Consider switching over to 24/7 parcel in Blaine?

Kilinim 09-23-2022 09:51 AM

Shit, I use 5D too. They were awesome

SkunkWorks 09-23-2022 03:46 PM

Pretty sad to see 5d closing - I remember when Jamie posted on RS when they first opened up in 2014. I was the first person to send tires to them.

They've been hanging on throughout covid and were pretty damn generous holding onto peoples' packages without charge when the borders were closed.

Oh? What's so bad about PR Shell now? I was only in and out relatively quickly when I went in the summer, so I didn't notice anything particularly bad about their service, other than the coincidence that the Fuel Rewards stuff wasn't working that day. Care to tell us so that we can watch out for it too?

JDMDreams 09-23-2022 09:31 PM

I told them to put two packages back into the system as I wasn't bringing them back that day. Came back a few weeks later to get them. They lost both packages. :fulloffuck: said the guy that helped me originally will call me back, never got a call. Went back later and they lost the paper that we put notes on about calling me and tracking numbers and dates on. Again basically welp too bad so sad. I'm like how the fuck do you lose two packages with my info on it and original shipping boxes. A you threw it away? B someone stole both?

Traum 09-23-2022 09:46 PM

:fulloffuck: That's horrible! Sorry to hear that this happened to you.

Note to self: Either pick everything up in one go, or go every time even if there is only just a single package.

tiger_handheld 09-24-2022 11:42 AM

5d had great service.
will not go back to Hagens.

What is another option?

I had the same experiences.

I had good experiences with 24/7 parcel right by the police station, not too far from the old 5D location.

MG1 09-24-2022 02:40 PM

24/7 has been great. Place is owned by Canadians. Very friendly people.

I had a good amount of money on the tab when the pandemic hit. When the borders opened up, I went nuts and ordered all kinds of shit on-line. All shipped to 24/7 Parcel. A few weeks ago, I was not allowed to get my packages. It was during non-office hours. I was freaking a bit. Screen indicated not enough funds. I was like wtf? Sure enough, I had a buck and change left on the tab. Drove all the way to find out I couldn't get my package. I would have to stay till they opened. I went to their website and discovered, you can add funds at any time via credit card. I think they even accept Pay Pal (not 100% sure). So, I deposit 50 bucks and wham! It worked like a damn.

Sorry for the long story. I get into story time mode once in a while, tee hee.

Likewise recommend 24/7 Parcel. No annual fee, and the flexibility of being able to pick up at any given time is priceless.

I had tires shipped there a few times, for larger items like that they require you to come in during office hours.

sorry if im not in the loop at all with how this thread has been going, but now with the canadian gov removing all covid border protocols, does that mean crossing and getting packages is back to being as simple as it was pre-covid? haven't crossed the land border in years

JDMDreams 09-26-2022 08:20 AM

Yes after Oct 1

Be prepared for huge lineups. Lots of Canadians heading down for cheap gas. Even Nexus lines are long. Actually with Nexus, it's hit and miss. Download and use WSDOT's app to check up on border wait times. It's not always accurate, but it has saved me many a times. It used to have info on both north and southbound, but it's northbound only now. The app is also helpful when traveling in and around Washington State. Live traffic updates and camera views. Even Ferry info. Road work warnings, etc. Anyway...............

twitchyzero 09-26-2022 09:01 AM

why are the estimate wait signs along our highways still offline FeelsBadMan

MG1 09-26-2022 09:08 AM

WTF? No lineups, lol.

Last Monday, I was in a 25 minute lineup at 176th crossing. In the Nexus lane. Regular car lanes were at 45 minutes. I look over to the southbound lanes and it's clear. As in nobody. one, maybe two cars making its way to the booths.

Mind you, it is 10:10 am.

Why am I not crossing today like I do every freaking Monday? Exchange rate is like lowest it's been in two years. It keeps falling. I used to say, "what's a few cents here and there................" It's getting ridiculous. 72 and falling. I stocked up (whored) on TJ stuff. Good for another pandemic closure, hee hee, hue hue, pew pew.

JDMDreams 09-26-2022 10:13 AM

Besides getting gas I really don't see a point in going down at this exchange rate

MG1 09-26-2022 10:53 AM

Yup, and I already have three jerry cans full of premium. I drive the EV everywhere. No sense in getting anything down there, unless it’s something not available here in Canada……………….. like shit from TJ’s. You know what’s hilarious? A lot of TJ’s stuff is made in Canada. Like wtf?

Traum 09-26-2022 11:11 AM

Just did some quick checks and calculations. It seems to me that currently after exchange rates and everything, US gas prices are:

Blaine - Cdn $1.884/L
Bellingham - Cdn $1.633/L

What the flying fxxk??? How can Bellingham be 70¢ cheaper than our local prices???

whitev70r 09-26-2022 12:01 PM

It's called translink/road taxes.

Uhhhh.. "Lack of refineries", "supply and demand", or some other bullshit answer people in Vancouver will give you as to why we're a literal dollar more for gas here in Vancouver then that of Toronto.

Last night around 10:15PM, regular line was standstill all the way to the beginning of Nexus lane at Peace Arch. Oh and some idiot was blocking Nexus from Duty Free. Facepalm.

idk which stations you're checking but I've been down to B-ham and Bellevue maybe every single weekend of September. It is significantly more expensive than Blaine. The stations outside of Blaine have a cash discount attached to it.
