mikemhg said it was fine :derp:” famous last words
